Cross-posting NPR : Coronavirus FAQs: Is A Homemade Mask Effective? And What's The Best Way To Wear One? Some of that information is not correct. T-shirt fabric falls very far down the list of effective fabrics, and knits of any kind are not recommended. Woven cotton or poly/cotton are at the top o...

Re: What are you doing to stay sane on your Staycation?

Here's a cute idea. My son's fiancee is one of 4 children. Her parents live in CA. The kids are scattered around the country and my son has already been accepted as part of their immediate family, and he's scattered in yet another place. So Sunday night they are having a family dinner. I'll have to...

Turns out I just had a bad case of allergies so I'm back to sewing. Running out of ribbon so I have to break down and make my own ties. Pray for me. My sewing skills aren't what they used to be.
I am so glad to read this.

People in my neighborhood are putting teddy bears in the windows of their homes, and when parents take their kids out to walk, they go on "teddy bear hunts" to see how many they can find. They're doing Easter eggs here. NOLA is doing rainbows and dinosaurs. We have a ceramic pink french bull dog si...

Re: On a Personal Level--Coronavirus COVID-19 Cancellations, etc.

My husband, who is still currently schedule to fly to OKC on Monday, called the hotel to arrange for the shuttle to pick him up. Interestingly, he's booked for a room, but the hotel couldn't find his class, nor could they find the instructor for that class. Not quite sure what's going on, but since...

I am fairly certain that if we had a functioning CDC they would be doing random surveys in California to see how pervasive the virus is in not yet symptomatic people. Maybe they are and are not reporting the results. :cantlook:

Trump and his cultists continue to attend rallies. If a few of those cultists are sick the rallies might end quickly. We can hope. During a crisis like this, Trump should be working to help end it doing nothing leaving the work to people who know and care what they are doing. Now there's a thought:...

The IRS may care. Whether or not $eim has an income and makes money. https://m.taxesforexpats.com/expat-tax-advice/how-irs-can-find-you.html They care, but as long as you file returns timely and pay what you owe (almost certainly zero, in his case), they aren't too concerned about the particulars. ...

So I am sitting in the prospective jurors room, waiting for orientation. Someone two rows in front of me really doesn't want to serve: he is wearing a T-shirt that says "Against Police Brutality." I would take a photo of it was allowed.

Josh Marshall is proposing the use of the term / verb "to underbus" since it is getting so tedious referring to so and so being thrown under the bus.

If Seim was actually talking about leaving because of a nearby fire, it was probably the only sensible thing he ever said. Changed my vote to Jimmy, because I now think it's Rudy, and Rudy's not on the list.

FTR, I previously thought that there was zero chance of Rudy ending up with tread-marks on his sneakers.
Yes: Jimmy down the hall is my pick for the same reason.

The only sensible thing to do is to have a second referendum. I hate referendums. I hate them too, and refuse to sign petitions here in Colorado, even when I might accept the idea in principle. However, I do vote in them, and was mildly astonished when 1) medical marijuana was legalized, 2) followe...

The last time we drove to my sister's place in Encino, I think we actually drove through the pass where the fire started because Google Maps directed us from our usual route.

I don't know how well 'distancing' is going to work. He is the President. He made the call. He said the words. Good luck with that. Meanwhile, he is continuing to reduce the number of close colleagues who still support him by trying to turn them into fall guys. This is not a good long-term strategy...
