ETA: Here's another. A young native German speaker who thinks that some English words are better, not ugly like the German. I like that she speaks with an American English accent.
I like "Shit Wing". Imma gonna start calling 'em that.

She doesn't have an American accent - but she does sound like she learned English as a second language in America.
True, she has a German accent, but she is attempting an American accent with its r's and non-British vowels. I'm not sure she's spent much time in America, but my understanding is that a German can choose learning English with an American accent if they desire. I'm sure others here know much more about this.

ETA: Behold! I just found this. The very same young woman explains why she thinks she speaks with an American accent even though she was supposed to have been taught a British accent in school. It's kind of interesting...

Why Do GERMANS speak AMERICAN ENGLISH?

Speaking of German, here's a German language rap song I love. It's also becoming background video for uncounted thousands of TikTok and Instagram videos.

Apparently, this is a reworking of a German nursery rhyme/tongue twister that riffs on the similarity between the words "Barbara," "rhubarb," "barbarian" and "barber" to great comic effect. The video links to the lyrics in the original German and to the English translation.

It's making me want to start learning German via Duolingo...

One of the researchers who made this observation posted this to her YouTube channel. It's very brief. This was observed in 2022

So has the rearranged melody by Disturbed become the "official" melody for SoS from now on to eternity?

I mean its a good version and all but it isn't the melody that Simon wrote.

Shouldn't we start calling it the "Simon/Decadence Sounds of Silence" like we name the "Bach/Gounod Ave Maria"?

This popped up in my youtubes and I thought it was interesting after the brief discussion of Nazi art policies in the Ron DeSantis thread.

:snippity:

Dumbest thing I’ve heard in weeks.

Yeah, right… Romeo was just a flighty horn-dog. That’s why he was so distraught over Juliet’s ‘death’ he kills himself. And romance at 13 was only a bit premature back then… because infant and childhood mortality was so prevalent, young women were encouraged to marry as soon as they could have children.

This is just another ding-bat attempt to judge the past by the moral standards of the present.

I had no idea this was a thing. As someone said in the comments… “Balance beam but the beam is alive and moving and may spook and is a thousand pounds”

Yeah awsome skill, but really? Pointless as hula hoops or flags on a gymnastics mat. Nice to look at, but really? But yeah, the skill required is out of the park. Must be fun as all get out.
