The only desert we've seen in Australia was around Alice Springs and Uluru. The hills and mountains are missing in this, but it's still pretty.

Yeah many years ago before they extended the line to Darwin.

We have silly tales about that trip too.

Yeah, I'm a desert rat I understand "desertness". There is plenty to see out there. My remarks were in jest, but not everyone can see it.

And yeah, we ain't nowhere the Null Arbor yet!

I've done both, Indian -Pacific and the Ghan. Enjoyed both immensely. Really liked my single compartment room on the Indian Pacific. Met fun people in the lounge (Australians who had visited my little home town in central Oregon). Great trains to be on to watch Australia go by.

I'm replacing this odd shaped bit of decking that rotted away.

Using 'EcoWood' for the deck, which is recycled plastic and bamboo I think.

The frame is done except for the two supports in the middle which is proudly overengineering but I ain't messing around this time.

I have placed the first deck board so you get a sense of what's happening.

No I haven't, I'm on my phone and can't figure out how to get the foto there right now. I gotta go finish before the 30 people come by to watch the melbourne cup tomorrow

The Melbourne Cup! Just for fun, I googed around a bit. Oz loves horse racing. That's cool. 8-)

The desert photos remind me of the high plains desert of Eastern Oregon and Idaho. Beautiful in it's own way. but fifty miles to nowhere in all directions. Your car better have plenty of fuel and be in tip top shape, or you aren't making it.
