I'm more of a purist when it comes to fried green tomatoes. I don't want to adulterate them with anything other than perhaps a bit of comeback sauce, and only a bit of that. They are a meal unto themselves.
Being a Northerner, I'm curious about comeback sauce. Is that something that you buy in the grocery stores down south or is it something you make? If it is a recipe, could you put it in the recipes thread?

(And no, this is not a threadjack. This is my virtual meetup since I couldn't make it to the physical one!)

It's not a threadjack. The Meetup is over. This is debriefing.

I don't know what comeback sauce is but it sounds frightening from a food sense. Like beans or hot peppers that comeback later. :bag:

A basic comeback sauce,
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
2 tablespoon hot sauce (like Texas Pete)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix all ingredients together until smooth.
Cover and store refrigerated until ready to serve.
It's pretty simple/basic. Mayo and ketchup seasoned and spiked w hot sauce. It would be good w fries or chips or veggies. I might try swapping sour cream for the Mayo and Worcestershire(not a fan).

That sounds yummy! I would probably add a teaspoon of white or cider vinegar for a little tanginess.

mayo
chili sauce
ketchup
lemon juice paprika
Worcestershire sauce
hot sauce
garlic powder
onion powder
salt
pepper
dry mustard

Start with a lot of mayo, some chili sauce and a little ketchup then add the spices and seasonings to taste. Put it all in a pickle jar, shake it up really well and refrigerate overnight. This originated as a salad dressing at a Greek restaurant here called The Rotisserie but most people just eat it on saltines. There is a bottle on most every restaurant table in town, right next to the pepper sauce bottle.

You can mess with the amounts of the ingredients a little, but what you can't do is mess with the ingredients themselves. You might leave something out, but you never substitute.
