Oh, sure, that's not what I'm saying.

But can any of the lawyers we know, who are wonderful people, no doubt, but can they create a Universe by lighting the fuse on a Big Bang? Even if you gave them a Big Matchbook? Can they create laws of physics and chemistry and quantum mechanics? Can they create scallops and vanilla beans and almonds and butterflies and giraffes?

Potato chips, OK. Did you know Laura Scudder was a lawyer? Lawyers can make potato chips, but nobody really worships Laura Scudder. :talktothehand:

Lawgivers, sure. But lots of legislators are not lawyers. Hammurabi was not a lawyer. :nope: Or a god, but he was the original lawgiver, dang his hide.

So anyway, gods seem to make a lot of laws, but none of them are really lawyers.

Things that make ya go hmm.
Some of those gods relegate the numerous positions of Judge to the mere plain folk. It lets them feel like they are more religious.

Bill and Melinda Gates are ending their marriage after 27 years, the pair announced in a statement on their verified Twitter accounts.

"After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage," the statement reads.
The couple founded their philanthropic organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, together in 2000. Since then, the foundation has spent $53.8 billion on a wide range of initiatives related to global health, poverty alleviation and more, according to its website.
"We have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives," the statement says. "We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives."

This is kind of surprising to me. Yeah, I know a PR firm is writing the releases, but still. I'm glad they will still continue the Foundation's work together (according the PR firm's release).

In the meantime, my vaccination with Bill's nanotech has not improved my wifi. Do I need to wait for jab #2? :oldman:

I was surprised, too. I saw them on the news on Sunday and thought they've been together a long time. Next morning, the divorce announcement.

They'll both survive quite nicely together or apart. It was interesting to see that there was no pre-nup.

“Idaho legislative intern reports rape, is ID’d by lawmaker”:

“BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The harassment began soon after a report by a 19-year-old intern, who alleged an Idaho lawmaker raped her, became public.
One state representative sought a copy of the police report and made inquiries into how the young woman herself could be referred for criminal charges for reporting the alleged rape.
Another shared links to a far-right blog post that included the intern’s name, photo and personal details about her life with thousands of people in a newsletter and on social media.
And members of a far-right, anti-government activist group tried to follow and harass the young woman after she was called to testify in a legislative public ethics hearing.”

She made it to 30 weeks! I'm shocked!!

From the link, below the main article:
But most commonly in Africa fertility drugs are prescribed when a woman comes off a hormonal form of contraceptive as she can find that it takes a while to ovulate again, Dr Kalumi says.

This can then result in the release of several eggs, instead of one, during a woman's monthly cycle.
The mother is 25 and has another child. I suspect she was given a fertility drug not to deal with infertility, but to get her ovulating soon after stopping hormonal birth control. Ovulation can takes months to restore after using hormonal birth control.

ETA: doctor's don't transplant more than 2-3 embryos during IVF anymore. They want as few multiple births as possible.

Josh Duggar granted release as he awaits child porn trial
https://apnews.com/article/josh-duggar- ... 15fac0177e
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A federal judge on Wednesday allowed former reality TV star Josh Duggar to be released as he awaits trial on charges that he downloaded and possessed child pornography.

Magistrate Judge Christy Comstock ordered Duggar, 33, confined to the home of family friends who have agreed to be his custodian during his release and prohibited Duggar from any Internet-accessible devices pending his July 6 trial on the child pornography charges.

Duggar was indicted on the federal child pornography charges on Friday, a day after U.S. Marshals arrested him. He has pleaded not guilty.

“I have full confidence in the United States Marshal Service to find you if you decide not to comply with these conditions of release, so don’t make me regret this decision,” Comstock said after a four-hour hearing conducted over Zoom.

“You won’t, your honor, thank you very much,” responded Duggar.
:snippity:
“He has shown the court he has a history dating back 20 years that shows a sexual attraction to children and the deviousness of his activity,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Carly Marshall said.

Comstock said that, during his release, Duggar could have contact with his children only with his wife present. But the judge said Duggar could not be around any other minors, including other family members. :snippity:

(do we have a Fox News thread?)

Geraldo Rivera gets schooled on Twitter after accusing Facebook of violating Trump’s ‘Constitutionally guaranteed Freedom of Speech’
https://www.nydailynews.com/news/nation ... story.html
Fox News correspondent and law school graduate Geraldo Rivera is accusing Facebook of denying Donald Trump his constitutional rights. Twitter spoke freely about the mustached pundit’s understanding of the First Amendment.

“Facebook is full of s--t,” Rivera tweeted after the social media platform decided to uphold its suspension of the 45th president’s account following the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol.

Trump had used his social media platforms to falsely convince loyalists that he had won the 2020 presidential election.

“Althought (sic) cloaked in pomposity, banning #DonaldTrump -- when it allows every knucklehead in the world to post whatever/whenever -- is a clear violation of former president’s Constitutionally guaranteed Freedom of Speech,” Rivera tweeted
.

Replies came fast and furious, reminding Rivera that the Constitution says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.”

As noted by many people who responded to Rivera’s tweet, nowhere does the Constitution say the government can tell companies what they must publish.

Following Rivera's logic, if the Constitution guarantees people rights, and if corporations are people, and now according to Rivera corporations are government, then we've come full circle: Governments are people.

Stay away from the booze Gerry. We're all getting a headache.

Duggar is in deep, deep doo doo. I am not able to copy and past parts of this article, but the doo-dooeyest parts are that when Feds raided his car lot in 2019, he yelled put, "whose been downloading child porn", seemingly as a joke. The Fed found he used a work-around browers to access the dark web for child porn, and on his computer was a Christian program called "Covenant Eyes". Supposed to keep you from looking at porn. 🤪

Edit: And to be honest, I don't think I've ever really thought of the word asshole as nongender. I would never call a woman an asshole, but maybe that's just me.
Edit: And it's possible to be demeaning to women using words that I can't possibly censor, e.g. "all women are stupid idiots". People just have to watch what they're saying and think about things.
I've always considered the term "asshole" as applicable to anyone that has one, regardless of gender or leg count.
