International computer aided Scams

I couldn't think of a better topic title for this. This is a video where this guy works out how people are scammed, explains how the scam works and then turns the tables on the scammers.

The scam is fiendishly clever, and I could see any person of reasonable intelligence falling for it. This video is well worth your time.

My mother (who is 90) called me in tears the other day - she had gotten 7 calls in a row from the Amazon scammers. The caller ID was different for each but it was the exact same message. Thankfully, she won't answer the phone if she doesn't know the caller, but she was so frustrated!

I love the glitter bomb - I've seen an earlier video this guy setting up a booby trap to glitter bomb a porch pirate.

I might support him by buying a wireframe t-shirt. That was really well done.

Plus I like his workshop. A lot. :batting:

The entire video series is pretty dayum funny and I am glad they actually expose the schemes, tricks and tactics used to catch them, shut down their computer files and attempt to help a couple of people get their money back.

My aunt is 82. A couple of months ago she received a call that her Medicare Card was due to expire and she needed to update it! Then she began to receive calls that her doctor had prescribed a back brace and knee braces. Unfortunately, this was before I became aware of the calls. She is now inundated with scam calls.

I have collected all the information and the packing slips from the crap sent to her and am trying to create a timeline to send the info to the AG here in Ohio.

She was also talked into a ridiculously expensive cell phone ($750) and internet package from Verizon to the tune of $171/month. She doesn't even know how to answer her cell phone and uses it to play Solitaire. I cant get her out of the two-year contract.

I hate these people.

A variant of a scam, similar to the Indian one where they pretend to overpay a refund and ask you to return the difference in some monetary form.
