Republicans behaving badly

Post by LM K »

This is egregious.

'"Punchbowl News' John Bresnahn explained that during a vote for HR 1280: The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021, Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) cast a vote for the bill. His Republican colleagues freaked out, saying that it needed to be changed. Three of them protested, attempting to change the vote in with the Tally Clerk.

When members vote they have a card they can insert into voting stations and cast their vote. If they want to change their vote they can do so at any time, but if they want to change the vote in the last five minutes of the count, they have to go to the Tally Clerk and take a "red card," sign it, and hand it to the Clerk. At no point did Gooden use the red card option, but three other Republicans attempted to, signing Gooden's name to it.

According to Bresnahn, "The cards were rejected by House clerks. A possible ethics violation by [Reps.]Louie Gohmert (R-TX), Randy Weber (R-TX) and Kelly Armstrong (R-ND)."
...
"After conferring with others on the dais, the vote is not counted (Red card still visible in the clerk's hand, and one floor staffer goes out in the Speaker's Lobby to look for the person who dropped off the card," said Dupree. "Why is this of note? Lawmakers cannot cast a vote in the House for another member like that. It would be the House version of vote fraud."

And now Gooden claims he didn't mean to vote Aye.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2 ... ntal-vote/

However, the actions of Gohmert, Armstrong, and Weber are still inappropriate and not allowed.

WTF?

On a party-line vote Wednesday, the House passed a bill that grants civil and criminal immunity for drivers who unintentionally injure or kill protesters while “fleeing from a riot.”

House Bill 1674 from Rep. Kevin West, R-Moore, is just one of a handful of GOP-sponsored bills in the Oklahoma Legislature this year designed to crack down on protests.

The bill came under fire from legislative Democrats who said the Republican majority was looking to lash out at protesters instead of taking steps to address systemic racism and police misconduct that have spurred widespread Black Lives Matter protests.

Maybe we will pass that law in MS and I can "accidentally" run over some of those anti-abortion fuckwits that block traffic on a main street.

Oh? That's not what they're directing the law at? Shame.

The House Ethics Committee has confirmed that Republicans Louie Gohmert and Andrew Clyde have been fined for evading security screenings at the Capitol.

Gohmert was fined $5,000. Clyde was fined $15,000 for two separate incidents.

Keep it up until they get the message. Given their IQs, that could cost them more than a few pennies.

Gohmert was only fined for one evasion? Does that mean he now goes through the screening?

UPDATE: 2 suspects in custody for ‘Biden Barn’ fire, as more details emerge. Here’s what we know
March 11, 2021
Read more here: https://www.centredaily.com/news/local/ ... rylink=cpy
Two teenagers are in custody — and facing numerous felony counts of arson — for allegedly starting the Saturday fire that burned down Reedsville’s “Biden Barn,” an iconic building painted in support of the president and vice president.

According to a Thursday night news release from the Mifflin County Regional Police Department, 19-year-old Michael R. Kauffman, of Mifflintown, was arraigned by Mifflin County Magisterial District Judge Kent Smith and moved to the Mifflin County Prison, where he’s being held on $500,000 bail. The other suspect is a 15-year-old juvenile who’s involved with a local fire department, unnamed because of his age. He was transported to Centre County’s youth detention center.

According to the criminal complaint, four teens were joyriding together the night of the fire — although only two have been charged so far, as a 17-year-old boy and his girlfriend allegedly stayed in the truck during the arson. (It’s unknown if more charges might be forthcoming.) When Kauffman was asked why they started the blaze, during a phone call monitored Thursday by police, he said, “Because it was the Biden Barn.”

:snippity:

The Biden Barn became a local landmark around September, when the Herst Family decided to paint their barn in support of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris — in part because Biden signs kept being stolen locally and, lifelong Democrat Robin Herst said, “We knew no one could steal a barn.”

The community response to the alleged arson was swift. A GoFundMe https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-rebuild ... hare-sheet has raised more than $22,000 so far to rebuild the barn, and the Hersts have received dozens of calls and visitors — some from as far away as Arizona and Texas.

Make the arsonists rebuild the barn. While earning prison wages.

(CNN)Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell gave a stark warning Tuesday about how Republicans would grind the chamber to a halt if Democrats changed the filibuster rules, leading to a "completely scorched earth Senate."

The Kentucky Republican defended the 60-vote threshold on the legislative filibuster in a floor speech, cautioning Democrats that if they moved to change the rules of the filibuster, it would not open up an express lane for the Biden administration to push through their agenda. Instead, Republicans would use every rule and option at their disposal to halt the chamber, making the Senate "more like a 100-car pileup, nothing moving."

Majority Whip Dick Durbin told reporters he's not concerned about McConnell's threats to slow the Senate if Democrats change the filibuster because "he has already done that."

McConnell also laid out the conservative agenda Republicans would swiftly move on the next time they take control of Congress and White House, most of which Democrats would vehemently oppose -- like defunding Planned Parenthood.

The pendulum would swing both ways, "and it would swing hard," he warned.
I'm with Dick Durbin.

Michigan GOP chair seen on video calling state's female leaders "witches" and joking about assassinating Republicans who voted for Trump impeachment

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ron-weiser ... officials/
The "witches" comment refers to three female leaders who are all up for reelection in 2022: Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Attorney General Dana Nessel and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. All three are Democrats and became GOP targets for their opposition to Mr. Trump and his attempts to overturn his defeat in Michigan.

Whitmer, in particular, has been subjected to misogynist criticism over her handling COVID-19 restrictions. She was also allegedly targeted for a failed kidnapping plot.

Some audience members pushed back on Weiser's response, demanding answers about how to handle "witches in our own party."

:snippity:

Weiser called the women "witches" in a different part of his comments as well, saying Republicans wanted to "soften up those three witches and make sure that we have good candidates to run against them, that they are ready for the burning at the stake."

Lawmaker suggests there were two sides to history of slavery
https://www.wyofile.com/lawmaker-sugges ... f-slavery/

What an ass. His opinions are as stupid as his haircut.
CHEYENNE – A freshman Wyoming legislator suggested Wednesday that there are two sides to the history of American slavery, and that Black Americans are “stuck” in a mentality he called “worse than slavery itself.”

More importantly, this moron is pushing to rewrite Wyoming's educational curriculum. He thinks students need to be taught his version of Civics (religious liberty). When a Democrat on the committee asked him what the 19th Amendment was, he was stumped. What a maroon!
