I'm getting it now. I've had rain on and off pretty much all day and had outer bands yesterday. Right now I can hear rumbling in the distance and the rain is coming down in a steady but not terribly hard amount. But I've had virtually no wind. It's kinda nice to be inland right now.
There's a lot of things that need to change. One specifically? Police brutality.

Health warnings as Death Valley scorches in 54.4C heat
Severity of hot spell in western US underlines dangerous impact of human-caused climate disruption

Jonathan Watts
Mon 12 Jul 2021 19.53 BST

Excessive heat warnings remained in place across swathes of the western US on Monday after Death Valley in California registered what could prove to be the highest reliably recorded temperature on Earth.

After a cascade of record heatwaves in Canada, north-west US, northern Europe and Siberia, the severity of the hot spell has underlined the dangerous impact of human-caused climate disruption and prompted scientists to consider whether computer models may have underestimated the impacts.

The US National Weather Service measured the temperature at Furnace Creek in Death Valley on Saturday at 54.4C (130F). If confirmed, this would equal the record set at the same place last year and rival slightly higher measurements made more than 100 years ago when equipment was less precise.

Farmworkers stack boxes of melons on a mobile platform in Firebaugh, California, where temperatures are expected to surpass 110 degrees.
In California’s interior, there’s no escape from the desperate heat: ‘Why are we even here?’

The heat spike was protracted as well as steep. For three days in a row, Furnace Creek sweltered in maximum temperatures of over 53.3C. There was little respite at night where the lows never fell below 32C.

BERLIN (AP) — Emergency workers in western German and Belgium rushed Friday to rescue hundreds of people in danger or still unaccounted for as the death toll from devastating floods rose to more than 120 people.

Authorities in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate said 63 people had died there, including 12 residents of an assisted living facility for disabled people in the town of Sinzig who were surprised by a sudden rush of water from the nearby Ahr River. In neighboring North Rhine-Westphalia state officials put the death toll at 43, but warned that the figure could increase.

I didn't put up news items over the last several days on this, Germany was hit massive, it is unprecedented that whole houses get swept away, never seen a report where a whole section of a village got eradicated. In Switzerland several small creeks did rise to rivers sweeping thru villages. In Switzerland the various lakes have reached their buffering capacities and are now overflowing, and the river systems are overflowing the dams.

Devastation from floods spreads in Germany and Belgium, with hundreds missing.

Rescue workers toiled on Friday night to reach people in remote German villages hit by some of the most severe flooding Europe had experienced in decades, as questions began to be raised about lapses in the country’s elaborate flood warning system.

The scenes of devastation from the floods came from all around Western Europe as the death toll passed 125 on Friday, with another 1,300 people still missing. Roads buckled and washed away. Cars piled atop one another. Houses were inundated to the roof tiles. Frightened residents were being evacuated in the shovels of earth movers.

But nowhere was affected more than Germany, where hundreds were still unaccounted for and the death toll had reached 106 and was expected to rise as rescue workers combed through the debris. At least 20 were reported dead in Belgium.

A European weather agency had issued an “extreme” flood warning after detailed models showed storms that threatened to send rivers surging to levels that a German meteorologist said on Friday had not been seen in 500 or even 1,000 years.

German officials said Friday their warning system, which includes a network of sensors that measure river levels in real time, functioned as it was supposed to. The problem, they said, was an amount of rain they had never seen before — falling so rapidly that it engorged even small streams and rivers not normally considered threats.

Hundreds Missing and Scores Dead as Raging Floods Strike Western Europe
Strong rains caused rivers to burst their banks and wash away buildings in Belgium and Germany, where at least 1,300 remained missing. Homes and streets in the Netherlands and Switzerland also flooded.

By Melissa Eddy
Published July 15, 2021 Updated July 16, 2021

BERLIN — Following a day of frantic rescue efforts and orders to evacuate towns rapidly filling with water unloosed by violent storms, the German authorities said late Thursday that after confirming scores of deaths, they were unable to account for at least 1,300 people.

That staggering figure was announced after swift-moving water from swollen rivers surged through cities and villages in two western German states, where the death toll passed 90 on Friday in the hardest-hit regions and other fatalities were expected.

