‘Never seen Jupiter like this’: James Webb telescope shows incredible view of planet
A Nasa image shows a false color composite of Jupiter obtained by the James Webb space telescope.

Associated Press
Mon 22 Aug 2022 23.36 BST

The world’s newest and biggest space telescope is showing Jupiter as never before, auroras and all.

Scientists released the shots Monday of the solar system’s biggest planet.

The James Webb space telescope took the photos in July, capturing unprecedented views of Jupiter’s northern and southern lights, and swirling polar haze.

Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, a storm big enough to swallow Earth, stands out brightly alongside countless smaller storms. One wide-field picture is particularly dramatic, showing the faint rings around the planet, as well as two tiny moons against a glittering background of galaxies.

Thanks! I meant to share the photo and got in a hurry and didn't look at my post.

But since many of the Webb photos are overlayed with images from different wavelengths and cameras, it's worth it to go to the link itself, see both images, and read the information. I wasn't able to get the photo that shows when you aren't hovering over the images.

208 BILLION PIXELS! | FIRST EVER Euclid Space Telescope Survey Image!

Chris Pattison
15 Oct 2024

The Euclid Space Telescope is on a mission to image a third of the sky. Today, we see the release of the very first image from this enormous survey. We can see millions of stars and galaxies in this stunning image, and there is so much more to come from this telescope in the future too. Come and explore the image with me, and we'll talk about exactly what we can see in this beautiful image.

In the great atlas of Euclid, we've just seen the first page.

The offical ESA info of above
Euclid’s 208-Gigapixel glimpse into the Universe

European Space Agency, ESA
15 Oct 2024

Discover the first page of ESA Euclid’s great cosmic atlas and marvel at millions of stars and galaxies captured in pristine detail, in a huge 208-gigapixel mosaic. The mosaic covers an area of the Southern Sky more than 500 times the area of the full Moon as seen from Earth.

This video takes you through a rare sky dive. Starting from a vast cosmic panorama bedazzled by some 14 million galaxies, a series of ever-deeper zooms brings you to a crisp view of a swirling spiral galaxy, in a final image enlarged 600 times compared to the full mosaic.

Although the scenes are enticing, they are not taken for their beauty, but to help us advance our understanding of the cosmos. Many of the 14 million galaxies in the initial vista will be used to study the hidden influence of dark matter and dark energy on the Universe.

Unveiled as a teaser of the wide survey, the mosaic accounts for 1% of the area that Euclid will cover over six years, and was obtained by combining 260 observations collected in just two weeks.

This first chunk of Euclid’s survey was revealed on 15 October 2024 at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan, Italy, by ESA’s Director General Josef Aschbacher and Director of Science Carole Mundell.

My phone has a little bit of trouble trying to open a 208 gigapixel graphic. Maybe my next phone can handle it.
