The Zoomers (Gen Z) are amazingly politically active. Makes sense considering they've been raised with school shootings and GOP madness all their lives. They are fighting back and they deserve a topic of thanks.

Pew Research Center decided a year ago to use 1996 as the last birth year for Millennials for our future work. Anyone born between 1981 and 1996 (ages 23 to 38 in 2019) is considered a Millennial, and anyone born from 1997 onward is part of a new generation, Gen Z (Zoomers).

Next up is Generation Alpha (Gen Alpha for short), the demographic cohort succeeding Generation Z. Researchers and popular media use the early 2010s as the starting birth years and the mid-2020s as the ending birth years.

Why is he in a right hand drive car? He speaks with an American accent, but the car suggests he's not in the US. Passion is great, but I'd prefer that he also be a voter in US elections ;)

The image is probably reversed left to right as many many many many many many videos are for some mysterious reason.

Possibly because they are filmed with the selfie camera which is set up so that you see yourself as you would in a mirror.

Because phone cameras show things right side around from the rear camera and mirror image in selfie mode. If you video from the rear camera you can't see what you're videoing so everybody videos themselves in selfie mode and we all look like we're driving on the wrong side of the road.

Sugar is exactly right. We've seen tons of SovCits & other fools on Facebook with reversed cameras too also. And of course, Neon's told us all about Chaturbate models being backward. 8-)

If you create the video using YouTube’s shorts app on the front camera, there is no way around this in the settings. It blows my mind that a mega-corporation’s basic functionality is so borked like this for recording musical performances where your hands and instrument are reversed. There are lots of videos out there telling you how to correct this in 25 simple steps using third party apps and exporting /importing. WHY is this so cumbersome!?!!!

Depends on the content, it could be the way someone has filmed themselves on their phone, possibly downloaded a Facebook live and not flipped the mirrored view, or if it’s someone else content it’s a cheeky way of getting around copywriter issues they’d come across otherwise.

YouTubers do this to avoid any copyright issues with the video. YouTube won't make a copyright claim if the video is altered, so when YouTubers reverse the text, it counts as altering the footage. Cropping the video also doesn't this as well.

WTF? Lindsey Graham just said Trump should “punch a cop” and “smash some windows” on the way to the DA’s office.
A sitting Republican Senator just called for Trump to commit more crimes. What the hell is wrong with them?

He knows how important Wisconsin is on Tuesday.

And check out this YouTube that Harry introduces... a high school transgender student made a fool out of Glenn Youngkin on a CNN town hall. :boxing:

I keep telling my friends, US (and most of the world) drive on the right side of the road. So Aussies are driving on the wrong side of the road.

Opinion Meet the young Democrats waging war on MAGA from behind enemy lines
By Greg Sargent and Paul Waldman

Catalyzing events in U.S. history have a tendency to shape generations of public officials. In the 1920s, Prohibition and the GOP’s depression economics gave rise to the New Deal Democrats. Racial and cultural repression in the mid-20th century spawned classes of lawmakers fighting for the “rights revolution.” In the 1970s, the Vietnam War and Watergate inspired the antiwar “Watergate babies” to run for Congress.

It might be happening again: The reactionary turn underway in many red states is beginning to shape a new generation of young Democratic officials, many of whom will one day be the party’s leaders.

In these red states, young Democrats are entering local politics and developing public presences in response to the far-right culture-warring unleashed by GOP majorities. New restrictions on abortion and the growing right-wing backlash to LGBTQ rights are radicalizing a wave of Democratic public servants who mostly hail from the Gen Z and millennial generations.

“We’re seeing this across the country,” said Amanda Litman, a co-founder of Run For Something, which recruits progressive candidates for state and local office. “It’s no coincidence that some of the loudest voices pushing back are young leaders in red states, often from urban environments, often people of color, often LGBTQ themselves.”

Last week, after the GOP-controlled state legislature in Tennessee expelled two young Black lawmakers for protesting gun violence, and after a Texas judge invalidated federal approval of abortion medication, Run For Something’s candidate recruitment spiked. Litman says more than half the new candidates are from red states.

What binds these lawmakers and candidates together is an acute sense that the character of the country is on the line and it could determine their own futures. “For them, every part of this conversation is personal,” Litman says.

Michael Kazin, the author of a new history of the Democratic Party, sees parallels between this generation and previous ones whose deepest political aspirations were shaped in reaction to broad historical currents.

“Every generation seeks to leave its mark,” Kazin told us. “As before,” he added, this one is “trying to realize the promise of a multicultural America against a movement or formation that’s trying to pull us back to an earlier sense of what America should be.”