With communication badly hampered, the authorities were hoping that the missing people were safe, if unreachable. But the storms and the floods have already proved deadly.

At least 11 more people were reported to have died in Belgium, according to authorities who also ordered inhabitants of downtown Liège to evacuate as the Meuse River, which flows through its center, overflowed its banks.

The storms and resulting high water also battered neighboring Switzerland, the Netherlands and Luxembourg as a slow-moving weather system threatened to dump even more rain on the inundated region overnight and into Friday.

Disastrous Flooding Submerges Areas of Salzburg, Austria
Mon, July 19, 2021, 8:45 PM

Heavy rainfall brought severe flooding to enclaves of Mittersill in Salzburg, Austria, on July 19.

Volunteers worked “around the clock” to put up sandbags in Mittersill after the flooding reached dangerous levels, according to local news reports.

This aerial footage taken by Daniel Kogler shows the area’s iconic hills towering above floodwater and parts of the town underwater.

Water restrictions in place amid 'urgent appeal' to public to conserve supply
Amy Blaney 6 hrs

Water restrictions have been introduced in places across the country today as temperatures soar to Mediterranean levels.

Irish Water are appealing to the public to conserve water to ensure a consistent supply during the current spell of scorching weather.

Night restrictions and “urgent appeals” for water conservation have been put in place for Laois, Kerry, Wexford, Dublin, Meath and Donegal to ensure a consistent day time supply.

Irish Water said, “While the public are being asked to conserve, there are currently no plans to implement a Water Conservation Order.”

Irish Water have seen an increase in domestic and commercial demand for water which is expected to continue into the week, and have put emphasis on water conservation in tourist hotspots and on farms.

In Dublin, some areas may be impacted by low water pressure or outages until 10am tomorrow. These areas include, Garristown, Ballymadun, Tobergregan, Baldwinstown, Palmerstown and surrounding areas.

Some of the recommended ways to conserve water include taking shorter showers, avoid using paddling pools, and if you need to wash a car, use a bucket and sponge instead of hose.

People are advised to use a rose head watering cans in the garden instead of hose, fix dripping taps or leaking toilets, turn off the tap when brushing teeth, and reuse water collected from baths, showers and hand basins.

Tom Cuddy, Irish Water’s Head of Asset Operations, said: “As demand increases we are appealing to the public to redouble their efforts in conserving water in the home, in the garden, at work and on the farm, especially during the busy months of July and August.

“This applies particularly to tourist hotspots in popular coastal regions and tourist destinations throughout the country of which we are lucky to have so many and where large influxes of visitors are expected.

“As rivers, lakes and groundwater levels reduce through the summer and autumn period, there is less water available for supply, while at the same time the warmer weather gives rise to increased water demands for domestic, agricultural and leisure uses.

Irish Water said it been monitoring all of its raw water sources, that is the water from lakes, rivers, springs and ground sources that feed into water treatment plants around the country.
The weather has been incredibly hot the past week or so. it hit 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and water restrictions are in place. Or course the usual idiots are out complaining it rains all the time so how are we low on water. Fact is, it does NOT rain a massive amount in Ireland compared to other places, particularly during the summer, and things are getting worse.

These are the water restrictions in my area. I live in Newcastle West.

It's so hot they have cancelled filming until Wednesday. I can't even imagine how much that's costing them. Our heat index has been hovering around 110-112 for several days with 75+% humidity. The entire state is melting.

Another day, another severe weather threat forecast. I have had quite enough of these. We are in August now, not June/July.

Potential 105 heat index is also annoying me.

We have had three weeks without any appreciable rain, one of the longest streaks on record here, but today we are getting severe storms. We had a bad one with lots of thunder this morning, and now there's a new line of severe thunderstorms just starting. Today was a farmer's market day, but I think I'll just stay home.

Had some rain a couple of days ago. .77 according to the NWS web page I visit. A farmer lost the roof on his chicken coop and they said it was a tornado. No other damage was reported anywhere else in that vicinity. Not even trees. I'm leery of weather spotters who go out looking for something and then decide they've found what they were looking for. The .77 was a relief. The corn and beans just might make it this year after all.
