I'm always a sucker for Playing for Change.
DMB is good, they picked a good piece for their energetic closer but they just don't make it their own.
Jimi made it his own, with the greatest cover in the history of covers, hands down, and no opposing views considered.

But i gotta vote for Bob's original as my favorite Watchtower. On John Wesley Harding" as a whole, not only is Dylan at the peak of his story telling, his shows that he really can sing, and quite well, and he drops his nasel twang he hid behind in his early days to show that he has a pretty good voice as well.

"Stefan" Lessard is the bass player for DMB

The poll is set in the order of the videos I posted.

From Canada's Kumbya Festival in 1994. It's one of those big All-Star jams at the end of a music festival. This one features Lawrence Gowan from Styx, Tom Cochran from Red Ryder and his solo career and (you knew he had to be in here somewhere) Alex Lifeson from Rush. It's extremely well done.

I have to admit I'm glad I didn't watch the BSG Reboot, as that "All along the Watchtower" reveal would have totally gone over my head. I guess its because I'm a furriner but I'd never really registered that song before. So I'd have been going, "uh... whats all the fuss about?"

Still, I love the Brear McCreary version that I have on the Battlestar Gallactica soundtrack CD I have. I think I picked it up in a Charity shop out of curiosity.

Bob is a great crafter of songs, never did get with his singing.

Jimi was a natural extension of Robert Johnson, that a classic riff.

Ms Lee's rendition is different but nice.

Stefan's is my favourite I think. I've seen him play it live, and this one gets me as he gives due to Jimi with the Star Spangled Banner thrown in during his intro.

And the folks that came together with Playing For Change were special on a whole different level.

This is the Album version of Bear McCrearys version, not the Broadcast version.
