Thanks, I'll let him know. I'm sure he's not expecting to give up his day job anytime soon.

I decided against calling an opera a single song so I did not include Siegfried or Don Carlo and get to the nearly 5 hour mark.

I would put up a recording of Organ2/ASLSP (As Slow as Possible) by John Cage but it is still being performed at St. Burchardi church in Halberstadt. It started 20 years 5 months ago and is not scheduled to finish until 2640. The next note will be in February 2024.

The shorter piano version goes from 20 to 70 minutes.

Thirty years ago I got my first computer with a sound card (sound card cost a fortune) and once I got it put together, I celebrated by blasting "Jimmie Olsen's Blues" out of my fancy speakers. Everytime I got a new computer I'd celebrate the same way, but somewhere in the 2000's I stopped. Probably because I stopped assembling a desktop and switched to laptops that were just as good. That Spin Doctor's link above brought it all back. I'll have to go dig the album out of the basement.

No, no. not going to stay up and listen to this. Bit of a shock to see Abbado so old. When I was following the orchestral world very closely he was a young man. :?

Great choice, First Grandson! He remembered it well. Bugs Bunny in tails, just the jacket, sits at a grand piano, grooms his ears down and back, and begins to play slowly....ending exhausted playing a feverish Hungarian dance. Piano breaks. End.

Fela Kuti / Africa 70 had some grueling long sets. 10 minutes were his short songs. To play in his band, you had to have some stamina.

He had a method. Open with a long instrumental to get the people groovin, and then sing his song. They were always topical political messages of the day that got the government angry at him. This song is about the violence waged by the police against him in November 1974 with axes and cutlasses (short swords).

Fela's Army Arrangement should be required listening. It won't be everyone's favorite. He's a master of dissonance. IE: using dissonant chords with the band out sync as if they are an amateur school group. Then they tighten up as if the sky cleared and the sun shone in. My brain loves it. Yours may melt. Almost an hour non-stop.

I alawys admired Bugs for that performance. It is hard enough playing the piano with 5 fingers on each hand, but with only 4 it's really something else.
