Well, remember Baby Gaetz was floating leaving Congress for a TV gig... being a minority in the minority is a big comedown from being on AF1 with DL2XIT. Baby Gaetz has never gotten legislation passed (he's in the Gym Jordan club). He got his visibility and pension, and he doesn't care about legislating. No matter what happens with this, won't be surprised to see him leave Congress along with some of the other "firebrand" losers. Good riddance.

If the R’s want to throw away a seat by electing someone who can’t show up to vote, let ‘em.

Haven't seen a linky yet, but MSNBC reported Gaetz pal Greenburg (that the name?) just got hit with new indictments.

Federal investigators are looking into a Bahamas trip Matt Gaetz allegedly took in late 2018 or early 2019 as part of an inquiry into whether the Florida representative violated sex trafficking laws, multiple sources told CBS News.

Gaetz was on that trip with a marijuana entrepreneur and hand surgeon named Jason Pirozzolo, who allegedly paid for the travel expenses, accommodations, and female escorts, the sources said.

Investigators are trying to determine if the escorts were illegally trafficked across state or international lines for the purpose of sex with the congressman.

"Traveling across state lines is what creates a federal hook for a prosecution," Arlo Devlin-Brown, a former prosecutor and partner at Covington & Burling, said in a report that aired on the "CBS Evening News with Norah O'Donnell." "It doesn't matter that [Gaetz] personally paid them as long as he knows someone is doing that."

The Justice Department declined to comment. Pirozollo did not respond to repeated attempts to contact him, and declined to comment on his relationship with Gaetz and whether he paid for escorts for him when asked by CBS News on Wednesday outside his office in Orlando.

My dad LOVED fraud schemes, as a spectator, of course. He wouldn't approve of the sexual component in these, but would eagerly look forward to the next installment.

Never really mentioned is that this story of Greenberg and his running buddies shows the absolute corruption of Florida state government. Greenberg was abusing his Seminole Tax Collector office from the moment he got in there but I've seen no evidence that any state investigation was taking place.

It's pretty bad when Bill Barr's Justice Department needed to step in.

The plea by Joel Greenberg could significantly strengthen the Justice Department's hand as it investigates Matt Gaetz and others who met Greenberg through Florida Republican politics and are being scrutinized on potential sex trafficking violations.

But while we're here, Twitter is suddenly abuzz that Trump granted Gaetz a "Secret Pardon" and any day now Matt is gonna whip it out. Some lawyer tell me that a pardon can only be secret until its accepted, and then someone has to file some paperwork somewhere to be effective... and further, if your Daddy leaves office before that paper gets filed, the Pardon doesn't exist anymore than the Almost Federal Judges in Marbury v. Madison commissions.

The problem with that theory is obvious.

Since when has Trump been able to keep a secret?
Also, the thing that always gets forgotton about: acceptance of a pardon is equal to admission of guilt.
So, does a blanket pardon imply an admission of unlimited guilt?

The prosecutor, Roger Handberg, made the disclosure about Mr. Greenberg’s case at a six-minute status hearing at the federal courthouse in Orlando, as did Mr. Greenberg’s lawyer, Fritz Scheller. Mr. Greenberg had been scheduled to go on trial in June, but both sides set a May 15 deadline for a plea deal. If they do not reach an agreement, the case would go to trial, they agreed.

“We believe this case is going to be a plea,” Mr. Handberg said.

Added Mr. Scheller: “I expect this case to be resolved with a plea deal.”

Neither said whether Mr. Greenberg would agree to cooperate with the government’s open investigation. Mr. Greenberg, 36, is likely to face 12 years in prison and legal experts said that if Mr. Greenberg had any hope of reducing that sentence, he would have to cooperate with the Justice Department.

Cooperation in federal inquiries typically entails being fully candid in interviews with investigators and testifying at trials and before grand juries in related investigations. Those who cooperate early usually receive the best deals from prosecutors; no others are known to have been indicted in this case.

Mr. Greenberg did not appear in court on Thursday. He was sent to jail in March for violating the terms of his bail.

Depends, but that's the most common arrangement for a proffer. The deal basically is that you won't be charged for anything new you tell them - or at least you won't be charged just because of what you say, also known as "use immunity" - as long as you tell the truth. In exchange for that fulsome cooperation, some sort of consideration will be granted as far as plea bargaining. The real prize is what we call a 5K1 letter (from Section 5 Part K Sub 1 of the Federal Sentencing Guidelines) from the prosecutor affirming that the defendant has rendered substantial assistance to authorities significant enough to deserve a downward departure from whatever the guidelines range is for their offense.

Off Topic
I wish I could say I’m shocked, but I’m not. I’ve lost count of the number of clients I’ve represented who were charged with child pornography offenses. I once attended a CLE in the military where the keynote speaker was an federal prosecutor. He asked, by show of hands, how many of the 450 or so present in the auditorium had represented a military member charged with certain crimes. A few hands went up for murder, more for rape. When he got to child pornography, just about every hand went up.
