Re: Coronavirus Humor

OK then. My bad. Didn't get the punchline. Fake news and whatnot. What do you call it? Oh yeah, sarcastic.

If you wanna talk black humor I'll take the Pepsi Challenge.

Re: "The Media is a goddam problem" General Thread

Nice little story from a small town paper in Iowa. They ain't a goddam problem, so this may be the wrong thread. The newspaper industry was already faltering. Will coronavirus obliterate it? https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/apr/06/the-newspaper-industry-was-already-faltering-will-coron...

Re: Coronavirus racial distribution of cases

I'm not blaming anyone, just witnessing the spread of a virus. I'd probably be more inclined to blame those who exploit minorities, for the benefit of their wallets.

Re: Coronavirus racial distribution of cases

We got a 24-hour Covid party in my neighborhood. On one side of our building, construction on luxury apartments continues, openly flaunting stop-work orders and other ordinances. Non-union workers with no protection congregate at unsafe distances. Outside our door, the party continues every night. T...

Re: President* Trump - *Impeached

Yeah, that was incredible. I sat through a 2-hour City Council emergency meeting yesterday. Clerks and security were wearing gloves, no hand shaking, stay a foot back and don't touch the microphone, keep one empty seat between each other, etc. The White House deal was an example of what NOT to do. B...

This all reminds me of an old joke of mine:
Q: How do you turn a Democrat into a Republican?
A: Give them some money.

Now we'll see if the inverse is true.

Kalitta Air N705CK, a 747 freighter, just flew into OAK from OSC (Oskata MI) and is taxiing to the executive terminal. This is not a regularly scheduled flight. This same plane flew a rescue flight from Wuhan, China to Ontario, CA on Jan 28.

Road my bike around the Port of Oakland today to see the intense preparations for the unloading of the Princess Virus cruise ship. It was impressive. Busses and trucks from all sorts of agencies - local, state and feds. Security was tight, as they scrambled to transform a busy intermodal container s...

Re: How We Think about Death. A Life Well lived.

This is my theory, based upon recent legal strategy. Not sure if it will help.

After we are born, we are given two options: sudden death and prolonged death.

The latter may be preferable, if it is reasonably long and relatively painless.

Re: Flash Poll Mar 5 2020 - Bernard Sanders or Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.?

Politics has morphed into entertainment and some politicians have successfully leveraged that.
Other politicians are somewhat boring.
I generally prefer the second group.

Bloomberg's been carpet-bombing ads nonstop. They all have the same generic Subaru soundtrack. He's been trying to drum up mayoral support. Came to town to eat an overpriced bagel down my block. Steyer's also going for the "look at me, I'm a rich guy on TV" approach. Glad the primary is early this y...

Chris and Tina were alright. Real friendly. Tom Tom Club were awesome. We're talking Bootsy! Jerry was cool enough. He played with Jonathan Richman - that's pretty dope - and produced a lot of bands. David Byrne, he started out kinda psycho, but then it went to his head. He started acting like some ...

The reports I've been reading suggest Bernie is in the lead. His campaign is highly mobilized and has offices in more cities than other candidates, including one a couple blocks from me in a stripped-down vacant storefront.

Gotta admit: I made the same mistake a long time ago. I got some cousins who live out there. Got schooled. Fortunately I wasn't the Impeached President of the United States at the time. Close call. It also took me years to figure out the University of Missouri was the same thing as Mizzou. The first...

Re: Cancel Culture aka The Purity Spiral

That's some weird stuff. I disagree with the conclusion. The simplest solution is to say the hell away from crap like Instagram and Facebook and any technology that monetizes conflict. Social media is neither, by design and business plan. Take a walk, read a book, pet a dog, call a friend.

Re: New Diseases

I think I had the coronavirus once. One night we were out and had a bunch of coronas. The next morning I was real sick. If I had a couple of cases, I'd probably toss them down the sink. I got a couple cases of tecates. Figured it would be a good idea to stock up. If there's a tecatevirus, I'm fucked.

YIMBY sounds nice on paper but is often sheep's clothing. The other articles revolve around xenophobia, whi...

Re: Issues 2020: YIMBY

The acceptance of refugees is one issue, YIMBY is another. YIMBYism is location-dependent. In the inner cities, they are often the shills for corporate developers, subsidized by corporate dollars. Their goal is often to displace low-income residents and replace them with luxury apartments. YIMBYs Ex...

Re: Trump - POTUS Tweets and Social Media

Upthread, Dolly quoted "Until the media turns their back on politics as entertainment..." That's the crux of the issue, but it's impossible. You can't blame the media, as they answer to their viewership. If Facebook or Twitter or the NYT turned their back on entertainment, they would lose their audi...
