A journeyman actor, but every time I saw him I heard him squeal.

Awwwwww. Just last week we finished up watching all four seasons of WKRP. It has held up well, the first two seasons are definitely the best, but Herb was priceless in every one. I still giggle when Venus made a crack about his suit being made from Volkswagen seat covers. (he really did have one, although not clear if it was that one. But Wardrobe made him one.) It's not easy making such a despicable character vulnerable, even lovable, but Mr. Bonner did it.
The character of Herb Tarlek was known for wearing very tacky suits. In one episode, when Herb wears a particularly outrageous suit, Venus Flytrap remarks, "Somewhere out there there's a Volkswagen with no seats." One of Herb's suits was actually made from the seat covers of an old Volkswagen. 74 of 77 found this interesting

CNN showed a clip from a 2015 60 minute interview that had Biden interacting with Champ :lovestruck:

WaPo has an article about Champ. The comments - which usually stink - are very sweet. Lots of tears, memories of beloved companions. For example, "My heart goes out to the Biden family for the loss of Champ. If you’re an animal lover like I am, I’m sure there were more than a few tears flowing Saturday. Champ held on until his favorite companion came home from overseas trip. I’m glad they had the chance to be together one last time here. 💙"

I'm not crying. You're crying.

Extra hugs for Ted today. Just over a year ago, it looked very bad for him. His immune system was destroying blood platelets, but the vet kept trying one medicine after another. It's under control now. <whew>

In honor of Champ, we went for a RIDE! IN THE CAR!!!! Stopped at a Thai restaurant for iced coffee for me and pork & veggie rolls for both of us. Ted likes Thai food. Then we went to Big Dog Park with my folding camp chair & egg rolls and had a peaceful, happy afternoon. I haven't told him yet that I'll be working at home except 2 days/month until I retire. :shh: It's a surprise.

Ted is going to be so happy. I'm still waiting for official word on how often we will be required to work in the office. Supposedly it will only be a couple times per month, but I'm not counting on it until I get the official word. My supervisor is not known for being good at the game of "telephone".

Don't forget the cheapest war he fought in Iraq, and all those roses he promised for US soldiers :blackeye:

The US reaction to 9/11 is probably the worse thing I've seen in my lifetime, even worse than nixon getting pardoned. I still can't figure out what he got pardoned for since he never faced trial or was convicted of anything.

There was a huge error of judgment when GWB, Cheney a.o. turned a policing action against the fugitive Osama bin Laden into some misunderstood job of "bringing democracy to Afghanistan", and trying to extend the war on drugs into a foreign nation not under their control.

The operation to take OBL out would have involved 3 helicopter crews (2 cover, one extraction), CAP from one carrier, and a dozen on-the-ground operators and about 48 hours after the target was pin-pointed.

The farkwits of shrub's admin have sunk us into 2 twenty year wars that the US couldn't win nor even break even. We destabilized Iraq, got sucked into Afghanistan (which hasn't been actually subjected by anyone in 3,000+ years, not even Alexander The Great) and spent 6+ trillion dollars on with no hope of a positive outcome.

It is obscene on levels not seen in human history.

Trying to recall what happened two decades ago, and I seem to remember that's what initially happened. The problem was, OBL had already left Kabul for the mountains. The intelligence the US had was not current. The raid killed several of the governments ministers of the time including their families. The one failure of GWB et al. was that they did not understand the Afghan tribal culture. OBL had married a daughter of the then president. Tribal protection was extended to him. After that initial failure the US made the next bad step in setting up a base in an attempt to hunt OBL down in the mountains of Tora Bora. They didn't succeed while bombing the mountains to rubble.
