I really want the next infrastructure bill to have some kind of provision that says when they hand out the big checks the guy has to disclose how that state's Congressional Delegation voted on it.

DeSantis appoints former Florida education commissioner Corcoran to Board of Governors
State Sen. Manny Diaz, Corcoran’s replacement, to start job Wednesday

Published: May 29, 2022, 2:02 PM

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday tapped former state education commissioner Richard Corcoran to serve on the state university system’s Board of Governors.

The Board of Governors oversees Florida’s 12 state universities and is tasked with such responsibilities as adopting regulations designed to carry out state laws related to higher education.

Corcoran, a former Republican House speaker, served three years as the state’s top education official overseeing Florida’s public-school and college systems. During his time at the helm of the state education department, Corcoran was a close ally of DeSantis on contentious issues such as efforts to prevent school districts from enacting mask requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic and to bar critical race theory from public-school curriculums.

Corcoran also was a key figure in the state’s decision to reopen schools in the early days of the pandemic, which DeSantis for the past two years has touted as a major political victory.

Desantis will veto the bill to fund the Tampa Rays new Spring Training facility because of their recent statements about gun violence following the Buffalo and Uvalde mass shootings.

They tweeted well sourced facts, which apparently have no place in Florida.

The statement that reportedly caused Desantis to punish the Rays.

They'd probably get better attendance in Vegas if they wanted to move. They could also, much easier, move their spring training to Arizona but Krom knows what the phuck Wendy Rogers would do to prove she's a bigger asshole with a bigger dick than Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis wields actual power, Rogers just flaps her gums.

Wait until the players, not teams, just start refusing to play in asshole states.

Desantis was asked if his veto of funding for Tampa Rays facility was because of their stance on gun violence: “Companies are free to engage or not engage in whatever political discourse they want .. (But) it is inappropriate to subsidize political activism of a private company.”

Special Olympics reverses vaccine requirement after Florida threatens $27.5M fine

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday during a press conference hailed the decision by the Special Olympics to reverse the vaccine mandate as a win for the thousands of athletes who are expected to compete in the games.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Special Olympics reversed its Covid-19 vaccine mandate for upcoming competitions in Orlando after Florida threatened event organizers with a $27.5 million fine over the requirement.

The Special Olympics issued a statement on Friday saying it will lift its mandate as directed by state officials on May 27 “based upon the Florida Department of Health’s interpretation of Florida law.”

This year’s Special Olympics USA Games are set to kick off Sunday and will wrap up on June 12. The event is expected to attract 4,000 athletes.

The Florida Department of Health sent a letter to Special Olympics International threatening the $27.5 million fine on Thursday. A copy of the letter, first reported on Twitter by ABC News, states that the Special Olympics had asked 5,500 people to provide proof of vaccination in order to gain access into the 2022 USA Special Olympics Games, which violates a state ban on requiring proof of vaccination. :snippity:
Why are they holding this in Florida, anyway? It's obvious they are not wanted.

Huh. Guess they don't care about the health of their athletes. Also, they made DeSantis the Co-Chair of the 2022 Special Olympics. Not an organization to support.

Yep. I don't think they realize that the type of people who support them are not the type of people who will support this decision. Really bad choice.

That was a typo, they were inviting him to compete.
