Southwestern Pennsylvania got plenty of flooding and damage from Ida as she passed by, but not nearly as bad as farther east in the state. We got a lot of rain on Wednesday out of the storm, which came in on top of a very rainy day on Tuesday from another front. The ground has been thoroughly saturated here from the weather over the last few weeks, so the even creeks that don't normally flood did. This part of the state has lots of hills, lots of rivers, and lots of creeks, so the lower areas flood while people who live at higher levels in the hills will never see the flooding, although sometimes there are other issues (slides). But, of course, a lot of roads get flooded out, so everyone is affected. The bottom of our hill was flooded out for part of the day on Wednesday, and a lot of people who were flooded out are still dealing with it.

A lot of places already have power (more by the hour) and water was never an issue except in a few places that were so hard-hit they aren't going back to their houses with or without power. The stations have gas but no power to pump it with. Entergy and the City are saying 90% of the City will have power by the 8th. It may be as long as the 25th for the remaining 10%.

With more frequent big storms Entergy can't finish paying for one round of repairs before the next storm hits.

On Twitter the #ida and #hurricaneida are full of fund raising requests from people who need help recovering from the storm. So much suffering. :(

Where are those forests that provide the lumber for poles, nice straight and stroing ?

How about the lumber shortage and the supplies needed to rebuild all those homes? Did the Biden administration do away with the special taxes on Canadian wood or is the rebuild especially costly thanks to the former economic genius?

Luckily I'm north along the Hudson River and in the hills about 1000 feet above sea level all I got was wind and some rain. The dog didn't want to go outside. One of my good friends lives near the Bronx. He apartment was under 4 feet of water and she lost everything. He neighbors cars were all underwater. Luckily she was in long Island at the time so at least she was safe. My brother lives in Brooklyn and he was clueless when I called him. Guess he's out of the flood zone so he was fine

Mayor wants evacuees to return. Power in NO expected to be fully restored by Wednesday.

Comparing 2000 and 2010 Cenus numbers NO lost almost 30% of its population due to Katrina. From 2010 to 2020 the population increased 11% but was still below the preKatrina levels.
