To be honest, I saw 88 for a convoy group and it had me thinking it was the hate groups' use of 88. Granted, I know more of this stuff than various folks after having followed it for decades now. Given some of their supporters, I would not have been surprised.

I looked through their one-page-only site for any signs that point to anything and found nothing (especially looking for codes words such as 14 or some of the words in 14 words). I was sort of hoping they would have some section explaining their name, even if it was a lame attempt to distract those of us who were thinking it might be the HH use.

I checked the registration and host for this and nothing is unusual. Registrar is Network Solutions and they are hosted on Google domain hosting

Police say they're aware of upcoming protests and are 'planning accordingly'

Ottawa police say they expect more protests and larger than usual crowds during Canada Day celebrations in the capital this July as groups related to the Freedom Convoy continue to plan protests.

In a statement, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) said it is "working with Canada Day organizers and our policing partners to implement a public safety plan that allows all Canadians and visitors to freely and safely enjoy the capital during this celebration."

Significant road closures and an increased police presence are expected. Police say additional resources from other services are being brought in.

Several groups — most formed out of the Freedom Convoy — are planning protests in Ottawa throughout the summer, including many of the key figures and prominent streamers involved in the ongoing "Freedom Movement."

TORONTO — The trial opened Tuesday for two of the main organizers of the so-called “Freedom Convoy” demonstrations that paralyzed Canada’s capital, snarled trade at critical U.S.-Canada border crossings and spurred copycats from New Zealand to the Washington Beltway.

Tamara Lich and Chris Barber face charges including mischief, obstructing police and counseling others to commit mischief in the weeks-long protests against pandemic health measures and the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The spectacle of trucks and crowds in the streets making downtown Ottawa virtually impassable last year drew international attention — and support and money from some in the United States.

In the aftermath, authorities have also come under scrutiny. The city’s police chief resigned during the protests. A public inquiry this year found that the response to the protests was marred by failures in policing and finger-pointing over jurisdiction among officials at all levels of government.

Lich and Barber are among the most prominent of the 140 people who were charged in Ottawa, and their case is likely to draw national attention because of what it might portend for other defendants and the movement more broadly.

Mischief can encompass activity ranging from erasing computer data to torching a building. Offenders face life sentences in cases where they endanger others, analysts said, but most who are convicted don’t serve time or are sentenced to time served.

“On the legal side, it’s kind of a boring case, a banal case,” said Joao Velloso, a law professor at the University of Ottawa. “But the stakes are high on the public opinion and political side because while other protesters already pleaded guilty a long time ago, they didn’t … and trials provide a stage” for their narrative.

The vigilance of two mothers on the Messenger app made it possible to pinch a 38-year-old man for computer decoys on teenage girls.

Jean-François Villeneuve, of Lévis, admitted his guilt on two decoy counts and a leader of sexual contact last Friday at the Quebec courthouse.

The 38-year-old man never denied having committed the offences. He had made a full confession when he was arrested in July 2023.

"He says he is attracted to young girls. He would have liked to have taken pictures of them, but would not have touched them. He is aware that what he has done makes no sense,” says Anne-Frédérique Coulombe in a statement of the facts before Judge Marie-Claude Gilbert.
