Al Jazeera, the Qatar-based news network that has previously sought to become a liberal media force in the US, is launching a platform to target conservatives, it was revealed on Tuesday.

The new effort, called Rightly, will target Republicans who “feel left out of mainstream media”, Politico reported, and will be led by a former Fox News journalist.

Al Jazeera became a significant presence in the US in 2013, when it launched the left-leaning Al Jazeera America news channel and website. The network, which is based in Doha and funded by the state of Qatar, closed down the US-facing TV channel in 2016, but has remained a significant presence online with its AJPlus video network. Its international channel – Al Jazeera English – is popular in the US.

The launch of a conservative effort comes at a time of increasing extremism in existing rightwing US news sources.

Fox News, the go-to news channel for the American right, has lurched even further right as it faces threats from new, ultra-conservative TV channels NewsMax and One America News.

Politico reported that Scott Norvell, a former Fox News staffer, will be editor-in-chief of Rightly, which will launch its first conservative-focused show on Thursday.

Pamela Brown, who now has the weekend anchor spot on CNN (3on Pacific) says she'll have former acting whatever Chad Wolf tomorrow. Based is what I've seen on her new lineup, it should be worth tuning in. Prepared and doesn't give up. She sliced and diced Madison whatever his name is and he had no clue she won.

Also, George Takei up shortly to discuss the recent hate attacks on Asian Americans. For the younger Fogbowzers, Taken was on the original Star Trek series, and he family was in an internment camp during WWII.

"The Dan Bongino Show" will air on the radio Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. starting May 24, the press release states.

"I'm excited to embrace the immense power of radio to connect with my listeners live for three hours every day," Bongino said. "This is an incredible privilege, and I pledge to honor the trailblazing work of those who came before me."

Limbaugh, an influential, controversial and immensely popular conservative pundit, died at the age of 70 after he lost his battle to stage 4 lung cancer.

Bongino was a Secret Service agent before he became a political pundit. He has been a staunch supporter of former President Trump.

New Lineup to Debut in April

Today, CNN announced changes to its weekday morning and dayside lineup, with new assignments for Victor Blackwell, Ana Cabrera, Alisyn Camerota and Brianna Keilar. In addition, the network announced new roles for Jim Acosta and Boris Sanchez on weekends. These changes will be effective in April.

Laura Jarrett and Christine Romans will continue to anchor Early Start from 5-6 am.

John Berman and Brianna Keilar will anchor New Day from 6-9 am, weekdays. Keilar most recently anchored CNN Right Now from 1-3pm weekdays. Prior to that, she was CNN’s White House correspondent during the Obama Administration. Berman has been co-anchor of New Day for the last two and a half years.

Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto will continue to anchor CNN Newsroom from 9-11 am.

Kate Bolduan will continue to anchor At this Hour from 11am-noon.

John King will continue to anchor Inside Politics with John King weekdays from noon-1pm. The network’s chief national correspondent, he will also continue to have a key role in all political coverage.

Ana Cabrera, who has anchored CNN’s weekend newscasts for the last four years, will now anchor CNN Newsroom weekdays from 1-2 pm.

Alisyn Camerota and Victor Blackwell will now anchor CNN’s afternoon Newsroom coverage from 2-4 pm. Camerota has anchored CNN’s morning program, New Day, for the last six years, the longest tenure of any weekday morning show anchor in recent CNN history, and, along with Berman, has led CNN to its largest audiences ever in the morning. Blackwell has anchored CNN’s Weekend New Day for the last nine years.

With the move of Cabrera and Blackwell to CNN’s weekday lineup, CNN also finalized its new weekend lineup:

Boris Sanchez will join Christi Paul as co-anchor of Weekend New Day on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Sanchez previously served as a CNN White House correspondent.

Fredricka Whitfield will continue to anchor CNN Newsroom’s midday coverage on Saturdays and Sundays.

Jim Acosta will anchor CNN Newsroom on Saturdays and Sundays from 3-6pm. As previously announced, Acosta has also been named the network’s chief domestic correspondent. Prior to this new role, he covered the White House for CNN for the past seven years, having served as Chief White House Correspondent since 2018.

