I'm not sure if I'm remembering this correctly, but did anyone hear something about children 12-18 being able to get vaccinated without parental consent? I have a cousin whose daughter will not allow her 12-year-old to get vaccinated, even though she really wants to be. According to her parents, she will never have any kids if she gets vaccinated.

Depends on the State. Where I live (Oregon) the age of medical consent is 15. My daughter drove some of her friends that were 15 (she was 16 or 17) to Planned Parenthood to get birth control without their parents' knowledge. It is a bit complicated cuz some States regulate what and what is not allowed for medical consent for a minor. Google the state and medical consent age.

8 critical care professionals for one patient.

Fetuses dying because their mothers have covid.

A woman fighting covid. She used to believe that covid was a hoax. Her husband is still suspicious and thinks her healthcare professionals might be lying.

Nurses walking out mid-shift.

"Acute Trauma".

COVID Patients Fighting for Their Lives Are Still Refusing the Vaccine
“Her heart rate’s failing.”

Doctors at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, a public medical school in Little Rock, donned N95 masks and gowns as a critical care team prepared a crash cart in the hallway.

The hospital’s ICU was over capacity with more COVID-19 patients than they’d had in any prior wave of the virus. Six doctors quickly filled the room where this patient was being treated, and two nurses waited on standby in case she was going to code.

“The patient’s oxygen saturation is dropping,” Carmen Eaken, a nurse who works with some of the most critical patients at UAMS Medical Center, told VICE News. “All these COVID patients are so sensitive to any change in the disruption of the ventilator that just a few seconds of activity can cause them to drop dangerously low.”
:snippity:

While this patient survived, a growing number are not.

When VICE News visited UAMS Medical Center, the hospital had 66 COVID-19 patients, more than their last peak of 63 COVID-19 patients, in January 2021. The ICU was over capacity and over 90 percent of the patients hospitalized with COVID-19 were unvaccinated.

Arkansas has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country with only 44.1 percent of the population 12 and up fully immunized, according to the Arkansas Department of Health. As a more contagious Delta variant becomes the predominant variant in Arkansas, the state is entering a new phase in the war against COVID-19.

“The second pandemic is a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” Dr. Meena told VICE News. “People were more rescuable in the first pandemic.”

Key differences with the Delta variant, Meena noted, are that 20 percent of patients hospitalized at UAMS Medical Center from COVID-19 are pregnant women and younger people have a higher mortality rate.

“So it's a whole lot more effective than the first virus was,” he added.

The median age of virus patients is also younger now, at 40, according to Dr. Cam Patterson, the Chancellor of UAMS, who called this wave a “completely different virus.”

“We've had many pregnant patients who have been admitted to the hospital with complications of COVID-19 sadly,” he said. “We've lost some babies from pregnant moms, so this has really shifted down. It's no longer a bad case of the flu.”

Despite the greater risks associated with contracting the Delta variant, many Arkansans still refuse to get vaccinated.

“I did not realize that the threat of death is inadequate to make people want to go have vaccines,” Dr. Meena said. The pulmonologist has attempted to convince patients and their families to get vaccinated, but he’s only succeeded about a fifth of the time. “There's a fair number of people who don't believe they have COVID and that we're lying to them,” he said.
:snippity:

“When you cannot breathe, you can't get air, it is very scary,” she said through labored breaths.

Sitting upright on the hospital gurney with high-flow oxygen rushing through a nasal tube, Chandler explained that she and her husband both thought COVID-19 was just a hoax. While Chandler’s husband is still skeptical about her diagnosis, Chandler now says she understands.

“I'm living something I didn't believe. I'm living it. And people need to know that it is real. It is real, people are dying. They are dying,”
pleaded Chandler, gripping the walkie-talkie in her hand.

While Dr. Meena had thought he broke through to Chandler, she’s still one of his many patients who refused to get vaccinated, despite being incredibly sick.

“She was going to advocate for vaccines when she left the hospital,” Dr. Meena said. “Over the last two days, she's gone back to her initial vaccine hesitancy.”

“I've read all the bad stuff on it and not read any of the good, ’cause I didn't believe it. So I have to change my thinking and study,” Chandler told VICE News. When asked if she’ll get the vaccine, Chandler responded, “Not at this time.”

