Will Trump cave to North Korea's demands about the joint US/South Korea Maneuvers in order to save the summit next month? I predict yes.

I chose yes, but with the caveat that he will desperately be trying to find a way to do it and be the Alpha male in his own head. If he cant, he won't. The next month will be full of these pointless dick measuring moments.

To Trump this is all about Trump. NK is feeding Trump exactly the way he loves to be fed. Trump's poll numbers are rising because of high expectations. Trump will give away both his right and left nuts if he has to in order have the one-day summit listed as his accomplishment.

Too bad Trump couldn't have known about the military exercises in advance. :daydream:

Definitely yes. He'll do whatever it takes (using his like, very smart genius) to get the Nobel Prize. He's determined to show his nemesis, Obama, that he can surpass him. Not saying he'll accomplish his goal, but he's sure gonna try.

As if.

Trump is so hated internationally, that if he singlehandedly solved the Arab-Israeli conflict as well as denuked the Korean Peninsula he wouldn't get a vote from the Nobel committee.

He'll say no in public, while the operations stop. When someone reports the operations have stopped he will just say Fake News. Sarah Huckabee will say she hasn't talked to him about it. In a couple weeks, Mike Pompeo will say the operations concluded as scheduled.

Stern, my last sentence describes only what I think he's aiming for, not the result. I totally agree with your assessment.

At least there's that. Trump is so transparent about wanting a Nobel because Obama got one. To the point that he self-promotes. I think that, in itself, would be disqualifying.

I'm going to say "No." because Trump is stupid enough to not realize that North Korea will use it as a reason to walk away.

He still thinks that he will get a better deal than with Iran, and get North Korea to abide by it, and convince them that they won't walk away from this one. Kim Jong Un is playing Trump like a fiddle. Trump's not going to cancel the joint military exercise. North Korea will publicly say that Trump isn't serious about a fair and equitable deal with North Korea, and will use it as an excuse to walk away from the negotiations.

North Korea will then be able to basically tell their main ally China, "We tried negotiation. The United States isn't serious enough to even cancel joint military exercises designed to intimidate us." China will use it as an excuse to not abide by the sanctions, and North Korea will get exactly what they wanted.

Well reasoned. Not sure I agree but it made me think twice about my vote.

I said “other.” Whatever the most ill-advised, catastrophic choice happens to be at some point, Trump will choose that.

I voted NO cuz Trump will be pissed about being played and pushed around. This will be his initial reaction.

Too, also, dunst has great reasoning.

Looks like events and Little Rocket Man have outrun us all.

Kim wants concessions from Trump and Trump, desperate as he is, won't give them because the Korean Peninsula will not be denuclearized. When Kim said the Libya model wouldn't work (which ends up with the regime overthrown, with help from the U.S.), anyone in the Administration with a brain had to know it was all over. Problem is, there may be no one in the Administration who knows it's all over.

No, because cancelling the exercises would be open the door to the inevitable DPRK demand for all US troops to be removed from the Korean Peninsula. Trump probably would want to give that, considering his obsession with other countries "not paying us enough to protect them," but I fully expect SecDef Mattis and all of the Joint Chiefs would threaten to resign rather than carry out that order.

There were reports that FOTUS had to be talked out of removing all Troops from the Korea a month or so back by Kelly.

Translation of entire statement by NK. NOTE! No specific mention of THE STAR!!! Just "the Trump Administration." Lots of mentions of Bolton. Bolton better get his grovelling lips in gear as Trump is going to feel ignored and pissed about this.

They really have read their adversary, haven't they?

Probably didn't help that Trump backed out of the Iran deal while at the same time offering a similar deal to NK.
