Hasn't really changed that I can see.
Well, that will go well.
They've got it covered.
Please pray an Ave Maria (Hail Mary) for the health of our students, faculty, staff, and the entire AMU community.

This is the same law school that graduated noted constitutional expert KrisAnne Hall, who got fired from every lawyerin' job she ever had (none of which actually has anything to do with ConLaw). She's the one that travels the country giving lectures to people who pass the hat and give her some leftover nickels from the Social Security checks, kind of like Gavin the Loser used to do as a "liberty speaker." Last I heard, a couple years ago, she was trying to raise a few grand to get a car for her tour that didn't have 250,000 miles on it.

I can't recall if AMU is the worst law school in America or merely bottom 10.

"On June 16, 2021, Ave Maria University announced the following COVID-19 protocols for returning to campus for the fall semester.
:snippity:
Policy updated on Aug 5, 2021. Still very bad.
Since that communication, the number of cases in the state of Florida and the United States as a whole has taken a significant uptick. As we continue to monitor the situation, the following measures have been adopted to ensure the safety of the entire AMU community. Cooperation with these measures is greatly encouraged and appreciated.

Pre-Arrival

If a student is sick, displays symptoms of COVID-19, or has tested positive prior to arriving on campus, please stay home until:

-at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared

-at least 24 hours with no fever without fever-reducing medication.

Students arriving late due to illness should contact the Office of Residence Life at covid.management@avemaria.edu.

On Campus

Students in need of a health evaluation can seek medical advice from any local doctor’s office or clinic. Currently, Lee County is offering FREE 24-hour telehealth.

Students can do pre-COVID-19 screening through this service to determine if testing or other care is needed.

-Students, faculty, or staff displaying symptoms of COVID-19 can get a rapid Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test at the Braden Clinic, located at 5068 Annunciation Circle (Suite 111) in Ave Maria www.bradenclinic.com Due to a partnership between AMU and the Braden Clinic, these tests will be offered for FREE! A valid University ID card will be required.

-Students who are symptomatic should contact a medical professional, refrain from attending class or work, and self-isolate in their room.

If a student tests positive for COVID-19, they are expected to follow CDC guidelines for isolating in their residence until:

-at least 10 days since symptoms first appeared
at least 24 hours with no fever without fever-reducing medication

-Students rooming with a person who tests positive for COVID-19 may be able to move to a room in Xavier Hall during the isolation period if a room is available. Space is limited.
:snippity:
No mask mandate. No vaccine mandate. No testing requirement. No daily self-check.

Oh, and if your roomie is such and there is enough space in Xavier Hall, you can get away from your roomie. Maybe. 'Cause space is limited!

Because ... Florida.

Indeed. I suppose we hoped that "teachers" would be better informed/smarter/less Trumpy than the population of a given area. Not so, I guess. Sadly.
Teachers are not necessarily better informed. A Facebook friend, a teacher, posted last night about how after the Korean War, Korea was broken up with South Korea being capitalist and North Korea being socialist. I can't get the utter stupidity of that out of my head. :brickwallsmall:  :crying:
I've seen more than a teacher or two in my lifetime who knew their specialty well, but were absolutely clueless in other areas. When someone tells me they are a teacher, my first question is "what subjects do you teach?" Few teachers talk shop when in social circles and I don't give any extra weight to what they say when I know they're pontificating about something they know little about.

Ya it's very much "up to you whether you do anything about Covid on Campus," Which is pretty much no guidance at all. The one positive thing I can see in all that is that they are offering Covid Tests for free.

They need to speed pray the rosary...just like my grandma used to listen to on the radio on Sundays.

Of course it sounded similar to the horse racing call my grandfather would listen to later in the afternoon... :smoking:

Speed pray, huh? They didn't teach that in Arkansas. Too many German Catholics here, I being one.

We need to play DeSantis against tfg and destroy the party. tfg can’t handle someone else getting the spotlight, it should be easy.

Early in Florida’s vaccine rollout, during a period marked by confusion and images of seniors in long lines desperate for a shot, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ office devised a pitch to air a more flattering view. In mid-January, his staff took the idea to Fox News.

The timing was perfect. Producers for Fox & Friends, the network’s top-rated cable morning news show, were already inquiring about DeSantis’ availability.

A plan came together in a flurry of emails and phone calls over several days. DeSantis’ team provided a senior, a location and the talking points. Fox News would bring the cameras and its audience. No other media would be allowed in.
Do read the whole thing. Lots to unpack there.
Back on topic.

That was a good, but scary, article. I wonder what the former guy thinks of this.

“Biden extends vital lifeline to Florida schools, and a giant middle finger to Ron DeSantis”
https://www.dailykos.com/story/2021/8/1 ... n-DeSantis

“Then Cardona notes that the American Rescue Plan Act that Biden ushered through in the first month of his administration includes over $7 billion in funds for education in Florida, as well as the authority to address issues concerning the ability of schools to operate safely during the pandemic. That means, writes Cardona, that he is prepared to “pay the full salaries of educators (including superintendents) and school board members, regardless of whether the state moves to withhold some of their salary ...”
Cardona goes on to note that the ARP required Florida to make funds available to school districts by May 24. It didn’t. In fact, DeSantis and the Florida Dept. of Education decided to starve schools of funding to help keep them on a short leash when it came to following DeSantis unreasonable and deadly rules. So, if any school district wants to use those funds, Cardona will see that they go straight to the schools, not the state.”

I've had the blessing of knowing and watching some brilliant teachers over the course of my life. Certainly content knowledge is key to keeping the lessons on track, but what I've found is that teaching is the more important part.

And DeSantis is still an asshole.

I'm still not over getting suspended in 7th grade for a meltdown argument I had with an American History teacher who casually dumped off a "That's not what Jefferson was thinking when he wrote the Constitution" and I, being asshole me pipped in "Jefferson didn't write the Constitution, Madison and Mason did" setting off an epic fight where I discovered my gift for utterly humiliating someone who was objectively wrong and refuses to back down from their mistake.

I got three days, for "ridiculing faculty" and almost another 3 for pointing out that he was doing the ridiculing, I was just making sure everyone knew it.

I have been doing that "keep making them defend the wrong thing until they have a meltdown" since, but never with such perfection as the day I made Mr Amyx have a nervous breakdown and psychotic event in front of 25 13 year old kids.