When pressed about how the pandemic will end if more people don't get vaccinated, Chandler said, “I can't answer that.”

Lindsey Smith, who came into the hospital to give birth, didn’t get the vaccine either.

Smith tested positive for the virus, and though she's asymptomatic, she had to be separated from her newborn son, Mac. So instead of holding her newborn, she watches him in the NICU from a baby monitor app on her phone.

“He's supposed to be with me, you know. He's been with me the whole time, and now I can't even hold him,” Smith said. “So that's definitely hard. I haven't gotten to meet my son yet.”

As tears built up around Smith’s eyes, her husband leaned over to comfort her. But did being in the hospital, unable to be with her son made her regret not getting the vaccine?

“No, no,” she said. “Because even with getting the vaccine, you can still spread it. You can still get it. There simply aren't enough studies for it.”

Smith went on to cite debunked conspiracy theories to support her reasoning.

:snippity:

Doctors in the hospital aren’t only combating COVID-19. They're also fighting a surge of disinformation. Dr. Meena attributes his anti-vaccine patients’ views to the media they consume.

“I didn't think I would live through a time when vaccines would be so ridiculed,” he said.

Healthcare workers are exhausted and frustrated, with no end in sight. Some nurses at this hospital have even walked off in the middle of their shifts. Dr. Patterson told VICE News that he worries about what his staff witnesses on the front lines.

“You see people, young people, healthy people who are dying and they have babies, the babies are dying. You know, at some point that's not just burnout; it becomes acute mental trauma,” he said.

“It's really hard to come to work all the time and just see such sick young patients,” Alyssa Kirkpatrick, a critical care nurse, told VICE News. Many of her patients are in their 20s and 30s “who are on every single resource that we can throw at them to keep them alive.”

:snippity:
My sister is a critical care nurse. Her unit has been converted to an ICU.

These patients don't realize how offensive their words and choices are to those caring for them. The lack of gratitude is disgusting. These patients can say "thank you" over and over. Until they vaccinate, those words are meaningless.

Lori is isolating from her family ... again. Her newest granddaughter was born on Aug 1st. Lori was on leave when the baby was born, so she's seen her granddaughter a few times. Now she won't be able to see her granddaughter for who knows how long. Lori can't help her eldest daughter recover from her very difficult labor and delivery. She can't help her daughter during these first months.

Lori is sacrificing everything in her life for people whom would die without her sacrifice. And these assholes continue to believe rwnj media and Facebook rather that the professionals who save their lives.

A significant number of hospital healthcare professionals already manifest symptoms of PTSD. They will carry this trauma for years.

Sprout was born around the dawn of the latest, Andrew Wakefield-triggered anti-vaxx movement. Dr Bill Sears had a huge following. So did Mothering magazine, for the crunchy granola set. Homeschooling, too. Back then, there were as many non-religious parents extolling the virtues of homeschooling as Christians. They all urged caution with the MMR shot, especially.

Sprout’s pediatrician, Dr Fleiss, was trained in Germany, where homeopathy is part of the curriculum. He also became a pharmacist when he came to the US. He had a tiny compounding pharmacy in his office. If your child needed drugs, you walked out with them for $10 a pop, no matter what it was. And he taught Public Health at USC.

He was charming and persuasive and managed to convince almost all his parents of the safety and need for vaccinations. He always prefaced this talk by saying “Of course, the decision is yours to make, so let me give you the facts …”

Too bad we didn’t clone him. We need thousands of doctors like him.

Also, how funny that my favorite forced read in college was Arrowsmith by Sinclair Lewis.

A man has been jailed for breaching public health orders by travelling from Sydney to Armidale in northern NSW.

Key points:
Police say the man travelled from Cabramatta to Armidale via Newcastle
The 31-year-old will spend two months in prison for breaching public health orders
Tougher restrictions on travel to regional NSW are now in force

ARRRggggg... only 2 months jail... 2 years minimum and if anyone caught Covid as a result of him - 20 years...
I am so over treating these dangerous people leniently!

