Greg Abbott - Gregory Wayne Abbott, former TX AG, now 48th Governor of Texas

Post by raison de arizona »

I think we lost our Abbott thread in the board crash. Unless I just missed it.
'They will be arrested.' Gov. Abbott responds to Texas Democrats' flight to Washington, D.C.
The Texas Legislature's special session started on July 8. Among the issues that lawmakers are expected to address are bail reform and "election integrity."
:snippity:
And is there anything you as governor can do to get the Democrats back to Texas?
:snippity:
"Answering your second question, yes, there is something the governor can do. First of all, I'll tell you what the House of Representatives can do. What the speaker can do is issue a call to have these members arrested. In addition to that, however, I can and I will continue to call a special session after special session after special session all the way up until election next year. And so if these people want to be hanging out wherever they're hanging out on this taxpayer-paid junket, they're going to have to be prepared to do it for well over a year. As soon as they come back in the state of Texas, they will be arrested, they will be cabined inside the Texas Capitol until they get their job done. Everybody who has a job must show up to do that job, just like your viewers on watching right now. State representatives have that same responsibility."

Rules, schmools, laws are for fools.

Just like the blackouts that caused over a hundred deaths, ole Abbott knows it's "mainly a paperwork issue".

Ah, but you forget, everything conservatives do not like is 'treason' since it is 'destroying america'

But... They voted and everything?

They should try to extradite them from D.C., that would be a hoot.

Yabut there is also this...

Sec. 10. QUORUM; ADJOURNMENTS FROM DAY TO DAY; COMPELLING ATTENDANCE. Two-thirds of each House shall constitute a quorum to do business, but a smaller number may adjourn from day to day, and compel the attendance of absent members, in such manner and under such penalties as each House may provide. Remember, when the Oregon Republicans ran out, it was freedomy patriotism when Texas Dems do it, it is obstructionism from commie/Marxist/nazi/feminist libs.
Abbott wrote:Everybody who has a job must show up to do that job, just like your viewers on watching right now. State representatives have that same responsibility.
Just like your Senator ran to Cancun instead of doing his job. I'm sure all you responsible TX Republicans called out the Oregan ones for running away.

Their hypocrisy has no bottom.

Except for the COVID part, this is basically why Maricopa County paid millions and millions to settle the Arpaio lawsuits.

Impressive, he is worried about the COVID rise from migrants being a burden on their communities, but the COVID rise from his anti-Vax base is no problem.

Resistance to a mask mandate. Only 43% fully vaxinated. The COVID spikes must be because of the migrants.

Yeah, maybe this should have been put in the race topic. This is nothing but a blame the dark folk EO.

July 28 Abbott issued his exec order.

July 29 Merrick Garland said retract it immediately.

Abbott musta thought he had some time.

He didn’t.

July 30 DOJ sued Texas.

Just… Stop.
Governor Abbott, Attorney General Paxton Aligned in Defense of Executive Order Prohibiting Mask Mandates
August 11, 2021 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton today announced the filing of a mandamus petition in the 5th Court of Appeals to strike down the actions by Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. The judge’s order violates Executive Order GA-38 and state law. GA-38 prohibits governmental entities and officials from mandating face coverings. It has the force and effect of state law and supersedes local rules and regulations.

The Texas Disaster Act clearly states that the Governor has the power to guide the state through emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Any school district, public university, or local government official that decides to defy the order will be taken to court.

“Under Executive Order GA-38, no governmental entity can require or mandate the wearing of masks,” said Governor Abbott. “The path forward relies on personal responsibility—not government mandates. The State of Texas will continue to vigorously fight the temporary restraining order to protect the rights and freedoms of all Texans.”

“This isn’t the first time we have dealt with activist characters. It’s deja vu all over again,” Attorney General Paxton said. “Attention-grabbing judges and mayors have defied executive orders before, when the pandemic first started, and the courts ruled on our side – the law. I’m confident the outcomes to any suits will side with liberty and individual choice, not mandates and government overreach.”
