Music Free-for-all

My question is - Who was the first guy to blow through a hollow stick, make a sound, and amaze the shit out of everyone standing around? Correct and no such implication was implied.

When my one time house mate was a young girl, her family lived next door to the man who became the President of the of the church.

I can't find the statement now, but I thought I saw someone put forth the idea that the Original Colonists (the Mayflower mob) 'escaped persecution' in England to pursue "religious freedom". This is one of the great American Myths that we should have grown out of long ago. The only religio...

A quick check of stats suggests that the Catholic church is nowhere near as central to American life as it was 50 years ago. At this point I paused, blinked, read it again and burst out laughing. Are you serious? The LDS has been more central to American life than Catholics ever were. :snippity: Ya...

Time to rock it like it's 1499. https://youtu.be/W8DscJHxQ0w?si=MtOMKTD3kBxmor9c Talk about SCA!!! I loved the 'proto-trombone' - what's it actually called? And what are those reeded instruments? Surely not Oboes - (no valves, just finger holes) but maybe? I take it that thing on screen right is a ...

Not a SCAdian in the bunch. :rotflmao: I had a client, an engineer at Tektronics back when it still occupied the Beaverton campus, that was a SCA member. Huge dude. Six foot plus, well over 300lbs, had to drive a Dodge Powerwagon because it was the only thing that fit him. He said in his local club...

One of Australia's most famous satirist's (Barry Humphries RIP) most famous routines was to dress up in drag as Dame Edna.

He did other characters (male) too and was married with several kids. I never heard one person claim insult by Dame Edna.

FYI The mountain, Sentinel Peak, commonally called A-Mountain was 'vandalized' a hundred years ago when the 'A' was built. It is repainted at least once a year before football season starts. Sometimes more that once. Rival students from ASU try to paint it in ASU colors, maroon and urine, when the f...

Privite Eye "Letters from our own corrispondent"

Private Eye is a great magazine. Started in the sixties and has boasted some of the greatest political and satirical writers of the last 70 years.

It was started by Peter Cook, and included a lot of expat Australians like Barry Humphreys in the early days.
