Adding:
Business Insider: 'He reminds me of my son': Joe Biden gives Pete Buttigieg the 'highest compliment' after receiving endorsement ...

"I didn't ask Pete to endorse me, but I called him and told him that we needed him to stay engaged," Biden said at a rally, with Buttigieg standing behind him. "We needed him badly to be involved. Because when he talked to the campaign ... about 'passing the torch to the next generation,' that's absolutely essential."
Reuters: In a Texas chicken joint, Biden and onetime rival Buttigieg unite to stop Sanders ...

Buttigieg’s endorsement was the most eye-catching among over 100 that flooded in for Biden from mostly moderate Democrats after his dominant South Carolina win on Saturday.

This probably belongs elsewhere, but I can't think.
New York Mag: Pete Buttigieg to Guest Host Jimmy Kimmel Live This Week

Former presidential candidate and current Joe Biden supporter Pete Buttigieg has a new gig lined up this week: taking over late-night hosting duties for Jimmy Kimmel. On the Today show this morning, Buttigieg was interviewed about why he suspended his presidential campaign and what his plans are for the future, and while he told Craig Melvin that he and his husband, Chasten, are looking forward to some “time away,” there’s one big TV job he has lined up first. “On Thursday I’m gonna be guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Buttigieg said. “So we’re really excited for that — lining up a great slate of guests. Sir Patrick Stewart’s coming on — we’re very excited about that.” When asked by Melvin if he’ll be delivering a monologue, Buttigieg said, “Yeah! Well, hopefully some funnier minds than mine will be doing some writing for that. But I think it’s going to be fun. You know, the thing about coming off of a presidential campaign is you have been focused on one thing and one thing only. It’s nice to be able to zoom out and just come back at life.”

CNN: Buttigieg highlights importance of local officials in first post-campaign endorsements

Pete Buttigieg announced his newly minted leadership political action committee's first slate of endorsements on Wednesday, highlighting the importance of both established candidates in key battle ground races and younger Democrats running in local contests.

Buttigieg officially made the announcement on a call with staffers who worked for his campaign on Wednesday afternoon. The former South Bend, Indiana, mayor argued that the endorsements represent the ideals he brought to his presidential campaign and that he hopes to carry on through his PAC, including backing candidates in areas not traditionally favorable to Democrats.

Buttigieg, in an interview with CNN before he officially announced the endorsements, said the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the importance of local officials, which is why he backed people like Jevin Hodge, a candidate for the Board of Supervisors in Maricopa County, Arizona, and Sandra Jauregui, a candidate for a Nevada House seat, on Wednesday.

"Especially in the era of the pandemic, we're seeing just how important leadership is at every level, certainly in Congress, but also in the state and local offices," Buttigieg said. "And yet, ironically there's also less attention available to these races than ever just because of everything that's going on."

Yay Pete! He raised over a million, HRC raised over $2 million, just this week.

Buttigieg helps Biden raise $1M at 'grassroots' fundraiser
The event is the latest effort by the former South Bend, Ind., mayor to boost his party's presidential nominee.
By ELENA SCHNEIDER 05/22/2020 04:06 PM EDT

Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg are co-hosting the former vice president's first "grassroots" fundraiser during the coronavirus pandemic — bringing in $1 million for a campaign that initially struggled to attract small-dollar donations. More than 35,000 people signed up for the Friday afternoon event, after Biden and Buttigieg sent the fundraising request to their respective email lists. The average donation was $26, according to a source close to the organizers. Biden's once cash-strapped campaign is now raking in big money as the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, even as he's been forced to rely on virtual fundraisers during the pandemic. Biden, along with the Democratic National Committee, nearly matched President Donald Trump's fundraising haul last month.

Biden's virtual fundraisers often feature a cast of the former vice president's primary rivals, including Buttigieg and Sens. Kamala Harris and Amy Klobuchar, who have all appeared alongside him and tapped into their donor networks for the presumptive nominee. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton collected $2 million for Biden's new joint fundraising committee with the DNC this week.

