I’m sad I’m missing the grand jury indictment thingie at Denny’s. I never get to be on the jury.
I'm wondering if it would be possible to set up a FaceTime or Skype type of conference call so that those of us who can't physically be present at Denny's for the indictments can at least participate vicariously via the intertoobs in this vital function of Democracy, jurisprudence, and fellowship? Foggy?
I was thinking the same thing! :idea:

That sounds like fun. I'd love to attend one sometime, but we will be on our way to New Mexico on Amtrak to visit friends. Darn.
Amtrak is awesome! PA to Chicago to Albuquerque? Or the southern route? Have you done a long distance train trip before? I iz a pro.
Amtrak to Santa Fe via Capitol Limited and Southwest Chief. We have done LOTS of long-distance train trips before, including one that was 7,500 miles round trip! :daydream:

Now that I have a bed. Bit further East, and IF the bank gets off their butt and converts me to full there is a very good chance I could drive in. It's only about a 9 hour drive.
I have learned silence from the talkative, toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind; yet, strange, I am ungrateful to those teachers.

Warning — imminent date change. Turns out the weekend chosen is some school vacation week and prices are sky-high, not to mention the place will be crawling with urchins.

This warning is because Foggy is a bit slow on updating.

I'm having trouble finding a hotel for the group. W4 and I discussed changing the dates, but that doesn't seem to help - Myrtle Beach is going to be crowded no matter what weekend we meet up.

So I'll keep the original dates - April 26 to 28 - and I'll keep working on finding a place to stay. More will be revealed ... mañana.

FOGBOW MEETUP POSTPONED TO OCT. 11TH TO 13TH!

#40

Post by Foggy » Fri Mar 01, 2019 8:36 am

Thank you for telling me about that, Fortie. I really appreciate it.

OK folks,

WHEREAS, I found a nice hotel on the beach for $127 a night ... and when I went to book it they mentioned the $145 fees and taxes. A 2-night stay would be close to $400,

:shock:

And WHEREAS, another hotel was more reasonable but requires a 3-night stay, which is ... not acceptable for some of us,

THEREFORE, I have decided to POSTPONE the Meetup until October.

October 11th to 13th, to be precise.

October in Myrtle Beach is the best time of the year.

  • the weather is still warm, in fact more pleasant than the summer months;
  • the ocean temperature is still warm, I've been there several times in October and swimming/bodysurfing are both quite pleasant;
  • hotel rooms are cheap, as the whole city is basically full of unoccupied rooms they are desperate to sell.
  • there don't seem to be any Jewish holidays in October. Rosh Hashanah ends September 1st (somebody tell me if I'm wrong before I set up a group reservation at a hotel, por favor).
More will be revealed!

Yay! I knew I couldn’t make the April dates, but there is a chance I can work around the October ones.

Some Canadians might go south that weekend and take up hotel space. It is Canada’s Thanksgiving weekend.

Huzzah for date changes!!! :happydance:

As of right this instant (& I will let Mr Hilltown know to *not* schedule anything) that weekend is open! I really, really hope we can go because I'd love to meet more of you (I've already met TRL & she's a joy). It is okay to bring spouses/significant others, yes? His birthday is October 2 so he'll fit right in with the birthday bunch.

This is better timing for pretty much everyone else...

Not sure I can make it. :brokenheart:

Also, super happy I didn’t buy my tickets last night like I was planning to until the skunk showed up with an opposum in tow. ;) They seem to be friends. Whereas the skunk is really skittish with his skunk friends and the squirrels, he came with and sat next to a possum last night while they ate the mealworms I feed to the chickens. Ripped through and ate nearly the entire 5# bag.

By the time they left, I had forgotten all about the tickets.
