For the first time EVER, the US government said Russian agent Konstantin Kilimnik provided Russian intelligence agencies with the internal Trump campaign polling/strategy data he received from Manafort and Gates in 2016. Even Mueller didn't go that far. https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy0126

This is the main observation. Putin was bored, out of balance & read the text stumbling. I held the text of his public speech at the same time as he spoke & he made many changes, sometimes because the text was incorrect ("and" instead of or"), mostly because he did not know it.

pure disinfo.

Rand Paul is useless to them (or anyone else for that matter), so throw some chum in the water to lure the sharks away from the real Russian assets.

Not happening. Really bad call by Zelensky, this rookie mistake did his country no favors by screwing this up. Embarrassing the US President will mean hell to pay at lower levels. And Ukraine needs us. We'd better see an apology before the Putin Summit. Don't believe for a minute this was some sort of "signal" or "threat".
Ukrainian tweet scrambles Biden's press conference
For a few short minutes, it appeared Ukraine was on the path to NATO membership but that was not to be.
By ANITA KUMAR 06/14/2021 07:39 PM EDT

BRUSSELS — Just before President Joe Biden started his news conference Monday, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted that NATO agreed that his country could join the alliance. "Commend @NATO partners' understanding of all the risks and challenges we face," he wrote. "NATO leaders confirmed that will become a member of the Alliance."

Biden was inexplicably running late, two hours late, and the tweet suddenly appeared to explain what could be causing a delay. Two days before Biden is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin, news of Ukraine joining NATO would have sent a strong message to Russia. In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine and began supporting separatists in the country, Russia has continued to amass troops along the Ukrainian border.

On Twitter, foreign policy experts and journalists began to question what Ukraine's announcement meant and what Biden would say. Some began to speculate Putin would cancel the meeting. NATO, a 30-member alliance, was formed in 1949 to counter the Soviet Union. It pledge that an attack against one country is an attack against them all.

When Biden finally appeared in front of the cameras, he said NATO would stand behind Ukraine's "sovereignty and territorial integrity," but didn't mention the country joining the alliance. It quickly became clear that Ukraine had overstated what happened by not including when the country might be admitted.

Nobody watching Putin's presser? My favorite line so far: "There is no happiness in life, it's just a mirage."

West at risk of conflict with Russia, Britain's army chief says

https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/west-r ... ce=twitter
There is a greater risk of an accidental war breaking out between the West and Russia than at any time since the Cold War, with many of the traditional diplomatic tools no longer available, Britain's most senior military officer said.

General Nick Carter, chief of the defence staff, told Times Radio there was a greater risk of tensions in the new era of a "multipolar world", where governments compete for different objectives and different agendas.

"I think we have to be careful that people don't end up allowing the bellicose nature of some of our politics to end up in a position where escalation leads to miscalculation," he said in an interview to be broadcast on Sunday.

Tensions have been mounting in eastern Europe in recent weeks after the European Union accused Belarus of flying in thousands of migrants to engineer a humanitarian crisis on its border with EU-member state Poland, a dispute that threatens to draw in Russia and NATO.

I posted Gallego's tweet in response to this story in the Ukraine thread. It said "Fuck Around and Find Out" followed by an American flag emoji.

True story.

My wife's nephew, a mid-20s Montana libertarian from a Fox News mother, a father and grandfather who were Wyoming State Police, who in college studied Russia, studied in Russia, and worked for Rep. Daines, who in college promoted white nationalist speakers on campus...he writes for and is employed by Sputnik.
