Perhaps I'm dense (a likely possibility), but why is it so hard to just let a recount happen and accept the votes?

Because Trump "fights back" and "never admits defeat." Even when his actions make no sense whatsoever, because the state election law calls for a recount.

Lawsuits and accusations are flying from the GOP, but the fact remains today as yesterday and Saturday: There is ZERO evidence of fraud or illegal activity. Zero. Counting continues, the alt right dopes keep trying to make up stuff (something about ballots at the airport in a rental car at Avis, it's bottom of the barrel stuff), Jeb! weighs in with irrelevant info (never forget he's a dick) and if the 24,000 undervotes for Senate are true, it's Senator Nelson to you, Laura Loomer.

The thing to remember here to remember is that Miami-Dade is a humungous number of people/voters, just running those ballots back through the machines takes a great lot of time, and it they have to do a manual recount it takes a great lot of time, and isn't going to happen just because Gov Skeletor is having a fit. Even as big as those counties are, population wise, they have a limited amount of money for personnel and people can only count so fast, so it will get done when it gets done under those circumstances. It does sound like they had some logistics problems, but that is not the same thing as dishonesty. The real driver here is that the GOP candidates is afeared they might justa rightly and justly lost, and they very well could considering that Miami-Dade is largely Democrat these days.
The fact that you sincerely and wholeheartedly believe that the “Law of Gravity” is unconstitutional and a violation of your sovereign rights, does not absolve you of adherence to it.

Palm Beach Post: Florida election: A scorecard for tracking who is suing who over what:
Jim Bonfiglio vs. Palm Beach County Elections Supervisor Susan Bucher and Secretary of State Ken Detzner: This is the only lawsuit filed thus far that asks a judge to extend Thursday’s afternoon deadline for completion of the machine recount that is now underway. . . .

Rick Scott for Florida v. Bucher: Republican Scott, who saw his lead against incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson shrink in the days after last Tuesday’s election, claims Bucher isn’t securing the elections center in Riviera Beach properly. . . . [The judge] said there was no evidence of wrongdoing and denied a request to impound voting machines when not in use, according to various media reports.

Rick Scott for Senate vs. Broward County Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes: Scott claims Snipes continued to canvass ballots after Saturday’s noon deadline to report unofficial results to the state. . . .

Bill Nelson for U.S. Senate v. Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner: Nelson is challenging a state law that requires elections supervisors to toss out mail-in and provisional ballots if the signatures on them don’t match those on file. . . . A hearing on the lawsuit is set for Wednesday at 1 p.m. before federal Judge Mark Walker.

Larry Klayman v. Snipes: The right-wing conservative activist lawyer and founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch on Tuesday filed a lawsuit, alleging fraud, misconduct and corruption, as well as denial of access to the inspection of ballots under the Florida Public Records Act. . . . He said he plans to file a similar lawsuit against Bucher in Palm Beach County.

Campaign to Elect Matt Caldwell Commissioner of Agriculture vs. Snipes: Republican Caldwell, who saw his lead vanish in his race against Democrat Nikki Fried, claims it appears Snipes inappropriately counted mail-in ballots that were received after Election Day’s 7 p.m. deadline. . . .

Rick Scott for Senate v. Bucher: Scott claims Bucher wasn’t letting people watch her workers when they duplicated damaged ballots so they could be fed through tabulation machines. . . . In a hearing Friday, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Krista Marx said it was too late to order Bucher to let people watch the duplication process after Bucher’s attorney told her that all of the ballots had been copied. But, Marx ordered Bucher to collect the duplicated ballots that hadn’t been reviewed by the canvassing board and let the board review them. Bucher said the ballots were mixed with others and had difficulty finding them but was trying to comply. She is appealing the order to the 4th District Court of Appeal.

Florida Democratic Party vs. Bucher: In a request from the Democrats, Marx on Friday ordered Bucher to release the names of people who cast provisional ballots. . . . Marx said she would consider extending the deadline if the party could come up with valid reason for her to do so.

NBC Universal Media v. Palm Beach County Canvassing Board: Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Kathleen Kroll late Friday ruled that canvassing board meetings are public, paving the way for temporarily banned television cameras to again record the vote-counting. . . .