Dr Paul Fleiss was a client of A-1 Answering Service in Hollywood, where I worked the switchboard in 1971-72. Super nice guy. One time he called for his messages and asked how I was doing. I told him I had a UTI and he said to drink cranberry juice. He had a bunch of kids that I would often hear in the background when he called in. One of them grew up to become the Hollywood Madam. Heidi lives in Pahrump NV. She wanted to open a stud farm but she never got it up and running. But she did open a laundromat called Dirty Laundry. She was also engaged to pimp Dennis Hof, the owner of the Moonlite Bunny Ranch, who was elected to the state assembly after he died.

Poppy, really? Cool. He was a nice guy. I later shared a pottery wheel with a woman who’d grown up in the neighborhood with his kids, including Heidi. She was always a handful but he loved them all.

He fell while riding his bike (in Griffith Park, I think) at age 80. He never fully recovered. He died nearly a year later. He always ended our visits by saying “You’re a wonderful mom snd you’re doing a great job.” :lovestruck: :brokenheart:

So, I share a link on FB about twin boys celebrating their 12th birthday by getting vaccinated, and my niece leaves this comment:
I do not understand how you can support this for young kids especially when there is nothing to guarantee there r no future issues reproductive wise, or even worse, no one knows. Who knows how it will affect these children. I just don't understand, I cannot drink the Kool aid with regards to this, especially giving my daughter something that is unknown

Two more tourists were arrested for submitting fake vaccination cards for themselves and two children under the age of 12. I guess having cards for kids under 12 was a clear giveaway that the cards were fake. $8,000 fine.

Pharmacist Arrested for Selling COVID Vaccination Cards Online

A licensed pharmacist was arrested today in Chicago on charges related to his alleged sale of dozens of authentic Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) COVID-19 vaccination cards on eBay.

According to court documents, in March and April 2021, Tangtang Zhao, 34, of Chicago, sold 125 authentic CDC vaccination cards to 11 different buyers for approximately $10 per card. Zhao was a licensed pharmacist in Illinois and was employed at Company 1, a pharmacy which distributed and administered COVID-19 vaccines at its physical locations nationwide. As required by the CDC, Company 1 provided a CDC Vaccination Record Card to each vaccine recipient. Zhao, who worked at Company 1 as a pharmacist during that time, obtained and subsequently offered authentic CDC vaccination cards for sale online. The indictment charges Zhao with 12 counts of theft of government property.

Zhao is charged by indictment with 12 counts of theft of government property. Zhao made his initial court appearance on Aug. 17 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sheila M. Finnegan of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. If convicted, he faces a sentence of 10 years in prison per count. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

A fellow that I know told us that he has tremendous schadenfreude every time he hears/reads a story about an anti-vaxxer dying from COVID. I was kind of surprised anyone would admit that, but here's another story:
Christian Radio Host Who Called Vaccine ‘Government Control’ Dies of COVID-19

A religious radio broadcaster who spread disinformation about the coronavirus vaccines was killed by the virus Sunday. Dr. Jimmy DeYoung Sr. had been admitted to the hospital Aug. 7 with COVID-19 complications, according to his wife Judy, who also contracted the virus. In February, DeYoung published an interview promoting the conspiracy theories that the Pfizer vaccine would make women sterile and that world governments were using the virus and vaccine to centralize power. DeYoung’s guest at the time, Sam Rohrer, said that very few people who were infected lost their lives :bored: , calling the vaccine only a “purported solution” and “not truly a vaccine.”

Both host and guest encouraged listeners to read conspiracy-minded materials on the coronavirus vaccine, with DeYoung asking, “Could this vaccine be another form of government control of the people?” DeYoung’s daughter Jodi wrote of his death on Facebook, “God has called a faithful servant home. :nope: Dr Jimmy DeYoung passed away early this morning at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.” His show, “Prophecy Today,” aired daily. Before focusing on Christian prophecy, DeYoung worked as a journalist in Israel. DeYoung is one of a number of public figures who have died of COVID-19 in recent months after telling their audiences to refuse the jab.

