Beautiful home and property. Good choice. Looks like you have plenty of room for guests, for dogs to run, and a quiet evening under the stars. Enjoy it immensely.

Some before and after pictures of the living room. Most of the main floor is paneled with very dark plywood. We thought about replacing it with drywall, but opted to paint it first to see whether we liked it. It retains a lot of the rustic look, and you can actually see the furniture.

What a difference the lighter color on the walls makes! Stunning!! And I love, love, love the huge windows. I’d probably find it hard to tear myself away from just gazing at that magnificent view. :daydreaming: I hope you enjoy every second of your time there.

I’m still a little in shock that we actually own this place, and we got it for about half of what our townhouse will sell for. We’re going to need that extra cash to fix the foundation and some other issues (the original owners apparently had the attitude, “permits, shmermits - we don’t need no stinking permits”). We have the structural engineer coming to do an inspection of the foundation and we’ll have the get it repaired (we assume they’ll have to jack up the house and redo the underpinning). We have an electrician coming to replace the electrical panel - the original owners did some stuff that was pretty unsafe, and we thought it would be better to just yank it out and replace it. But we knew all this going in. And it’s not all bad news - the place has a brand new roof, brand new floors throughout, and a brand new HVAC system. And we’re handy enough that we can fix most other issues ourselves (except those columns - that’s going to require additional engineering work, but one thing at a time).

They say location is everything, but I’d a million times rather be here than in the exurbs of Northern Virginia. Whenever I get stressed about anything, I just look out the window. :lovestruck: To my knowledge there’s not a Starbucks in all of Page County, and I’m OK with that (there are, however, a lot of Trump signs and confederate flags, which I’m less OK with). But the people out here are friendly. Everyone wears a mask even though they all think it’s a hoax, because it’s the law and they’re rule-followers.

Some years ago I bought a 1930’s English modernist/deco house that had “settled” (apparently it wasn’t unusual for builders of the period to fail to ensure the site was stable :smoking:). Happily the structural engineers gave it a favourable verdict, and I hope the same is true for you.

As an aside; I’ve always found Starbucks coffee in the UK to be pretty insipid.

Edited to insert “fail to” :blackeye:
