I like Sally Struthers too. However, I recall that in at least one of those commercials she was dressed in what appeared to be fairly expensive designer clothes and sunglasses. I remember thinking that the cost of that outfit could probably feed a small village for a year. It was very out of place in the environment she was in.

Yep. She's famous for being tone deaf with her appeals wearing $2000 outfits while hustling for dimes and pennies. She had a reputation for being high maintenance, entitled, and drunk on set too.
