Cy Vance's team plans to bring narrowly focused charges in its probe of the Trump Organization, says Ron Fischetti.

According to Fischetti, members of Vance’s team said they were considering bringing charges against the Trump Organization and its individual employees related to alleged failures to pay taxes on corporate benefits and perks. It has been widely reported that those perks included cars and apartments and appear to only involve a small number of executives.

Is it plausible that the "small number of executives" who are in trouble for fringe benefits know something about misvaluation of properties?

Fischetti also said that Vance’s team told him they will not bring charges against Trump himself when the first indictment comes down.

“They just said, ‘When this indictment comes down, he won’t be charged. Our investigation is ongoing,’” he said
This sounds to me like "round one." Subsequent rounds could get much tougher for the Trump Crime Family.

I'd add, back on point, that banks won't, and usually legally cannot, do business with a criminal enterprise, so once a company has been convicted in a criminal case, they'd better not have $300 million in loans they need to re-finance in the next 6 months :smoking:

Trump may never go to jail because Cy Vance got him, but its probably better than even odds he's gonna lose everything he has and will need to live on his government pension. Losing his (well the Trump Organization's) beloved properties would be fate worth than prison for Trump. To live in even a spacious single-family home would be awful for him. All of his current residences are within larger facilities where he can be seen by others as the big dog in charge. Living in a house like Obama, or even a ranch like Bush has would not provide that. He needs his adoring customers and tenants, and some wedding to crash to lift his whine for a toast.

Shrub ditched the ranch shortly after leaving the White House. It was always a political prop. He and Laura live in a very upscale area of Dallas proper, more in keeping with a retired wealthy Yalie. No dispute with your assessment of Satan though.

Of course. It was always a character he created. If you saw the debate he had when he ran for congress and lost he had no drawl spoke plainly and articulately. Even here in his campaign video he barely sounds like the guy we know now

I'm torn. Which punishment is worse; Trump having to live as an average lower-working class person or a few years in prison?

Without his wealth, Trump suffers tremendous humiliation. Prison makes Trump a martyr to his base. While prison would be humiliating, not many people would witness his humiliation.

Trump is all about appearances and branding.

I guess I'm going with prison being a worse punishment. At Trump's age, any prison time will be a life sentence.

However, while many think it's possible that Trump could be sentenced to prison, I don't think Trump will. IF he is criminally indicted, he'll drag the entire process out as long as possible ... IF he has the personal funds to do so.

I don't know. Even in prison, TFG won't be able to keep his mouth shut.

Anthony Williams, and Heather Tucci-Jarraf have been able to have their voices heard from behind bars.

Trump has a lot more followers than either of them. As long as he has telephone and/or email privileges, he will find someone who will breathlessly post his drivel. This would allow the outside world to witness his humiliation.

While I'm sure that he would claim that he was getting the truth out, (most) everyone else would see it for what it would be, a stupid voice, crying in the wilderness, complaining that he was wronged. The faithful would eat it up and keep him in the public eye.

But the public won't see Trump in prison clothing, eating prison food, very bald, and being ordered around by COs. Trump won't have enough hairspray to keep his lovely coiffure in place.
They won't see his 6x9 cell. They never got see his commissary orders and visitors log because those can be released to the public upon request.

Trump will be able to rage/whine to his herd, but Trump is all about image. He knows that as long as he looks rich people will believe he's rich. He will be furious to be reduced to a bald, pasty, elderly guy in an orange jumpsuit. (Scotts cannot pull off orange.)

Does this mean they also have tax records on the employees who didn't claim their perks? Would they have been notified early on of their involvement in the investigation?

Took the new puppy Rosie to Petco for some "stuff" earlier and was thinking about this. My solution is "why not both!?" Sentence him home confinement with an ankle monitor because of his delicate health. Of course, the courts will strip him of his wealth, his wife will divorce him and his kids will abandon him after his conviction. He'll be radioactive to anyone who could even remotely be of any help to him, financial or otherwise, and nobody will take his calls. He'll have to live on the budget of his presidential retirement alone, run the risk of people protesting on his front lawn, lose all his businesses, and nobody will give him a second thought beyond shaking their head in pity if they happen to cross paths with him. I would even advocate they reinstate him on FB and twitter so the entire world can see him for who he really is. His grifting would amount to zero because any penny he made beyond his retirement or SS would go towards whatever fines and judgments are levied against him, for the rest of his life.

So, I vote for no prison. I want his crazy, stupid, malicious ass on full display for anyone who wants to ride by his split-level ranch and honk their horn and laugh.

We know Vance's team has relevant the tax returns from the skating rink manager (Wiesselberg's son) because his ex-wife has told the world about turning them over. I think it's likely they have other returns as well.

I don't think it's normal practice to notify targets of a grand jury investigation that they're being investigated.

I think that he will always have followers and sycophants, no matter what happens to him. If your scenario came to pass, there would still be those who believed that he won the 2020 election and will contribute to a GoFundMe campaign to help him make house payments. Many of those will be people who can't really afford it, but there will be some rich people and politicians who will stroke his eqo and feed his belly.

I share your fantasy, but no court is going to leave a person without resources to live, albeit in a greatly reduced status. He may be reduced to living in a three bedroom bungalow in Levittown, but he would always have a roof over his head and three squares a day.

That all depends on the terms. If she initiates the divorce proceedings without a reason specified in the agreement, she may get nothing, or very little. She probably has to catch him in bed with another woman. Knowing Trump, however, he probably deliberately left infidelity out of the list of causes.

I remember hearing, when he and Ivana got divorced, that she got $26M. Someone interviewed a guy on the street in NY who said, "Heck, for $26M on the way out, I'D marry him". And this was long before same sex marriage became legal. I don't remember which one sued for divorce.

$26M probably wouldn't last very long for Melania, unless she is willing to downsize her standard of living, which I doubt she will do.

As long as she can live the good life with minimal contact with TFG, she'll probably stay by him. She may be hoping that, at 75, he won't last much longer and will remember her generously in his will. She might get a lot more from his estate than she would from a prenup.
