Europe is so small compared to the U.S. yet capable of so much pain. The squrrels playing in my back yard and the wild turkeys (and sometimes deer) there would be in parks in Europe. We have so much to value.

Between our younger daughter's wedding and Thanksgiving at our older daughter's house I will be posting less for the next week or so.

Hope the country doesn't collapse in the meantime. ;)

Yep, opposite sex marriage but one of the bride's attendants is married to the DJ in a same sex marriage.

Just about an hour to go. Mrs. V. and our older daughter, the matron of honor, are already at the venue. My son in law and I will follow shortly. Weather has turned cold here so we are taking a Lyft.

Soon I will have 2 sons in law. :-D

Are you getting the glaze ice and snow with the cold, Midwest getting pounded with more on the way, and NY and NE had a grade A nasty weekend, fun not had by all. Be safe.

NPR ran an interesting story about C. diff. infections. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-sho ... tside-them

It was once thought that most infections were due to antibiotic use changing the flora of the gut or to acquiring the infection while in the hospital from spores disseminated by Hospital workers. Now perhaps as many as 40% of infections are acquired in the community, some due to antibiotic use but some having no association with antibiotics. This may be a change.

The infection is serious. 2011 saw nearly 30,000 deaths due to the infection.

New vacation site for fierceredpanda: Detroit!

https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/det ... -next-week
Detroit Zoo to open newly expanded red panda forest next week

The new area will be revealed on Monday, Dec. 10.

More on what was completed:

The Holtzman Wildlife Foundation Red Panda Forest has been expanded by 4,000 square feet to more than 14,000 square feet, with the addition of a flowing stream, a larger and more complex arboreal pathway through the habitat, misting areas to cool the red pandas in the summer, more land for exploration and a variety of new nesting places.

A rope bridge extending 80 feet through the trees in the red pandas’ habitat provides an exciting experience for adventurous guests and unparalleled views of these arboreal animals.

Today I'm donating platelets to the Red Cross at noon, and they say it takes about 3 hours. It's been so long since I donated platelets I clean forgotted how long it takes. I shall return later this afternoon with a bit of good karma and down a quart. :towel:
Off Topic
Did I tell y'all about the time I cost the Red Cross a donor?

I was on our local forum, now sadly departed, with a lot of liberals and conservatives who argued about everything and anything, and some racist moron who honest to gawd lives in Pink Hill, NC tried to tell us that he kept 20 quarts of "pure German blood" in case he ever needed a transfusion, so that he could be 100% guaranteed not to get any blood from some inferior race.

So first off, a lovely liberal lady friend of mine who was an IT geek and part-time roller derby queen (I am dead serious) informed him that if he was keeping all that blood in his fridge it was long gone in terms of usefulness, because there are actually some scientific procedures that you have to use in order to store blood properly, and even if you do all the science just right the blood still goes bad after a few months.

So then the racist moron said he "misspoke" and the real story was that he had been giving blood to the Red Cross for a very long time, and he was guaranteed that if he ever needed a fill-up he would get pure wypipo blood (my POC buddies use the word 'wypipo' to describe those of us who are melanin-deficient).

And that's when I opened my fat mouf and 'splained him that the Red Cross stores blood by BLOOD TYPE and not by the race of the donor. And I gave him links so he could see for himself. I was younger and a bit more naïve in them days, and I didn't even realize that an Earthling could be so stupid racist that HE WOULD RATHER DIE than be saved by a blood transfusion, if'n some of the blood came from a person with the completely wrong color skin.

So he said he was never giving another drop of his pure German blood to the Red Cross ever again. :o

I told him the troof and cost them a donor. :blackeye:

For a few years back there, I gave blood more often to make up for that.

I’m in bed in our new home. :-D Mr520 is sleeping at the other place tonight; tomorrow begins his break and more werk. It’s just as well he’s not here. I’m coughing, wheezing, and can’t breadhe through by dose etc. (Sprout too) but by golly we’re here! Surrounded by boxes!

I brought the cats over tonight, Sugar. The two tuxies are out exploring and the other two are still hiding but they’ll be fine. It’s quiet right now. We have a plan for when it’s not.

I had planned to bring them last night but circs conspired. I drove to the old house bone tired last night to get a few cats and other things. Already getting sick, and being tired, I turned on autopilot where I had meant to go straight. I wish I hadn’t done that.

Ahead of me were three cars in each of two lanes, brake lights blazing, a few hazards flashing. A pickup parked diagonally blocked the southbound lanes. Just ahead of them were a distraught young man, swerving skid marks and a dark shape on the road. No emergency vehicles yet; one man had taken charge and was directing traffic, clearing the way for the emergency vehicles. A LifeFlight helicopter approached then turned away. We cars were trapped for about 10 minutes. We couldn’t help but get the picture.

A woman had darted out from between parked cars, near the apartments. It was 5:25, awful dusk and the young man tried to avoid her. She was alive when I got there, gone minutes later.

I’ve participated in swift water rescues, rescued a family from a burning building once, tried to resuscitate a teen drowning victim. I know how to protect myself, to detach for the necessary time. I was looking forward to having my kiddos curled around for the first night here, without my Everything snoring next to me. But the movers had packed the 3 soft carriers.

Uh-oh, started to shut down a bit. Screamed at stupid drivers on the way home. Fell ehxsusted into bed...and lay awake the rest of the night detached, but disturbed. Two lives ruined. No one’s fault, really. So close to Christmas.

I got an hour’s sleep, had appointments and things to do this morning. Still can’t sleep.

(Oh RS my heart aches for you tonight).

Peace to you my friends.
