Scribd now is 3 companies/brands, one is called Everand and has Audiobooks, Ebooks, Magazines, Podcasts and even Sheet Music. It's an interesting and quirky catalog. You get a month free and it's all-you-can-listen to or read. It's like Libby; you just listen to the audiobooks, you don't keep them. At the end of the month, I went to cancel and they offered another free month. Just now it was going to renew for $11.99, when I went to cancel they offered another free month. I signed up through Scribd and then the other services are automatically included. So if you like Audiobooks, you can get up to 3 free months from them (or for sure one month). Merry Audiobook Christmas!

Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. My husband wants to watch the movie, but I always like to listen to the book first if there’s a film adaptation. I’m about 2/3 in. It’s very good.

The Deluge by Stephen Markley. I really liked his first work of fiction Ohio.

Audible is having a two audiobooks for 1 credit sale now. Ends 1/21/24.

This looked fascinating, added it:

Powers and Thrones
A New History of the Middle Ages
By: Dan Jones Length: 24 hrs and 25 mins
“Despite the immensity of the task, renowned historian Jones makes the 1,000-year history of the Middle Ages accessible and utterly fascinating. He does so by consistently applying two techniques, strategic use of primary source material and relatable comparisons to modern times.... The book’s subtitle includes the word new, and deservedly so. This is a refreshing take on a long, complex period in the human story.” (Booklist)

Thank you for the encouragement, it means a lot to me. :bighug:

Every time I go to cancel Everand (which includes SCRIBD too), it keeps offering another free month. They have a ton of audiobooks and often there's no waiting like Libby from the libraries. I've been prepared to have it canceled, but if they want to provide free access ($11.99/month is the price), not saying no.

I'm starting to feel guilty. Honest, I've been ready to cancel because I have 5 audible credits, but just clicking the cancel screen offers yet another free month. It is cool to just have a library without having to own an audiobook (it does have different content from Libby, and often no wait times). Think it's broken? Should I feel bad?

At last, Everand let it cancel without offering a free extension. Between Broward County Library Libby, Hoopla and Audible, the content was mostly the same, but some of the audiobooks with long waits at Libby were available right away with Everand.

The My Name Is Barbra (Streisand) audiobook is amazing, it's 48 hours long! She narrates it and it's like sitting down with her to hear the inside scoop. I've been super lucky to have spent time with her over the years (both through her manager Marty, and my friend Richard Jay Alexander, who produced Les Miz and has been directing her shows for a while), but I never heard the details like this. Just heard the explanation of Stoney End, how it happened, and how she had no idea what the song was about until years later. It's remarkable how much happened to her at such a young age, by her early 20s she accomplished more than most ever will.

And GULP... 80?????

I have been using Audible for the last 4, 5 years. Recently added Libby.

Libby is great, except for no instant gratification. Have to wait for weeks at a time.

I go for SciFi and Fantasy for the most part. Early in Covid lockdown, I got the Audible account with the sole intention of having the amazingly great unabridged version of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The narration was truly exceptional.

I added Audible to my daily walking routine of 5+ miles per day. It greatly eased the stress and anxiety of lock down.

After Tolkien, I went through His Dark Materials and the spinoff. Both with full cast and narration by the author. Loved it.

After that, added anything I could get my hands on by Neil Gaiman, many of which were narrated by the author. Two standouts were American Gods and Stardust.

Along the way, listened to the Foundation series which was excellent, Stranger In A Strange Land also excellent, and lot's of other classic SciFi.

Oh yeah, can't forget about the various productions of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. One of the versions was all of the BBC radio recordings. The narrated version of the books was very enjoyable as well, especially since I was more familiar with the books.

Currently working my way through the Harry Potter series, narrated by Jim Dale. Most excellent. I hear that there is a new version coming soon, narrated by Steven Frye. Can't go wrong with him - I'll check that out for sure.
