Maybenaut, I’m sure you realize how fortunate you are to have such magnificent sights, but I have a feeling I’m not the only one who reacted to the absolute awesomeness of that moon. :faint:

Strawberry moon. I looked last night but it was cloudy. I'll try again tonight.

Nope. It’s illegal to feed the deer in Virginia because of the potential for chronic wasting disease.

We took that picture using an iphone. We have an attachment for the telescope that allows you to line up you phone’s camera with the eyepiece.

We get people pulling into our driveway to nap occasionally. Our house used to be a business, and still kind of looks like it.

We also get the occasional barfer. We’re on a very, very windy mountain road, and if you’re prone to carsickness, we’re the first place after the windy spot where you can safely pull off.

We have a rope across the entrance and private residence signs. If we leave the rope down, at least one car a day will pull all the way in, in spite of the signs. I’ve never had anyone unhook the rope, but that happened down at the cabin once. Dude was like, “Just wanted to see where this road goes.” The fact that he had to get out of his car and unhook a chain apparently wasn’t enough of a clue that the answer was “nowhere public.”

:yeahthat: I hope the shingles go away soon and is not too painful!

The view from your new place is spectacular. I always love to see when good things happen to good people. I'm so sorry you are having a bout with shingles but it warms my heart to see something wonderful happen in the life of someone on this board. Your new place is fabulous!

We see Luray, VA off to the left, then Stanley, VA is directly in front of us, and we can see part of Shenandoah to the right, but most of that town is blocked by the ridge. It’s so beautiful at night to see the lights of the towns. Night before last I was outside at 2:00 am and saw the milky way.

We had lots of clear nights in the middle of nowhere on the trip out West, but we were always too beat to stay up late enough for a view. I haven't seen it since I was a kid.

It's amazing how many people live in cities and have never seen the Milky Way. I remember the first time I ever was in a place where there really was a dark sky. I was blown away. I never dreamed there were that many stars in the sky. I was hooked on the idea of getting a telescope from that moment on.
