What’s with all the dropped letters in this missive? There are so many but they aren’t consistent. Sometimes the letter prints, sometimes it’s missing. Is th s some kind f secret code?
When I worked for NavTelCom we used IBM Selectrics. The ink was in a ginormous cartridge. When we got to the end of a cartridge we’d lock it in our desk until the Friday burn bag parade, when we’d take our burn bags full of used cartridges down to the loading dock and throw our bag in the back of a truck. Many of the secretaries had Top Secret clearance.
We weren’t supposed to reuse the cartridges but it happened once in a while. They could be rewound but you’d get void spots like that.
This was over 30 years ago. Are they still using IBM Selectrics?!?!?

It seems to be caused by the gray overprint of "FOR HCOR USE ONLY", "DO NOT DISTRIBUTE". The missing letters in the text always lie under a gray overprint letter. I'm not sure why that would happen only in some cases and cause a whole letter to disappear, but the gray overprint seems to be the source of the problem.

False claims of fraud in the 2020 election are fueling calls for violence on social media, the Department of Homeland Security is warning local police departments.
“DHS has seen an increasing but modest level of individuals calling for violence in response to the unsubstantiated claims of fraud related to the 2020 election fraud and the alleged ‘reinstatement’ of former President Trump,” a DHS spokesperson told NBC News.
Officials were clear that they have no intelligence of a specific domestic terrorism plot. But DHS leaders say they believe security agencies were unprepared for the Jan. 6 riot in part because they paid too little attention to violent and extremist rhetoric on social media.
In an effort to avoid repeating that mistake, the department is trying to sound the alarm among local police agencies about the potential for political violence.

A federal judge has ordered two Colorado lawyers who filed a lawsuit late last year challenging the 2020 election results to pay nearly $187,000 to defray the legal fees of groups they sued, arguing that the hefty penalty was proper to deter others from using frivolous suits to undermine the democratic system.
“They are experienced lawyers who should have known better. They need to take responsibility for their misconduct,” he wrote.
The two lawyers, Gary D. Fielder and Ernest John Walker, filed the case in December 2020 as a class action on behalf of 160 million American voters, alleging there was a complicated plot to steal the election from President Donald Trump and give the victory to Joe Biden.
