While millions of Texans languished in their homes last week without heat, many of them racking up astronomical electricity bills, the state official in charge of consumer protection left to take an out-of-state trip.

According to a campaign spokesman, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton left the state during the middle of the power outage crisis to meet with a fellow attorney general in Utah for a “previously planned meeting,” reported the Dallas Morning News, which first broke the story. His wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, was also on the trip, she confirmed Monday through a spokeswoman.

The revelation marks the third instance of a Texas public official leaving the state during the disaster that affected nearly every one of the state’s 254 counties.

Last week, photos emerged showing that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz flew to Mexico on Wednesday after losing power at his Houston home — a move he’s since said was “obviously a mistake” — and state Rep. Gary Gates, R-Richmond, traveled to Florida on a private jet.

'His face was in your windshield': South Dakota AG faces impeachment charges as new details of fatal crash emerge
The state attorney general, Jason Ravnsborg, has said he thought he hit a deer, but investigators noted the dead man's glasses were found in his car

PIERRE, S.D. — The South Dakota state attorney general who is facing misdemeanor charges for striking and killing a man is facing impeachment charges and calls to resign after disturbing new details about the case were made public.

The A.G., Jason Ravnsborg, initially told police he'd thought he'd struck a deer in the September, 2020 incident and that he didn't discover he'd hit a person until he return the scene of the accident the next day.

In interviews made public by Gov. Kristi Noem on Tuesday, investigators suggested to Ravnsborg that he should have known better, because the dead man's broken glasses were found inside his Ford Taurus.

"His face was in your windshield, Jason, think about that,” one of the investigators told him in the interview.

The Republican attorney general faces three misdemeanor charges but no felonies in the September death of 55-year-old Joseph Boever.

I read somewhere that he was on a right wing website on his phone at the time of the accident, so I guess it may be plausible that he didn't know he hit a person? It's a stretch though.

Here's the timeline:
According to the report published on the September 12 crash by the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg was distracted while driving on the night that he struck 55-year-old Highmore resident Joseph Boever, who was walking down the shoulder of S.D. Highway 14, holding a flashlight.

The report also states Ravnsborg’s car was on the shoulder when it stuck Boever. Investigators say that due to the presence of Boever’s broken glasses inside Ravnsborg’s car, with one part in the back seat and another on the passenger floor, it appears the victim’s face came through the windshield.

Investigators also say in the recordings of the interviews released by the DPS, Ravnsborg was using his phone in the minutes leading up to the crash. At 10:20 p.m., Ravnborg unlocked his phone. At 10:24 p.m., he called 911 to report that he had hit “something.”

Here is what we know happened in the minutes between.

10:20 p.m.
Investigators say Ravnsborg unlocked his phone and signed into his Yahoo email account.

10:20:49 p.m.
Investigators say phone records show that Ravnsborg was now on Dakota Free Press, a South Dakota political blog.

~10:21 p.m.
Without giving an exact time, investigators say about one minute later Ravnsborg was on Real Clear Politics, a political news website.

~10:22 p.m.
Again, without providing an exact time, investigators say that Ravnsborg was on Just the news, a right-leaning political news site. The article Ravnsborg viewed, according to investigators, was about ‘Riding the Dragon’, a conspiracy documentary about the Biden family’s dealings with China.

10:24 p.m.
Ravnsborg calls 911 to report the crash.

Ravnsborg told investigators that he did not recognize the Just the News website, and that he was not familiar with the ‘Riding the Dragon’ article he had pulled up on his phone.

“I guess I would say I glance at headlines a lot,” said Ravnsborg during the recording. “I don’t read articles when I’m driving.”

S.D. Department of Public Safety releases two interviews conducted with Jason Ravnsborg
In the recordings, investigators tell Ravnsborg that everything they are seeing seems to indicate that he was on his phone, looking at political content at the time of the accident.

Ravnsborg denies this throughout, saying at one point, “But I just wasn’t. I – I set it down. I know I did.”

Ravnsborg is charged with three 2nd degree misdemeanor offences: Operating a vehicle while using a mobile device, driving outside of his lane and careless driving.

A House ethics panel says there is “substantial reason to believe” that Rep. Steven M. Palazzo (R-Miss.) misused his campaign and congressional funds, according to a report made public Monday.

The Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), which produced the 47-page report last summer after a months-long probe, also said that Palazzo “may have performed official actions to assist his brother,” Kyle Palazzo, in potential violation of House rules and federal law.

