Good News for Democrats in the 2018 Midterms!

#1

Post by Orlylicious » Wed Nov 07, 2018 6:36 pm

This topic is just for good news! Tons happened in yesterday's election and it will take weeks to find all the news. Here's the place for good news only!

You know, the "Freedumb Caucus" (which, how sketchy is this: "The House Freedom Caucus does not disclose the names of its members. In the current (115th) Congress, the group has about three dozen members."). has like 35-40 members max. Well, now at least 84 Democratic women were elected to Congress, how about the "New Girls In Town" Caucus? More than double the votes!

Love this story is by a writer named KARMA
More than 100 women elected to Congress in historic midterms
By KARMA ALLEN Nov 7, 2018, 6:50 AM ET
Democrats regain the House as record number of women elected to Congress

A record number of women were elected to Congress on Tuesday night as an unprecedented number of female candidates ran for the first time.

At least 98 women will be elected to the House of Representatives -- 84 Democrats, 14 Republicans -- and 12 will join the Senate -- 10 Democrats, two Republicans -- according to the latest projections by ABC News.

The figure marks an all-time high for the number of women in the House, but the results could fluctuate as more precincts report.

It was also a historic night for first-time female candidates, with several political newbies flipping GOP-held congressional seats, according to ABC News' analysis.

Personally, I'm shocked and thrilled that Dean Phillips actually pulled it off in Minnesota's 3rd District. That's full of wealthy Republicans, so I never thought they'd vote Democratic.

And a fairly convincing margin as well!

So what's the total house pickup at this point? Most of the news organizations have it at 29 but that doesn't include the recent races in Georgia, etc.

I think the expected total does include most of those - basically, all the ones that have been called, and the ones where the Dem is ahead.

NYTimes currently has D+30, which includes the Georgia McBath/Handel race. But doesn't include others that haven't been called (e.g. NJ-3, etc)

No I don't think it does. NYtimes has the flipped seats checkered and there are several on the list that we know Democrats won aren't checkered yet.

There are about 5 more tossup seats that the NYTimes hasn't called yet that are trending blue.

If those are the Cali seats, 538 thinks they will go blue. They're predicting 35 democratic House seats.

Anybody know why all of the Utah races are still nowhere near fully reported? According to NY Times, UT-4 is only about 70% reported. UT-3 is still only 56%! (although not seriously contested, so that one doesn't matter so much...)

Haha, wow. That's kind of insane. I'd never even heard this before, maybe because I was not raised catholic.
