Senior officials met at White House after reports of missile strike in Saudi Arabia

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/senior-off ... d=69278294
Senior officials met at the White House Wednesday night after reports of a missile strike in Saudi Arabia, a White House official confirmed to CBS News. Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed President Trump had been briefed on the situation, and said the White House is "closely monitoring" it.

Yemen's Iran-allied Houthis said earlier they had struck a power station in Al-Shuqaiq city, in the Saudi province of Jizan, Reuters reported.

The strike comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. The U.S. is blaming Iran for attacking two oil tankers targeted in the Strait of Hormuz last week, but Iran has denied any involvement. A U.S. Navy expert told reporters on Wednesday the limpet mines used bore "a striking resemblance" to similar mines displayed by Iran.

Iran said it shot down a U.S. drone. A state-run news outlet in Iran said that the drone had flown over Iranian territory unauthorized.

The U.S. military disputed the accusation that it had violated Iranian airspace, but not the loss of a drone.

Top US official refuses to say if Trump has authority to strike Iran after Pompeo lays out 'red line'

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/top-us- ... itter_abcn
Passed three days after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, the AUMF provides the executive branch with broad authority to use force "against those nations, organizations, or persons" that it determines "planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks" on Sept. 11, "or harbored such organizations or persons."

There have been growing concerns that the administration may cite connections between Iran and al-Qaeda to justify military strikes, even though some doubt how strong those ties currently are.

When asked repeatedly about that, Hook declined to answer, instead telling Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., "If the use of military force is necessary to defend U.S. national security interest, we will do everything that we are required to do with respect to congressional war powers, and we will comply with the law."

Have they forgotten that a lot of people know that Iran is Shia, and al Qaeda is (was?) Sunni?

The idea that they would work together is patently absurd.

They only meet now cause of the tanker incident? How about that successful Houthi attack on a Saudi airport ten days ago? Or that attack several months back that hit Riad streets?

Just an IMHO more than ever I believe the tanker attack was by the Houthi. I believe they first attached some mines, then on retreat shot the tankers with standard rocket propelled grenades. This would account for crews reporting of seeing flying projectiles. Also hits being above the waterline with limited damage to the hull where they got hit.

Trump And Mike Pompeo Are WEAPONS-GRADE Lying About Iran Right Now. GET MAD.

Ms. Slotkin, a former C.I.A. analyst and Pentagon official who has worked in Iraq, added, "Any of us working on national security should be looking at any talk of ties between senior Iranian leaders and Al Qaeda with a real skeptical eye."
Uh yeah.

Apparently this particular drumbeat has been going on for a few weeks. Slotkin said Pompeo mentioned Al Qaeda's well known BFF status with Iran (bullshit) on May 21. He said the same thing in testimony to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee back in April. And the Times says Pentagon officials briefed congressional aides on Monday and felt the need to tell that lie.

But why would they all be fucking this chicken? Could it perhaps be because everybody knows that if the Trump administration is breathing, it is lying, and that the Democratic House would never ever vote to let John Bolton lead President Dumbfuck into a war with Iran, not in a fucking million years, not if they had stepped on a crack and broken their mother's back and the only way to put her back together again was to murder Iran with bombs? Yes, that could be the reason why they're trying to come up with bullshit reasons why the AUMF (authorization of military force) Congress voted for in 2001 after 9/11 applies to ... IRAN! You know, the country we're having tension with right now mostly and primarily because President Dumbfuck pulled us out of the Iran nuclear agreement.

As for the Bullshitter-In-Chief, a truly heroic reporter asked him a truly heroic question about Iran on Tuesday. From the White House transcript:

Q Why should Americans trust your administration to tell the truth about what's going on with Iran? If we go to war, why should we believe you if you say why?
Thank God, it was about time a reporter called that motherfucker a liar to his face.