As previously announced, Pamela Brown now anchors CNN Newsroom on Saturdays and Sundays from 6-9pm. She also serves as Senior Washington correspondent for CNN.

Brianna at 6 AM? I loved her in the 1-3 PM spot. I'm not so likely to see her at 6 AM.

Rea!ly cute clip from Camerota's new afternoon co-host Victor Blackwell. He kept starting a letter, only to keep getting the spelling of her first name wrong 😊

Looking forward to seeing Blackwell outside the early early weekend newscast. He rarely showed much emotion until Trump attacked Baltimore. Wowza, that was an impAssioned speech Blackwell gave defending his hometown.

I hope the 6-9 AM change works out. We occasionally watch CNN in the morning and gave up on Joe Schmoe and Mika Mouse on MSNBC. We find them nauseating especially since Biden took office.

I like John Berman, he can hold his own with Kelleyanne and the other Trump sycophants, I hope he develops the same camaraderie he had with Camerota.

Thanks for that update, Kendra! A lot of deck chair moving, don't see all the reasons. Would have liked seeing some young, fresh faces. We try to catch John King when possible, we like him. And agree about Brianna, Andy, loved her at 1-3pm, guess lots did so they're putting her with Berman.

Overall, like many, we're very happy with the Biden Administration and don't need to look all the time anymore for disaster or incompetence from DL2XIT & Co. We've watched little TV news, it's easy to catch up online (and here at The Fogbow, of course). It's funny how the Trumpers constantly whine about YouTube view counts, news channel ratings, and the like -- they simply can't understand that we voted for Biden so we could do other things in life. Have a Twitter list called Clowns with about 100 of the goofiest Trumpers... they will pile on the dumbest, most irrelevant things since they are now powerless and have nothing else to talk about.

Blech. Hadn't noticed that John Catsimatidis bought WABC in 2019. Disney should never have let him keep that call sign. About the only thing worse than Charlie Kirk during lunch from noon-1pm is... Charlie Kirk from noon-3pm.
Turning Point's Charlie Kirk Added to NY's WABC Talk Lineup
By Brian Trusdell | Friday, 09 April 2021 05:49 PM

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk has been added to the afternoon talk programming format at WABC in New York, joining the station that launched the nationally syndicated career of Rush Limbaugh, the station announced Friday.

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point — a political advocacy group aimed at high school and college-age students — will take the noon to 1 p.m. slot, the first hour of Limbaugh’s old program time.

''I am thrilled and honored to take the same time and station where my friend and American hero Rush Limbaugh launched his national radio show in 1988,'' Kirk said on WABC’s website.

The 27-year-old Kirk has been on the Salem Radio Network from noon to 3 p.m. Eastern time since Oct. 5.

Kirk joins WABC’s lineup of conservative voices such as Greg Kelly, Rudy Giuliani, Bill O’Reilly and Brian Kilmeade. Limbaugh, who died in February, launched his national show in 1988 with WABC as the flagship station of a network that grew to 650 stations before he moved across town to rival WOR in 2014.

''Charlie Kirk has proven to be one of the bright lights of the conservative movement,'' said billionaire busineman John Catsimatidis, who bought WABC in 2019. ''He’s young, energetic, articulate, and proving to be a great radio talent.''

Me too. I'm one of those who is happy with her new time slot--that's when I often keep an eye on the TV (anything is an improvement from scarborough). New look for her--it's hard to recognize her face (she does the new look every now and then), but the voice (and delivery) is the same and instantly recognizable.

She is good at them. I'm often up around 3AM until I nod back off, so looking forward to more. They got a whole new set and music to go with the change in anchors.

Looking forward to seeing more of Victor Blackwell in his new slot paired with Alisyn (sp?) Camerota. He was kind of dull in the early early weekend lineup, but he's got great possibilities. Dang, first day in the new lineup and they only got about 15 minutes during break in the trial for a good discussion.

I caught the last hour this morning. I just have to get in the habit of putting her on in the morning when I attend that early. I never did watch Scarborough, though, so I'm not really in the habit of watching news at that hour of the morning. I read it was better for your sanity (during the former days) to not get into the news too early in the day.