The probe was prompted by a complaint last March from the nonprofit Campaign Legal Center, which accused Palazzo of using his campaign contributions as a “personal slush fund” through which he paid “himself and his spouse nearly $200,000,” including $60,000 in rent to his own farm.

So can they Duncan Hunter him, or is this just going to be a "That's bad, don't do that again," situation?

What I've noticed in this Trumpkins era is that Republicans really don't have any compunction about saying the quiet part out loud anymore. I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

But in the grand scheme of things with this hearing, does this admission really change how the justices will vote? If they feel that gaming the voting laws to increase Republican chances and decrease Democrat chances is Constitutional, then this question is really just window dressing.

Oklahoma House Passed Bill to Let State Declare Biden Executive Orders Unconstitutional
By Daniel Villarreal On 3/2/21 at 12:25 AM EST
The Oklahoma state House has passed a bill that would allow the state attorney general and legislature to declare federal laws and executive orders issued under Democratic President Joe Biden as unconstitutional.

The bill, HB 1236, would allow the Oklahoma attorney general to review any executive orders, congressional laws or federal agency rules to see if they violate the U.S. Constitution. If the attorney general doesn't oppose them, then the state legislature could do so through a majority vote.

The bill was approved last week through an 80-14 vote in the Republican-led state House. Republican Senate Majority Floor Leader Kim David has not publicly said whether she supports the measure, according to KOCO.

The bill's author, Republican Representative Mark McBride, said that he created the bill not because of Biden's political party but rather because of the high number of executive orders Biden has issued just one month into his presidency.

If his face went through the windshield, did the son of a bitch have to pull the victim's body out before he continued on?

Also, throw the key away.

Jim Jordan playing fast and loose with campaign cash rules?! Say it ain't so! At least the FEC is effectively toothless these days and nothing will happen. Whew, close one Jim!
Jim Jordan Under Scrutiny for Nearly $3 Million in Unreported Campaign Funds
OOPS
“Jordan's campaign appears to have had systemic reporting problems over multiple years,” Brendan Fischer, director of reform at the Campaign Legal Center, told the Daily Beast.

This week, the campaign committee for Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), received ten notices from the Federal Election Commission flagging discrepancies on its books totaling nearly $3 million dollars, and dating back over two years. The campaign claims that the errors slipped through the cracks amid a record fundraising surge, and that it actually has more money on the books now, but experts say that the dollar amount — errors totaling some $2.87 million — may trigger an FEC investigation.

The errors also appear connected to newly developed, largely hidden payment systems in the murky world of Republican digital advertising, where vendors not only receive direct spending, but take cuts from fundraising as well.

The notices, sent in batches between Feb 28 and March 2, come in reply to more than a dozen amended reports correcting errors that the campaign caught in a sweeping review of filings, going as far back as 2018. One of the filings discloses errors in spending and raising totalling $1,470,286.48.

The commission gave the campaign until early April to reply, and the letters say that a failure to “adequately respond” could draw an audit or enforcement action.

Campaign spokesperson Kevin Eichinger provided the Daily Beast with a statement spinning the corrections as a positive sign and laying the blame on the campaign’s longtime treasurer, Ohio-based tax and business law specialist James Kordik, who was replaced when Jordan hired Datwyler last July.

I don't think it's a stretch to think this guy is a republican.

Washington (CNN)The top State Department diplomatic security official in Afghanistan was removed from his role for declaring the "death of America" and making racist comments about Kamala Harris in a post on his Facebook page when President Donald Trump lost November's presidential election, according to four sources familiar with the matter.

"Sad day in American history. A fraudulent election that ushered in a senile idiot and a woman that claims to be black, but she's not," Nick Sabruno wrote in a post reviewed by CNN. "Your (sic) witnessing the death of America as we know it and just standby as all our freedoms are eroded."

After he learned about the post, the acting US ambassador in Afghanistan, Ross Wilson, declared that he had lost confidence in Sabruno and he was sent back to Washington, according to the sources familiar with the matter.

He still works at the State Department but is not currently assigned to a specific role or office, three sources familiar with the matter said.

First off, I would be more ok with Biden going back on that pledge (was it really a pledge? Needs verification) than to have schools open unsafely. Second, IT’S BEEN 44 DAYS. NOT 100. How can you say he failed to do something within 100 days if you are only 44 days in?

He’s emBarrassoIng.