During the presidential primary, Biden struggled to raise money from small-dollar donors, even as he brought in significant cash from big-ticket fundraisers. Buttigieg, meanwhile, became a fundraising juggernaut from both high- and low-dollar donors, collecting more than $100 million before dropping out of the race in early March.

The former South Bend, Ind., mayor, who burst out of near obscurity to finish in the top two in both Iowa and New Hampshire, grew his campaign's email list from 24,000 to well over 1 million people. Buttigieg is exempt from vice presidential speculation, after Biden pledged to select a woman running mate. But he's maintained a national profile as a surrogate for Biden, hosting three high-dollar fundraisers and a digital organizing event earlier this month. He's also appeared in dozens of local news interviews in battleground states. In recent weeks, Buttigieg also started his own PAC and affiliated nonprofit, Win the Era, which has endorsed a slate of down-ballot candidates.

Press Herald: Buttigieg, South Carolina mayor team up on COVID effort

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Former South Bend, Indiana, mayor and presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has teamed up with the mayor of South Carolina’s capital city to help municipalities stem the spread of the coronavirus.

Columbia, South Carolina, Mayor Steve Benjamin said Thursday that he and Buttigieg have been co-chairing the Pandemic Resilience Working Group for America’s Mayors. The group is organized by the COVID-19 Study Group at the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University.

The guidelines are important for cities, which have different concerns and needs amid the outbreak, Benjamin said. According to the mayor, his effort with Buttigieg has focused on providing accessible guidance to both policymakers and the public on how to target and suppress the spread of COVID-19, including a color-coded map to categorize an area’s risk level based on the number of new daily cases.

“The roadmap that we’ve been able to lay out with the leadership of these amazing researchers, public health and policy can stop the spread of the virus, save lives and our economy,” Benjamin said. “I’m also excited to work with Pete Buttigieg again. As America was able to see over the course of last year, he’s one of the brightest minds in our country.”

New York Times: Pete Buttigieg Dropped Out of the Presidential Race and Wrote a Best Seller

MAYORAL FEAT In April, while the average stir-crazy citizen was binge-watching “Tiger King,” Pete Buttigieg took a different tack: He started writing a book. First, the former presidential candidate and two-term mayor of South Bend, Ind., converted a guest room into a study. Then he woke up early every morning and got to work, snacking on peanuts and almonds while his dogs, Truman and Buddy, dozed nearby. (His husband, Chasten, was putting the finishing touches on his own future best-selling memoir, “I Have Something to Tell You,” in the dining room.) By late July, Buttigieg had finished a draft of “Trust,” which debuted at No. 11 on last week’s hardcover nonfiction list. His first book, “Shortest Way Home,” was also a best seller.

“There is unquestionably a crisis of trust and trustworthiness in our country — trust in our institutions, trust in each other, global trust in America as a whole,” Buttigieg said in a recent phone call. “What I was trying to do was both shine a light on the ways routine cooperation requires trust — whether you’re eating at a restaurant or driving a car — and also show what’s at stake in the biggest public health crisis of our time. I wanted to do it in a way that lets people hear the phrase ‘a more trusting time’ and think about what we’re building instead of what we’ve lost.”

So, which is harder: running for president or writing a book on a tight deadline? Buttigieg chuckled at the question: “I think it’s safe to say that not much is harder than running for president.” He didn’t mind the “deadline energy” of his kamikaze literary endeavor, which was motivated by a desire to launch the book before the election. He said it reminded him of being back in school: “You get that same high when you’re in the zone of pushing and knowing you’re getting somewhere and you’re exhausted but you also don’t want to stop.”

These days, Buttigieg really is back in school — masked, standing behind plexiglass, teaching a course on trust in politics to 19 undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame. He said, “Despite the unfortunate and high profile of what happened to the president of the university, the campus has achieved something remarkable. After a huge amount of discipline and because of students coming through and cooperating, they have safe, in-person instruction.” Buttigieg is proud to be part of the effort: “I love spending time with these students. They’re so interesting, earnest and thoughtful. It’s very nourishing.”