Definitely. I'm up and pottering between 6 and 8, and during chaotic political times, I'd check in to see if there was someone I wanted to hear (on MJ). Now that Biden is in, the show has reverted to both sides do it, with Joe handling the "Dems did these EXACT things they bitch about when I was in office...).

Watching Boehner promoting his book this week, I was reminded strongly of joe. Same sanctimony, same attempts at self-effacement that come off as the arrogance they are, same not-very-well hidden attack on Democrats.

Drudge Report Drops Links to Gateway Pundit, Several Conservative Sites — One-time Conservative Aggregator Sees Traffic Plunge
By Kristinn Taylor
Published April 28, 2021 at 1:40pm

The Drudge Report’s drift from its original Internet rebelliousness took another step into mainstream irrelevance with a purge this week of links to pioneering conservative sites The Gateway Pundit, World Net Daily, Free Republic, Daily Wire and Western Journal, and Lucianne.com. Also reportedly gone are links to the late Rush Limbaugh’s site and columnist David Limbaugh. Infowars and ZeroHedge survived the purge, however one report observed ZeroHedge was delisted for a time this week.

The Drudge Report has gone through a sharp change in recent years leading to speculation about whether reclusive owner-editor Matt Drudge secretly sold the site and relinquished control. Regardless, the site is not what it used to be and has lost substantial traffic. Last month the Press Gazette reported the Drudge Report lost over forty percent of its traffic year-on-year from February 2020 to February 2021, “Influential conservative news aggregation site the Drudge Report saw its year-on-year visits fall by 41% from 71.4 million to 42.4 million.”

World Net Daily’s Joseph Farah wrote about being delinked by Drudge (excerpt):
It was a good ride.

Drudge and WND. Matt Drudge and Joseph Farah. They started the internet’s news revolution together, friendly and daring, 24 years ago. It took one day, April 26, 2021, to drop the original name, WorldNetDaily, and all links from drudgereport.com.

That’s when Drudge – or whoever is calling the shots at the DrudgeReport – finally “canceled” WND. For many years, WND included a permanent link to Drudge above the fold. That was when a Drudge link was a sign of the kind of site you ran – a Drudge-type site.

In the early days, WND had the distinguished honor of having more links back on Drudge than any other website. Joseph Farah was the second one. How did I achieve it way back in the ’90s? I simply asked for it. Yes, Drudge and I had a real relationship. That’s how I knew in recent years that it wasn’t Drudge in charge. He sold it – or sold out.
A report by NewsAmmo this week noted the delinkings (excerpt):

“Last night I was on Drudge and I think I first noticed there was no Zero Hedge link at the bottom. Then I noticed no World Net Daily either, and no Lucianne.com, or Free Republic. Those 3 sites have all been around since the late 90s and Drudge always linked to them as far as I know. Then I seen the Limbaugh brothers (David and Rush) were missing from the people links section.”

A check of Drudge on Friday shows the ZeroHedge link restored, but all the others mentioned are gone.

A review of the columnists linked by Drudge shows how old, stale and out of touch the Drudge Report has become. Nary a columnist listed came to prominence during the Trump era. Many of the writers listed have been in politics since the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Young blood and new thinkers are not to be found at Drudge anymore. Drudge had a good, fearless run for two decades. Many of us on the conservative side owe him a debt of gratitude and appreciation. But all good things come to an end and so it is with the Drudge Report.

Note: This writer once gave Drudge the shirt off my back so he could wear it inside the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in 2000. The t-shirt had on the front the Pulitzer Prize winning Alan Diaz/AP photo of young Cuban refugee Elian Gonzalez being taken at gunpoint by a federal agent under Clinton’s orders to be returned to Cuba. The caption on the shirt read, “Clinton’s Legacy For The Children”. Drudge came upon the annual protest of liberal media bias outside the press dinner held by the D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic, com. Drudge admired the Elian shirt I was wearing, so I offered it to him. Matt tucked the shirt inside his tuxedo jacket and donned it once inside, walking up to face down President Clinton while wearing the shirt.
