Rain continues but the wind is moderate. Rhode Island getting the worst of Henri.

As we approach the end of August something is different this year.

Usually by now the WLNG commercials have switched from summer items to back to school and autumn items.

This year the summer commercials continue. You would think it was June. :o

The storm is gone but rain is coming. Enjoying a last few minutes of dry weather before the deluge.

After 2 days of heavy rain the weather is now gorgeous.

However the powers that be have begun to close beaches due to storm water runoff with high bacteria counts.

WLNG is playing all Rolling Stones tonight.

In between songs they are doing phone interviews with people who met or worked with Charlie Watts. This is easier for them than you might think it would be for a small market radio station. That small market includes The Hamptons where many successful NYC entertainers have their summer mansions.

Since late Spring I have been driving twice weekly to Cutchogue for physical therapy intended to help with balance problems.

For all of that time there have been utility trucks with bucket lifts replacing the electric power poles that run along the Main Rd.

The impressive thing is that the crews do this while the power is on. :o

Physical therapy can certainly help with balance problems. After back surgeries my balance was definitely compromised. After my last one the therapist had to stand behind me to catch me if/when I fell! But you can see the progress as you go. It is an important specialty for older folks too!

IDK about the bucket guys and leaving the power on but it sounds very consumer friendly.

After PT I leave the Main Rd. in Mattituck and go home via the grandly named Peconic Bay Boulevard which is a narrow winding 4 ton limit road.

This involves dodging joggers, walkers, dog walkers, bicyclists, lawn service trucks, etc.

Since August began the numbers of such have noticeably increased but not to typical levels.

Schools are starting to open here now. Things starting to get quieter during the week. Three of the cottages on the Circle are now empty until next year. One more will empty next week.

A few days ago the water heater in Mrs. V's oldest brother's cottage sprung a leak and flooded the basement. :(

The Town of Riverhead is holding its Country Fair this weekend despite Covid. It is earlier this year than usual since the Polish Festival normally held on that weekend was cancelled.

Mrs.V, her brother and his wife went into Greenport for the afternoon. I didn't go along because my legs get all wobbly for the rest of the day after a physical therapy session.

Besides they will be hanging around antique stores which is not my thing. ;)

Google location sharing tells me that Mrs.V. et al have stopped at the Magic Fountain ice cream stand in Mattituck.

My dinner of marinated grilled pork chops will probably be delayed. :(

The last 3 days were very hot and humid.

A cold front came down from the north last night. Today is positively autumnal. Cool and breezy.

She can’t sneak an ice cream without her phone ratting on her, eh?

It is a quiet and cool Sunday on the North Fork.

Our younger daughter's work schedule became fixed yesterday so she will be flying up here on Tuesday for a visit. Just in time for the remnants of Ida which are forecast to be here Wednesday night and Thursday. ;)

Beautiful weather here today as we wait for the remnants of IDA.

Mrs. V. has gone to the LI airport to pick up our younger daughter. Our daughter almost didn't make it because for a while this morning Nashville airport was closed due to the storm. Eventually the airport reopened so our daughter could make her connecting flight.

Schools have opened here this week so the numbers of bicyclists, dog walkers, etc is suddenly greatly reduced.

Doesn't feel like it's the last big week before Labor Day weekend.
