Re: The Weight-Management Thread

I've lost about 15 pounds in the last six months, but I wouldn't recommend my methods. The first 5 or so were thanks to the "Stress Diet" - when I get very stressed or depressed I tend to not eat. Stress also led to high blood pressure, and I was placed on a blood pressure med that killed my appetit...

Re: On Stage: Musicals, Plays, Operas, and other Performing Arts

So my 2020 New Years Resolution was "More theatre - do more and see more" and so far it's going swimmingly. I've seen two plays that friends or acquaintances were involved in, I've been to three auditions, and on the last one I landed a role in a new play that I swear could have been written with me...

Re: On Stage: Musicals, Plays, Operas, and other Performing Arts

So Drunken Macbeth happened Wednesday night, and OMG it was the most fun I've ever had with Shakespeare! About half the cast, including me, nursed their single beer during the whole show; the other half decided to get trashed. (Don't worry, they had all arranged for safe rides home.) It made for som...

Re: On Stage: Musicals, Plays, Operas, and other Performing Arts

Last Thursday and Friday, my "home theatre" Theatre West had its second annual "Invitation to Shakespeare Workshop" evening, where we open our Thursday night Shakespeare workshop to the public to show what we've been doing. I performed my Richard II "hollow crown" speech, to a very positive response...

Re: On Stage: Musicals, Plays, Operas, and other Performing Arts

Congrats, Ms. Hecate!  The mini cast party was a blast - it was held at the brewery where we're doing the show, and about half the cast was able to make it. I am by far the oldest member of the cast - most of them are in their early-mid 20's and I turn 57 right before the show opens...

Re: On Stage: Musicals, Plays, Operas, and other Performing Arts

Hey all, I just got cast in a very low budget production of "the Scottish play", you know the one. What part(s)? As part of your "homework": Season two of "Slings & Arrows." Hecate! Queen of the witches, goddess of magic, and all around bad-ass bitch. She's usually cut, but not always - this is the...

Re: On Stage: Musicals, Plays, Operas, and other Performing Arts

Hey all, I just got cast in a very low budget production of "the Scottish play", you know the one. I think I'm going to like this theatre company a lot already - there will be four rehearsals, one performance (in a brewery and the actors get to drink) and they're having the cast party before the fir...

Poor Ginger has an ear hematoma. We took her to the vet last week, they drained it and gave her prednisone and ear drops, but a few days later it was all swollen up again. I took her back today, and they drained it again and installed a cannula to let the fluid drain continuously. She also has to we...

Yesterday I took Mr K for his neurosurgery followup from his head-bonking incident in late June. The good news: the subdural hematoma is gone, and his brain looks fine. Well, as fine as his brain gets. The bad news - my anxiety is still through the roof. I had to take an Ativan while waiting for his...

As a woman of a certain age, I’d like to see you do Mistress Quickly’s recounting of Falstaff’s death in Henry V.
Ooh, I’ll keep that one in mind! Thanks!

And yes, I’m finding this speech to be a delicate tightrope indeed. And I’m loving every inch of it.

Re: Hijack this thread

So my production of 12 Angry Jurors closed last Sunday. It was a near sold out run, and I couldn't have asked for a lovelier group of people to work with. This was my second production in a row, so I'm taking a little break from theatre for now. So what's my problem? I have a two day a week job at ...

Re: Earthquake! (or maybe Volcano!)

I was in a pickup rehearsal for my production of 12 Angry Jurors in Woodland Hills when last night’s quake hit. Juror 3 had just started his final monologue when the rolling started. As it went on, we briefly debated ducking under the sturdy jury table. I think we really felt it because we were all ...

We're called "No Party Preference" nowadays. I preferred Decline to State - it sounds almost mysterious. No Party Preference sounds wishy washy.

I just finished the last of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. My friend gave me the first few back in June, so I'd have something to read at the polls on Election Day. They're enjoyable light reading, perfect for reading at the polls or on the bus. I've also finished her Midnight Texas series and her Ha...
