Here is why you should ignore the NY Times-Siena battleground poll
Director of Data and Analytics at ABC News/538, G. Elliot Morris tweeted:

three reminders about polling:

(1) individual polls are subject to a lot of sampling + nonsampling error
(2) partisan nonresponse can impact different demographic groups differently
(3) polls taken 360 days before an election are not predictive of outcomes

— G Elliott Morris (@gelliottmorris) November 5, 2023

The University of Virginia’s Larry Sabato tweeted:

For those moaning about the latest NYTimes/Siena Poll:

–Election is a full year away.
–Biden’s likely opponent faces 91 counts in multiple jurisdictions.
–Economy is clearly improving, but it takes many months for voters to perceive and believe it.

Keep calm. Carry on.

I want to know who is still answering unknown calls. Even my mother, bless her soul, in her 90s quit answering the phone if she didn't know the caller.

:callonme: Ever since Covid, my desk phone rings through to my cell phone, so I pick up and answer "Greetings!" This confuses the bots, so if I don't get an immediate response, I know it's safe to hang up. It doesn't solve the issue of the politician on the east side of the state who gave the wrong number once, so I get a lot of political calls for "Steven" (or sometimes his wife). I'm about 5 weeks away from those calls starting up again.

I have a ton of customers with numbers not in my contact list. So, answering unknown callers is SOP for me. Oregon has an area code is 503. California has an area code 530. So, I have been getting calls for Diane (whoever she is) for a long time. Including her parole officer. Same number. Different area codes. Usually the calls come in the evening. Usually they sound a little buzzed. Sometimes a lot. Sometimes the guys just ask for her, I say she's not in, and they hang up and I block that number. Sometimes they get really wound up and demand to talk to her RIGHT NOW!!! I hang up and definitely block THAT number.

It's been interesting.

I simply ignore MOST phone #s that are out of my area and from where I know I have no personal acquaintances. Many of the BS numbers get blocked by a spam thing. Almost always the ones that get though to VM are robocall.

They are getting sneaky as they are using AI to prompt responses. Some of them sound convincing. I like to throw them off when I do answer. " Oh, hey. What did you have for lunch today?". The AI robocaller will quickly get confused with random Qs and will abandon the call.

I have adopted my Millennial and GenX kids’ method: I never, under any circumstances, answer my phone, which is always on mute and goes directly to voicemail. I’ll go three or four days without even glancing at missed calls. Life is good without a phone. Ditto texts. Ditto emails.

I do confess that when Hubs was sick, I answered a few unknown calls concerned they may have been a visiting nurse or therapist. If I wasn't sure what I was talking to, I would ask, are you human? That also throws them.

I have USAA insurance and they called me about something, and the guy sounded *exactly* like a computer. I asked, are you human? He laughed and said, “Yeah, I know I sound like a computer. I get that a lot.” Which is something a computer has actually said to me before. I was like, sorry, dude, I’m not convinced.

Autodialers have a function that won't connect the phone to the caller unless somebody says hello twice (or maybe other greetings as well). Since most folks start their greeting with hello, the design is to prevent connecting the caller to a voicemail greeting. If hello is said twice, that is most often a sign that it is a real person so the autodialer will connect.

Sometimes I'm expecting a call from a small business where I know they might be using a cell phone, so then I'll answer numbers I don't recognize. I'll say Hello once, and wait. For the robo-calls, after a couple of seconds I'll hear a little whoop sound. I don't wait to see if anyone comes on the line at that point. I hang up.

Hah! I just got a work call, proving why I need to answer the phone. Also, it appears my work phone is no longer dialing through, or perhaps the number the person had was wrong. :confuzzled:

Also, :hijacked: but that's as much a sign of how true the topic title is

Donald J. Trump (low energy) answers all the spam calls. His staff gives him fake credit cards so he can't renew the warranty on the Mierda Lardo fleet of Yugos and Trabants.

There. We're back on topic, just like that. :oldman:

That's what I heard on the radio this AM, 5,200 seats and while it wasn't exactly sparse, it wasn't SRO only either. His crowds are dwindling, perhaps.

[WASHED-UP FORMER] TV superstar-turned-MAGA comic Roseanne Barr took her rally speech to 11 with an ear-splitting call-and-response in which she dubbed former President Donald Trump “the MAGA-DOR” who would slay the “DEEP STATE BULL!”

Barr — whose career imploded after a racist tweet that was followed by other unhinged tweets — was one of several opening acts.

At one point, Barr segued from talking about her unsuccessful 2012 run for president to leading the crowd in an ear-splitting call-and-response inspired by a custom jacket that featured Trump.

Rosanne Barr probably got a better response from the crowd than Tramp did, so she wont be at another of his weaksauce rallies.

People have been saying he gets around 3000 people at his rallies for a while, so that tracks as being his usual shitty numbers. He has 3000 diehards that travel wherever he goes, and that's it.
