That particular turtle is an eastern box turtle that Mrs. V's cousin's (who has a cottage on the Circle) husband has been tracking for years. The marks on the shells are as distinctive as fingerprints.

At least 20 other Houston area school districts are closed today.

Our former Texas city for 30+ years was Baytown just a bit east of Houston.

Facebook reports from Baytown this morning say that most of the city has no power. Schools are closed in both Baytown and all of Houston.

One of the NoFo's nicer restaurants has just opened a grab and go shop near here which features frozen pot pies handmade in the restaurant. Also soups and such.

Mrs.V has picked up a chicken pie and some seafood bisque for dinner.

Yes, Swap and Shop has been a daily program for decades. It used to be a full hour from 10 to 11 am but now starts at 10:15 and runs to about 10:50. The younger generations tend to buy and sell on the Internet.

Recent heavy rains have raised lake levels to 67.7%.

That is high enough to remove drought watch water use restrictions but so far the city council has not done so. Hot weather has started so the lake levels may soon drop again.
