North Fork porch report

Sitting out in the heat under the ceiling fan. A pretty good breeze has just started. :)

Circle is unusually quiet for a Saturday. Guess people are staying home for the air conditioning.

 I wonder how many of those D-Day landing boats have had a second life and are still in operation.

North Fork porch report.

Seeing lightning and hearing thunder to the west. WLNG radio confirms storm is coming.

Cold front on the way. :)

All the rooms at Mrs. V's music event have had an AC failure. They refunded the extra price for an air conditioned room but Mrs. V. has been uncomfortable at night. She needs a cold front.

Rain is forecast from later today thru Tuesday but the weather on Wednesday for the parade is forecast to be clear and dry.

Jamesport Fire Department’s annual bazaar, parade and fireworks return July 23-27

https://riverheadlocal.com/2019/07/10/j ... uly-23-27/
The fun starts on Tuesday, July 23, when the bazaar opens with midway games, rides, games of chance and food vendors on the property of the George Young Community Center on South Jamesport Avenue. The bazaar continues through Saturday, July 27 and runs from 6 p.m. till 11 p.m. during the week and from 4 till midnight Saturday.

On Wednesday, July 24, the Jamesport Fire Department’s annual parade steps off at 7 p.m. on Main Road at Washington Avenue and heads east, ending on Manor Lane. The big parade features marching bands and trucks from fire departments near and far. It’s the biggest parade of the summer and hundreds of people line Main Road each year to watch it pass by. (See more photos from last year’s parade here.)

Saturday night after dark, a spectacular fireworks display will light up the Jamesport sky. (The show begins approximately 9:15.)

The weeklong event has been a North Fork family favorite for generations. It’s a fundraiser for the Jamesport Fire Department, whose volunteers provide fire and rescue services in Jamesport, Aquebogue and Laurel.

As always after heavy rain here-

57 Suffolk Beaches Closed To Bathing After Heavy Rainfall

https://patch.com/new-york/northfork/s/ ... aign=alert
The advisory was issued because of the potential presence of bacteria at levels that exceed New York State standards.

The beaches covered by the advisory are located in areas that are heavily influenced by stormwater runoff from the surrounding watersheds and adjacent tributaries.

These beaches are located in an enclosed embayment and experience limited tidal flushing.

Yesterday evening was our Fire Department Parade. :-D

One of Mrs. V's cousins, her husband and I headed over 1/2 hour before the parade started to get good seats. Right after we settled into our chairs an ambulance comes down the street. We thought nothing of this since the whole area was jammed with fire trucks and emergency vehicles of all kinds participating in the parade.

The ambulance stopped right in front of us.

Image

EMTs got out and started getting things out of the back. Then we see a woman with her arm in a makeshift sling getting on the gurney. It was one of our association members. :o After the ambulance slowly made its way out of the throng we saw her husband and got the story. She had been getting on the local civic association's trailer for the parade when she fell and broke her wrist. :( At that point the parade was starting so the fastest way for him to get his antique pickup truck out was to stay in the parade as far as Main Road and then turn left (the parade goes right) to get to the hospital.

Image

Image

Not to let the fire department get all the fun here is our highway superintendent who every winter earns hero status keeping the roads clear. His people use this mean machine to help emergency responders get thru on as yet unplowed roads by plowing paths for them as they rush to emergency locations.

Image

Here on the North Fork we have the very latest fire engines and equipment. ;)

Below is the pride of the Railroad Museum of Long Island in Riverhead. They had this engine for decades but didn't have the money to restore it. Then a little while ago one of their long time volunteers passed away and left the the museum $500,000. They were shocked.. So now this engine has been fully restored. It made its post restoration debut in the parade.

Image

This is farm country so the LI Antique Power Association was well represented.

Image

Some farmers in training. ;)

Image

Many tractors.

Image

Our most local brewery. They recently lost one of their most popular bartenders in a car accident. :(

Image

The Eastport Fire Department folks are a little weird. Yes, smoke is pouring out of that float.

I love fire truck parades!
