Space Force commander fired after comments made on conservative podcast

Lt. Col. Matthew Lohmeier joined The Steve Gruber show to discuss his new book, "Irresistible Revolution: Marxism's Goal of Conquest & the Unmaking of the American Military," which alleges that Marxist ideologies are becoming widespread within the armed forces. He expounded on those concerns in the podcast.
"Since taking command as a commander about 10 months ago, I saw what I consider fundamentally incompatible and competing narratives of what America was, is and should be," Lohmeier said. "That wasn't just prolific in social media, or throughout the country during this past year, but it was spreading throughout the United States military. And I had recognized those narratives as being Marxist in nature."

When pressed on what exactly he meant, Lohmeier decried the New York Times 1619 Project, a historical look at how slavery formed America's institutions, as "anti-American."

"It teaches intensive teaching that I heard at my base -- that at the time the country ratified the United States Constitution, it codified White supremacy as the law of the land," Lohmeier said. "If you want to disagree with that, then you start (being) labeled all manner of things including racist."

Another defense official said the investigation would also look at all elements of rules and policy by which the book was published. It is not clear whether Lohmeier consulted his chain of command before publishing. A blurb about the book on Amazon described it as a "timely and bold contribution from an active-duty Space Force lieutenant colonel who sees the impact of a new-Marxist agenda at the ground level within our armed forces."

Where has the public education system left America? What happened to the education system for officers in the US forces? Was the GWB act "No Child Left Behind" too late to catch up with this guy?

Can we please stop blaming the education system for people who choose to act like entitled racist assholes? Schools teach these things and have for years, but many people walk out and remember only what they want to (or need to for their job). This idiot is a Lieutenant Colonel. He has had more education than just K-12 (US Air Force Academy, 2006). And I should mention, Corsi went to Harvard.

If we remember back to the 60s and the desegregation movement (i.e. desegregating schools), we might remember all those white protestors with their sign that said: "Race Mixing is Communism." Those who are feeling threatened by the loss of their white privilege, which pointing out that the founders were slave owners and saw Africans as a lesser species tends to do, fall back on the old racist argument. Equality is Marxism. To not allow them to maintain a country where the white race (or "western culture") is superior to others means the government is restricting freedom, hence, communism.

Back on the education point, the fact that there is a 1619 project and that BLM is getting a great deal of support among many people of all races (and a fair amount of young people) may show that our education is getting better as it always has. Attempting to bring those children with parents who are attached to their racism and may also have a long dislike for schooling will always be a challenge (if you plant corn you get corn) but the schools keep trying.

I mostly agree with your sentiment, but want to point out that one of the big problems with the US education system is how inconsistent it is. What you learn about and what history gets skipped over is luck of the geographical draw.

There is that and, having been a teacher, I would agree there is always plenty to fix (stop the teach to the test is the first). I will also say, and I saw this happening even in a poor rural school, that the kids get to subjects we would not have dreamed of when we were their age.

One difficulty with inconsistency is that education is a community endeavor, not a product that you can engineer to produce consistent results. Your raw material changes daily and is educated as much by their community and their family as by the school. Plus, being a community endeavor, you have a huge range of diverse communities with different opinions on everything.

We also had a few militia adherents in our community. They did not improve my opinions of the militia movement, in fact, they made it worse.

I’d love to see him define “Marxist.” These wingnuts throw around terms like Marxist, Socialist, Communist and Leftist willy-nilly, with no regard for their actual meanings.

My observation of the reaction to my post above, is that the usage of the term "communist" has skewed in US American English. While here on the Old Continent the term relates directly to the philosophy defined by Karl Marx and adopted to seveal European polical systems. In the US it seems to have detoriated into a word designating political left, not even far left, and associated with anything that deviates from the American ideal of democracy (as seen thru tinted right-wing glasses). In my observation it lives on the virtual hate of "communism" post-WW2 and fears instilled by McCarthyism. While Russia and more recently China have the ability to physically destruct the North American continent they never had the capability to seriously invade the continent. The American public forgets the size of the landmass and the population count. While at the same time they think it's a Sunday stroll to pick countries like Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq or Iran. :cantlook:

*nod* for decades it was just the placeholder for 'the enemy' or 'against your values'.. to today, for the right for anything that feels like an existential threat.

