NOTE: Foggy, this is not meant as a request to fix something. If you do, I can't stop you, but officially, I am not asking for what is probably a big fix. This is a simple workaround suggestion for users who click links on OldBow.

The links to other topics/posts in the OldBow posts do not work properly because they point to thefogbow.com/forum/ not formerly.thefogbow.com/forum/. A simple workaround is, when you end up with a topic/post unavailable after clicking a Fogbow link on OldBow is to just go to the URL line and add formerly. in front of thefogbow.

So, this:

Code: Select all

https://thefogbow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1741&hilit=dictionary
Becomes

Code: Select all

https://formerly.thefogbow.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=1741&hilit=dictionary

Yeah, that's the ticket. Very helpful information. I might be able to fix that with an edit to the database, but that can be tricky. I think I'll ask the support community, it can't be something that never happened before.

Thanks, n10.

Did you mean all of the links in the Formerly Fogbow posts (the ones that pointed to other Formerly Fogbow posts) were updated or were you replying to something else?

If it was to my comment, it does not appear to have changed as seen in this topic:
https://formerly.thefogbow.com/forum/vi ... hp?t=13090

The links are to fogbow.com so they take you obviously to the new one. In one case, you get the requested topic does not exist and in the other, you get the AZAudit topic. This is obviously due to the NewBow having some of the same GUIDs as the OldBow had in different topics.

Again, there is a user workaround for it. I figured it might be hard to change all those links.

Oh, I get it now. I think. :?

You're saying pre-existing links that are within posts on Formerly Fogbow point to this forum now, when they originally pointed to other posts on what is now Formerly, and I agree, and that's unavoidable. After copy/pasta, those are 'hard coded' into the posts now.

I would have to go through and hard-code them to stay where they are, or something else too drastic to be a fix. Just stick the 'formerly.' in there, you'll get better.

But AFAIK, newly created links to posts that are now on Formerly Fogbow, placed on THIS forum, will work just fine. Each post is numbered, you just:

1. Find the post you want to reference on Formerly,
2. Click on the little number at top left of the post and it copies a correct link, and then
3. Paste it here and it will link to the post on Formerly.

Anyway, I left the house at 6 a.m. today, and I have driven well over 100 miles so far, and had a knee injection followed by a weightlifting class followed by grocery shopping followed by a trip to the rental car agency and I have a rental truck in my driveway, and a guy is on his way to help us load, and then tomorrow we drive it to Wilmington, and so I won't have any further progress until Sunday, if then. Yeah, I might just act like a vegetable and rot on Sunday. Ew.

Me, twice, in the rental office, right in front of the lady: "You rented too big a truck, we need the 12' not the 16' truck."

Later on, I had to leave the rental office to go get our insurance certificate from our car. As I was walking out the door, I said rather loudly to ol' Wifehorn, "SHERIE, DON'T RENT THE 16' ONE, GET THE 12' ONE."

Can you already tell what's coming?

So I get the certificate, and while I'm doing that the lady goes to get our truck and bring it around, and sure as hell she brings around the 16' truck, and I have to say something politely, but it comes out:

"Wait, that isn't the 12' truck."

"Your wife rented the 16' truck."

"No, I'm driving it, and I'm the one with extensive experience moving furniture, and I know how big trucks are inside, and I said THREE TIMES THAT I DID NOT WANT THE SIXTEEN FOOT TRUCK, I WANTED THE TWELVE FOOT TRUCK."

So the poor lady has to take the 16' truck back and bring up the 12' truck, while I turn to ol' Wifehorn and say WTF, LADY?

AND I SWEAR TO EVERY GOD IN THE PANTHEON, HER EXACT WORDS IN REPLY WERE "BUT YOU DIDN'T EXPLAIN ADEQUATELY WHY YOU WANTED THE SMALLER TRUCK SO I COULD UNDERSTAND."

"Are you driving the truck?"
"No."

"Have you ever worked a job moving furniture?"
"No."

"Have you ever driven a rental truck?"
"No."

"And you heard me say THREE TIMES that I didn't want the 16' truck."
"Yeah, but I didn't know why."

She is SO annoying, but this time it was the rental lady who paid the price, because I was not leaving that lot in a 16' truck, so she could sit there trying to rent the wrong truck till the Sun goes dark.

Hey! As long as you're safely home and back in front of the teevee (or streaming phone or computer) at 10:30pm Eastern / 9:30pm Central tonight (Friday) to watch YOU KNOW WHAT on WEtv. You do so much for others, Foggy, tonight this is something you deserve for yourself. :bighug:

Oh, y'know ... I didn't really grill her like that. But she did work SO HARD at renting the wrong truck that the poor lady had to do an extra trip to get a truck I was going to drive, and she really did say it was because she didn't understand WHY I didn't want a truck that was three times too big for what we have to pack in it. I mean, I have ropes, and I know how to use the tie-downs, but I don't want my load sloshing around in the back because I was driving the wrong truck. And I will inspect it before I drive -- I have handled lawsuits where a load shifted when the driver took a curved on-ramp and the truck fall over go boom.

I don't want that to happen to me.

Neon, I been married for a little over 31 years. I’m here to tell you, we’ve NEVER had an argument over the size of a rental truck. The size of other things, yes, but not a truck.

If you’ve been single all this time on accounta rental trucks, dude…I think it’s safe now.

But it's not the size of the truck; it is how you operate it.

Yeah, but the benefits outweigh the drawbacks, and I say that after 28+ years.

She does have a little Dunning-Kruger, but because she's so smart in so many areas. It never occurs to her that when she has zero expertise or experience in something, and I have a good deal of both, that in that particular case she can actually trust me to make a good decision.

And that's what happened today - with no detailed information, she settled on the wrong size truck, by gum she was gonna rent that truck, and it really didn't matter that I said it was wrong three separate times. I could have told her fifty times that it was the wrong size. She needed me to say a few things like, did you know you can pack a truck up to the roof, you're not restricted to just one layer of things on the floor? Do you remember what happens when professional drivers try to back up a 16' truck on our 130 yard long driveway? (Several have backed off the driveway and into the mud, getting stuck)(I had no trouble with the 12' one, of course.)

You're right, though.

I can never leave my house without an explanation of 1) where I'm going and 2) what I'm planning to do when I get there, and you'd be surprised how consistently she manages to decide that my plan is no damn good and she offers to substitute a new and different plan, following which I normally have to stop and explain in some detail why my plan is correct and her plan is stupid missing a few key considerations.

That gets old, it's true. Every so often I request that she just focus on running her own life and let me make just a few of my own decisions.

But she is so smart in so many areas! When she isn't running my life, she's a pure pleasure. In so many, many ways, she is way more wonderful than annoying. So I just roll with it.

Well, Foggy you have the years and experience with those women-folk. However, me being me, I suggest the next time you see a box of Swiss Rolls on the top of the fridge, you stash them somewhere and feign innocence when she comes-a-asking. That's what I would do cause "Payback!".

That's why I said it was not a request for you to change but to show others how to get the correct post from the "pre-existing" link. While simpler fields in a database could potentially be changed with a script, I don't even know if that would be possible with a BLOB. Even if it were, my mind spins out of control trying to figure out how that could be done without blowing lots of stuff up.
