White House launches tool for reporting social media 'bias'

The White House on Wednesday launched a tool that allows people to report possible "political bias" by social media companies, an issue that President Trump and top Republicans have hammered for months, accusing the largest tech platforms of censoring right-wing voices.

The reporting tool prompts users to "share [their] story with President Trump" if they suspect they were removed or reported on social media because of "political bias."

................

The form asks for the respondent's first and last name, zip code, phone number, and whether they are a citizen. Once they fill out that information, the tool asks what happened to their social media account, whether a specific post was involved and on which platform (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube or "other") it occurred. The tool also provides a space to attach screenshots.

"The Trump Administration is fighting for free speech online," the White House's official account tweeted. "No matter your views, if you suspect political bias has caused you to be censored or silenced online, we want to hear about it!" <SNIP>

SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS should advance FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Yet too many Americans have seen their accounts suspended, banned, or fraudulently reported for unclear “violations” of user policies.

No matter your views, if you suspect political bias caused such an action to be taken against you, share your story with President Trump.

Just another list building tool for the campaign to send targeted messaging, probably violating some FEC regulations if they are using .gov resources.

They’re using typeform and the White House “brand.”

No, its brilliant. Now the President can send a ''personal'' response and using postage franking because he's responding to someone petitioning the government for redress of grievances! Watch, I'll bet a donut they do something along those lines, and it'll allow them to use First Class Mail to send out what is in effect (but not legally, or to be legally challenged before the election) campaign junk mail to people who have self identified as supporters.

As tensions between Iran and the United States increase in the Middle East, the Pentagon briefing room is being used to host Gene Simmons of Kiss.

Someone way down in the comments says she set this up as some pro-veterans program that Simmons supports. Or something.

trump has just about broken me. Stories like this and the bomb last night about *somebody* connected with trump and/or congress contacting Flynn to lie to Mueller, on their own, would normally be weeks of outraged media coverage. But now it's just another day in Russian Talabanistan.

The WH will have to weed out some fake submissions. While the form is blocked overseas there are ways to peek at it and do more..

Question:
Is it fully legal that the government uses a third party platform whitehouse.typeform.com/to/Jti9QH to do business? Does this comply with record keeping rules? Does this comply with privacy rules as Typeform.com gets to see the internet logs etc?

The U.S. Navy has acknowledged that a request was made to hide the USS John S. McCain during President Donald Trump's recent state visit to Japan.

"A request was made to the U.S. Navy to minimize the visibility of USS John S. McCain, however, all ships remained in their normal configuration during the President's visit," Rear Admiral Charlie Brown, chief of information, said in a statement to NBC News.

"There were also no intentional efforts to explicitly exclude Sailors assigned to USS John S. McCain," the statement said.

Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan said Friday he’d asked his chief of staff to “look into” the reported request from the White House to move the ship "out of sight" during Trump's visit.

“Our business is to run military operations and not become politicized,” Shanahan told reporters during a news conference in Singapore. “I would not have moved the ship," he added.

Donnie Boy: John McCain was more of a president despite never being president than you could ever hope to be as president.

Sometimes I wish I had twitter. It seems to be a bother.

This begs for a poll as to who Initiated this stupidity. My initial guesses are (1) ivanka, (2) Jared, (3) Stephen Miller. Whoever it was, I wonder what he or she was afraid Trump might do?

Just my arrogant opinion but I suspect Miller thrives on trump controversies. My money is on Ivanka.

Mulvaney on Fox said “that’s not an unreasonable ask” to move the USS John McCain when Trump was in Japan because of the way Trump “feels” about McCain. Mulvaney downplayed it as a matter looked into by WH advance team

Considering that it was to be the Memorial Day speech on the vessel next to the McCain I believe it was prudent for WH officials to mask the name. I bet had dotus seen it he may have ventured off script in his speech and start ranting over McCain. He really just needs a minor detail to get him off course.

Still, incredibly petty.