It was interesting because afterward, one of them went over to interview the protesters and gave them an opportunity to make themselves look like a bunch of loons.

Imagine if NFL team was trailing 24-22 but in final seconds hits a 3 pt kick to win. Then AFTER game lawyers for losing team get a judge to order rules changed so that last second field goals are only 1 point

Well that’s how democrat lawyers plan to steal #Florida election 1/4

Can't they just shut up and wait for the votes to be counted?

It doesn't matter if democratic lawyers plan to steal the Crown Jewels. If the judge tells them no, it ain't gonna happen.

On the twitter machine a bit ago, saw a photo of McConnell meeting with the newly elected republican senators. Guess who was included in the picture.

NEW: Judge rules Florida law on matching ballot signatures being applied unconstitutionally. https://abcn.ws/2DDZCDN
U.S. District Chief Judge Mark Walker has granted a preliminary injunction, sought by Democratic incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson, ordering Florida’s secretary of state to direct local supervisors of elections that they must allow voters with suspected mismatched signatures to "cure" -- or validate -- their vote-by-mail and provisional ballots by 5 p.m. Saturday.

The deadline for Florida counties to finish their recounts in Nelson's Senate race against GOP Gov. Rick Scott, as well as in the governor's race pitting former Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis against Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a Democrat, is 3 p.m. Thursday.

Brenda Snipes resigns as Broward County supervisor of elections
By Dan Merica and Annie Grayer, CNN
Updated 1528 GMT (2328 HKT) November 19, 2018

(CNN)Brenda Snipes has submitted her resignation as the supervisor of elections for Broward County, Florida, after the completion of a recount that brought renewed scrutiny of her tenure.

"Although I have enjoyed this work tremendously over these many election cycles, both large and small, I am ready to pass the torch," Snipes wrote Sunday in her resignation letter to Gov. Rick Scott, which was obtained by CNN. She requested in the letter that her resignation be effective January 4, 2019.

The Sun-Sentinel first reported the news of Snipes' resignation.
.
Snipes, a Democrat, was the subject of widespread condemnation from Republicans during Florida's statewide recount.

Republicans used Snipes, who oversaw the at times hapless vote counting effort in Broward County, as a foil during the recount, seizing on mistakes made in her office to suggest that fraud was being committed, although no evidence of fraud was ever produced. Snipes dismissed the criticism as politically motivated, and expressed her frustration during the recount.

It's also worth noting -- since I don't see a specific thread for it -- that one of the state-level recounts did yield an upset for the lone (D) winning a state-level executive office in Florida. Trailing going into the late night hours of election day, Nikki Fried pulled off an upset in the Florida Ag Commissioner race after all the recounts and her (R) opponent conceded today.

This is a lot larger than it seems in consequence, to those who know Florida. The Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services has a portfolio that goes beyond simple agricultural matters. Ms Fried ran on a portfolio of marijuana legalization, gun control, and a few other issues that actually play into the AgComm's balliwick.

She will be the lone (D) voice in the next Florida cabinet, and since the cabinet collectively exercises power in some areas where the Governor -- who is just another voice on the Cabinet, in effect -- does not, she keeps this from being a walk-away of single party control again.

So.

(If there *IS* a thread for this and I missed it, someone tap me on the shoulder and let me know so that I can find it when it's moved...)

Also Florida's environmental catastrophe is mostly caused by under-regulated corporate agriculture. She has a chance to keep the Republicans from sweeping that under the rug.

One of our many water-related problems caused by Scott pulling clean-water regulations, put in place by former moderate republican Gov. Charlie Crist, was to be corrected, as least partly, by building a reservoir south of the cesspool known as Lake Okeechobee. Scott, knowing he'd be running for senate and wanting to fool the rubes into thinking he cared about the water situation, finally broke down and bought the land from Big Sugar.

Then after he was declared apparent winner of the senate race, the first thing he did was slip a provision into a must-pass bill that allowed Big Sugar (I believe the specific company is Florida Crystals) to continue farming on our reservoir land until 2027.

2027!!!

Our beaches, marine wildlife and tourist industry will be dead long before they can even start building the reservoir.

What I want to know is if the new governor, DeSantis (R for racist pig) can and/or would undo the lease extension. If he can, and will, I promise to stop calling him a racist pig.