Good news (not unexpected)

https://www.supremecourt.vic.gov.au/new ... s-judgment

The judgment in the matter of Kerry Cotterill v Finn Romanes and Brett Sutton has been handed down.
Updated: 17 August 2021
DETAILS
The judgment in the matter of Kerry Cotterill v Finn Romanes (in his capacity as the Deputy Public Health Commander) and Brett Sutton (in his capacity as Chief Health Officer) (S ECI 2020 03946) was handed down on Tuesday, 17 August 2021.
The trial in this matter was heard before the Honourable Justice Richard Niall of the Supreme Court of Victoria from Thursday, 29 July to Monday, 3 August.
The plaintiff (Ms Cotterill) was issued with an infringement under the Stay at Home Directions (Restricted Areas) (No 14). This matter concerns an application by Ms Cotterill that the Stay at Home Directions (Restricted Areas) (No 14) were outside the powers granted under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 (Vic) on the basis they infringe the implied freedom of political communication in the Australian Constitution.
The application was dismissed.
Read the judgment in Cotterill v Romanes
Published on 17 August 2021

https://www.supremecourt.vic.gov.au/sit ... %20498.pdf

short version:
8 The implied freedom is a limitation on legislative power, that prevents the State and
Commonwealth Parliaments from enacting legislation that imposes an unjustifiable burden on communication on political and governmental matters. The principle and the applicable test are well settled.
3 It has three elements that can be posed in interrogative form: do the provisions impose a burden on political communication; is the purpose compatible with the constitutionally prescribed system of representative government; and if so are the provisions appropriate and adapted to the pursuit of that purpose? It is convenient to describe it as the McCloy test.
9 The first issue that separates the parties is whether the McCloy test is to be applied directly to the PHW Act or to the Directions. For the reasons set out below, I accept the defendants’ submission that the test is to be applied to the legislation, specifically sub-ss 200(1)(b) and (d), and not to the particular exercises of power made under it. Applying that approach, I have concluded that sub-ss 200(1)(b) and (d) are valid in all their potential operations insofar as they may impose a burden on political communication. That is, because of the legitimate purpose they serve, and the significant constitutional limitations that confine their exercise and ensure that no lawful exercise of power can be obnoxious to the constitutional freedom. There is no reason to read down or dis-apply the provisions in a particular context in order to save their validity.
10 The plaintiff does not contend that the Directions are ultra vires the PHW Act, other than by directly applying the McCLoy test to them. That contention proceeds from a false premise and her arguments are directed to the wrong target. There being no other ground for attack, based on conventional judicial review grounds, the challenge to the Directions must fail.

A GROUP of protesters have "seized" Edinburgh Castle claiming they are acting lawfully under the Magna Carta.

Edinburgh Live was told by one eye-witness that as many as 30 people had stormed the capital landmark.

Police Scotland also confirmed that they have a presence on the scene with officers "engaging" with those who claimed to have taken the castle.

Edinburgh Evening News reported that the group were anti-lockdown protesters who claimed that "high treason" has been committed.

In a 13-minute video shared by the Scotland Against Lockdown twitter account the woman filming can be heard saying: "We have seized Edinburgh Castle.

"We're waiting to restore the rule of law. We're doing this peacefully and we're doing this lawfully.

READ MORE: Yes movement warned as Facebook groups 'become Covid conspiracy farms'

"We are using article 61 of the Magna Carta. We have had enough. The people of Scotland have had enough and today we claim our power back.

"The government has been acting treasonous against we the people."

Sharing the video, the Scotland Against Lockdown campaign wrote: "Sovereign Scots lay siege to take back Edinburgh Castle under Common Law, to remove and expose the corrupt political and admiral system". It also asked for people's support.

The police arrive later in the video and speak to those filming.

The Magna Carta, the first version of which was signed in 1215 by King John, has no standing in Scots law.

Article 61 originally gave a set of 25 barons the right to "assail" the monarch to keep to the document's provisions. However, it was repealed within a year of being written and the clause not included in subsequent versions.

Nevertheless, the claim that "article 61 of the Magna Carta" gives people the right to ignore lockdown regulations has been popular amongst Covid sceptics since early in the pandemic.

Fullfact found the claims to be "all incorrect".

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers are currently in attendance at Edinburgh Castle and are engaging with a group of people who have gathered within the Castle grounds.”
So lets recap

A bunch of idiots occupy a National monument.

Using a law that never existed in Scotland.

After Lockdowns have stopped so they are protesting something that does not exist.

I'm surprised they are not inviting Amo Bundy and holding Skousen Constitutions.
