Now I want a bratwurst and a beer.

***

Speaking of food, I had an unusual chance meeting in the bread aisle at Safeway yesterday. As I was craning for Mrs' favorite 100% whole wheat, a woman was gathering several loaves of sandwich bread from the lowest shelf. They were on sale. Regularly $1.69 - on sale for $1.31. She didn't have a basket or a cart. She simply tucked them under her arm until she had six or more loaves, and then proceeded to the self checkout steps away from the bread aisle.

Mrs' favorite bread was missing entirely. I found the label on the shelf, but the wrong product was there. So, I was looking for an acceptable alternative when I almost stepped on the woman. She had returned. So I quipped she must have a lot of mouths to feed. She responded "We do. Our church group is making sandwiches for the homeless, and the register is charging the wrong price, not the sale price." I pointed out it is a digital coupon that you have to load on your phone app to get the better price.

She looked at me quizzically. Considering her mission, I pulled out my wallet and offered a fiver to cover the difference. She thanked me for the offer, reassured me they were well off, that they were in oil and gas, that money wasn't an issue, thanked me again, and finished with a blessing for my kindness. All I could really say at that point was "You're welcome", and let her return to the checkout.

She was back seconds later with all the bread under arm again returning it to the bottom shelf a bit worse for the wear. I had decided upon Dave's Killer Bread simply WW loaf. I gave her a smile, and rounded the corner.

The digital coupon confusion I can understand. But, who goes shopping for lots of bread without getting at least a hand basket, and then quibbles over thirty eight cents? The universe is filled with mysteries.

I haven't tried that yet, but I want to. I usually get Whole Wheat, Powerseed or 21 Grains and Seeds, depending on what's available.

Leavenworth is a cute little town, but the trip through the Cascades on US 2 is the real star, IMO.

Leavenworth is too touristy (don't go during Christmas, you won't be able to move due to the crowds), but US 2 is definitely worth the drive over the Stevens Pass Greenway.

The Hallmark Channel makes so many movies in Leavenworth WA they have their own production office with a bunkhouse for one hundred craft members and a kitchen that would make the Pentagon envious.

So Rochester (he's my robot vacuum cleaner) started up all by himself in the middle of the night again.

The timer was NOT set.

I suspect feline felonious fiddling. :confuzzled:
Edit: I had to tape a quarter over the power switch to my UPS, the damned cat turned off my whole system.

You could trade in for a dog... They are less ingenious (curious) and will always show a guilty face if they do wrong. Cats, not so much.

We only made the trip over once during the Christmas season, and you're right. Plus, that road can get ugly in a hurry in the winter. The first few years we lived out there we had a little green Miata and top down, zipping along those curvy mountain roads is a great way to see the Cascades in the summer (wearing a jacket, windows up and the heat on as you get to higher elevations).

I had a convertible Fiat Spyder that I loved to drive in the winter just like you…top down, windows up, heater blasting.

Of course California winters aren’t your winters (unless you happen to live in California  ). I doubt it was much over 45 all those “chilly”nights.

Save your savings and get shareholders to pick on management and have them rededicate the tool to Invermectin consumers and Qcumbersomes ;)
