Another look at the Islandic volcano at work, filling the lower valley. From the images it looks as now the lava flows over hardened lava in the upper valley and directly to the lower valley. From another clip that showed how much the lower valley had filled, I think in another two months the lower valley will be filled to the limits and overflow down to the sea. Appearently there are two likely and one lesser likely points where that will happen.

RVK Newscast #121: The Sleepy Volcano & A New Era Of Lava Flow
The Reykjavík Grapevine
28 Jul 2021

Alina and Art return to our snoozing volcano, and witness her waking for a moment – but only to cough out a healthy mix of CO2, SO2 and fluoric acid.

The crater at Fagradalsfjall is empty and dry, with all of the lava solidified; now we just wait for the volcano to rise again from her slumber. When she is active, lava flows into Meradalir at an average rate of 7.5 cubic metres per second. The flow rate has decreased dramatically since the volcano’s “fire geyser” period back in April and May, and experts say that a new lava flow model is now in operation.

This volcano is not the only one to cause trouble in Iceland at the moment. Earthquakes and seismic activity have also been detected around Katla, located under Myrdalsjökull, and troublemaker Grímsvötn is long overdue an eruption. Thrilling volcanic times still lie ahead...

New walking tours of Reykjavík are scheduled in August with Valur and Bjartmar Alexandersson, (co-presenter of The Icelandic Perspective), as your guides.

Downright weird. I'll be curious to see if/when it starts up again. I was fully expecting to be seeing it erupting in a few weeks in person. Maybe not.

It's been running cyclically the last few days, 7-13 hours or so active, similar time quiet.
The lava flow is similar but more visible
There has been considerable progress in the eruption at Fagradalsfjall tonight and night, and it has been seen very well from the capital area. Böðvar Sveinsson, a nature conservation specialist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, says that the activity is similar to what it has been, it stays down for 7 - 13 hours and then erupts for a similar length of time in between.
As I type this, it's active.

RVK Newscast #121: The Sleepy Volcano & A New Era Of Lava Flow
:snippity: .
adding to what Estivio quoted, for those who do not want to listen to the videofrom my post above:

According to the narrator lady the geologists are suggesting that the whole event was not a massive erruption of magma from far below (cause that would have been expected to be explosive in nature). Rather they suggest that this is a narrow magma funnel that was being filled and epanded in the Earth crust until it needed some pressure relieve. Then it start venting lava and they assume that the funnel has returned to its original "narrow" size and one now is observing a period where the vulcano goes dormant.

Not a word about it here... yet.

ETA: just received an email from civil defense about it - but no sirens, no tv warnings. If there is the possibility of a tsunami, I guess I'll hear about in an hour or so. Unfortunately, my emergency kit is lacking chocolate and a bottle of wine, so I may have to make a trip the store soon. Estimated time of arrival, if there is an arrival, would be in about 4 hours.

I vote for double filling both the chocolate and the wine. You never know, the next one could be big!

You are right. But also, toilet paper. I'll add to that to my next shopping trip.