I'm confused.

The Space Force was touted as a sixth branch of the US military, and it is commanded by a Lt. Colonel? Not even a one-star general?

Is the SF really a separate branch, or is it just a sub-group within the Air Force? That almost makes more sense, given that we have no capability of launching any real force into space at the moment.

Commander here is used to refer to a unit commander, the article title should start with "A". Either poor editing or blatant attempt to sensationalize.

Space Force [should be called Astra Militarus] is a department of the USAF, same way that the USMC is a department on the Navy [the men's department that is!].

I have mixed feeling about all of this.

I’m not sad that the guy was relieved of command. He was relieved for “loss of confidence” by the higher commander, whose discretion is pretty much unfettered. Dude’s claims about “critical race theory” suggest that he might treat POC as less-than, and is plenty of reason for relief for cause.

I have mixed feelings about the First Amendment implications. The military pays lip service to the notion that a servicemember doesn’t check his rights at the gate when he enters the military, but there are many, many restrictions on what otherwise-protected behaviors servicemembers can engage in. Some of those restrictions are actually punitive.

This guy’s an ignorant asshole. I’m glad he was relieved. I wouldn’t be terribly broken-hearted if the SF booted him out through an administrative proceeding. But I’d hate to see him with a felony conviction on his record just for saying what he thought, no matter how stupid or misguided.

‘We’re the Space Force from on high’: The newest U.S. military branch gets its official song

The Space Force adopted an official song on Tuesday, according to a press release from the newest U.S. military branch. The song, “Semper Supra,” was unveiled during the Air & Space Forces Association’s Air, Space and Cyber Conference, the announcement said. The song title is derived from the U.S. Space Force’s motto, “Always Above,” and like the official songs of the other U.S. military branches, reflects the values and traditions of the Space Force.

Former U.S. Air Force band member James Teachenor began working with Chief of Space Operations Gen. Jay Raymond to create the song’s lyrics and melody when the branch was formed in 2019. “The song was a long work in progress because I wanted it to encompass all the capabilities that the Space Force offers and its vision,” Teachenor said. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to establish a Space Force song that will be part of our culture and heritage for years to come,” Raymond said. “Our traditions are part of the fabric that weave us all together as we execute our missions side-by-side; I will be proud to sing ‘Semper Supra’ alongside my fellow Guardians.”

From the moment former president Donald Trump created the new military wing tasked with defending military satellites and operating the network of GPS satellites, the Space Force has piqued the public’s imagination (and incredulity), even inspiring the creation of a Netflix parody of the same name. Despite the jokes and memes, the Space Force has several serious defense duties, from alerting troops to incoming missiles to jamming transmissions of enemy satellites.

Read the lyrics below:

We’re the mighty watchful eye,

Guardians beyond the blue,

The invisible front line,

Warfighters brave and true.

Boldly reaching into space,

There’s no limit to our sky.

Standing guard both night and day,

We’re the Space Force from on high.

That tune is such a piece of trash. I mean, maybe for brass quintet without the dopey lyrics, but still.

It's such a dud nobody's even talking about it on YouTube. There were hundreds of videos when that CPAC girl went horribly wrong with the National Anthem. Even Jack Murphy's cuck video got more traction. This is terrible news for them, didn't they test this? Yuck.

These kids in Miami did a better job.

Our hope is to get this song to the Pentagon and the White House for official adoption and eventually into outer space for the men and women who will serve in the far beyond. You can help us by sharing this video with members of the military, the Space Force and leaders in government. You can also donate to our crowdfunding campaign as we intend to move to phase 2 of the project.

Help us further develop the project!
