I note that there is a huge difference between "only has to spend" and "actually spent".

DeSantis’ Israel rescue operation left Americans stranded on Cyprus
A rush to help DeSantis score political points for his presidential campaign caused the confusion, said Bryan Stern, CEO of Project Dynamo.

TALLAHASSEE — Nearly two dozen Americans fleeing Israel with the help of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration were stranded for days in Cyprus before they finally got to Florida on Wednesday, according to the head of an international rescue organization who blamed contractors that state officials hired to run the operation.

Their rush to help DeSantis score political points for his presidential campaign caused the confusion, said Bryan Stern, CEO of Project Dynamo, which partnered with Florida on the missions.

“That is why the state people were in a rush to get a flight loaded and off the ground,” Stern said in a telephone interview with the Orlando Sentinel this week.

A passenger on that flight agreed that the contractors delayed his family’s evacuation.

“We thought we were going to fly out of Cyprus the same day, and then we were informed it would be the next day,” said Stuart Zins, a San Francisco Bay area resident who along with his wife and three daughters was among the 48 who returned to the U.S. on Wednesday.

Instead, “it was 3-4 days later,” he said. :snippity:

DeSantis campaign launches ‘Trump accident tracker’

https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4 ... press.coop
The DeSantis campaign on Tuesday launched a “Trump accident tracker” intended to highlight slip-ups and controversial statements from the former president, escalating the battle between the two 2024 rivals.

“To highlight the liability that Trump is for his own campaign and remind the American people of the liability he would be in the Oval Office, we will now be keeping a daily record of how long Trump can go without causing an accident on the job,” Andrew Romeo, a spokesperson for the campaign of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) campaign, said in a statement.

The effort launched a day after Trump spoke to supporters in New Hampshire, where the DeSantis campaign noted that the former president appeared to confuse the leaders of Turkey and Hungary, referring to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as the “leader of Turkey.”

The accident tracker cited other Trump comments that have drawn confusion or criticism, including when he recently referred to the terrorist group Hezbollah as “very smart” and when he attacked Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) as she welcomed other 2024 primary candidates into the state.

A Trump campaign spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment about the tracker.

Ron DeSantis’s claim he sent military equipment to Israel unravels
Florida governor receives pushback for falsely declaring he worked with Israel’s consul general in Miami to send weapons

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... itary-fake
Ron DeSantis is receiving pushback from Israeli diplomats, Florida Democrats and the White House after he falsely claimed credit for a gun-running operation to assist Israel’s military operations in Gaza.

The Florida governor and 2024 presidential hopeful declared on Thursday that he had worked with Israel’s consul general in Miami to send military equipment, including drones, body armor and helmets.

His office, according to Reuters, said it had worked to “get weapons and ammunition to Israel through private parties” as part of his high-profile “rescue operation”. The operation involved sending humanitarian supplies on chartered planes and returning from Israel hundreds of US citizens who wanted to come home following the Hamas attacks.

His boast, however, started to unravel when Maor Elbaz-Starinsky, Israel’s consul general, told the news agency he had not asked for DeSantis’s help, and that the governor’s involvement was limited to smoothing paperwork requirements for a previously arranged shipment of “rifle parts” ordered by his government.

“I am not aware and would find it very, very bizarre to think that somebody is procuring weapons and sending it to Israel,” he said. “This is not how we work. And certainly not privately funded.”

DeSantis has made hardline support of Israel a prominent part of his flailing campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, pledging to turn away Palestinian refugees if he was in the White House, and expelling pro-Palestinian student groups from Florida’s university campuses.

He has called a special session of the Florida legislature for early next month to approve state sanctions on Iranian businesses and interests.

With other presidential contenders, he will attend a donor gathering of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas this weekend. On Friday, he will deliver a speech on foreign policy at the Heritage Foundation in Washington DC.

Critics accuse him of acting as if he were president, and operating a de facto foreign policy from the governor’s mansion in Tallahassee that is not under his purview.

“President Biden is the commander in chief of our military, not Ron DeSantis,” said Nikki Fried, chair of the Florida Democratic party, in a statement to the Miami Herald.

“As a Navy veteran, Ron should understand the importance of respecting the chain of command. This is a gross breach of norms and a potential violation of federal laws governing the shipment of weapons.”

John Kirby, strategic communications director for the National Security Council, told reporters at the White House on Thursday that he could not be certain DeSantis had “checked all the boxes”.

“It is not illegal for the governor of a state to offer a measure of foreign assistance to another country [but] there are laws and regulations which govern how the export process is handled,” he said.

That is NOT accurate when it comes to ANYTHING that is classified as weapons or munitions or with wctual or probable military use (to include items such as encryption, uniforms, PLCE or webbing equipment, precursor chemicals, even MRE's). You MUST have an EUC, End User Certificate, issued by a competent national authority. Penalties for flouting upto 1million usd and 20 years ...... So go on Ronnie ..... just keep on doing ....

The funny thing is, a lot of people see "Florida Republican Assembly" and think this is some kind of legislature rather than the Florida state affiliate of a national 527 advocacy group. So basically this piece of paper is as technically powahful as if it were served up at a Denny's Grand Slam Jury. I mean, it probably has more social oomph, but no legal authority whatsoever.

If and how DeSantis responds to this will therefore be telling.

Ron was on Meet the Press this morning. He was pointedly asked about a recent op-ed about his stand speaking out on Hamas vs. His silence on Nazi activity in Florida. He blew past it and went on even more on what he's done for the Jewish residents of Florida.

I love the "signatures." Sorry, but NO ONE has signatures that look like that. What, is their own document not good enough for them to use their actual signatures on?

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and NBC's Kristen Welker went at it over Florida's crime rates during an interview Sunday on "Meet the Press" after DeSantis claimed the state's handling of crime has been "strong."

He boasted that crime was at a 50-year low, and the violent crime rate in his state has plummeted 30% under his watch.

ut Welker shot back: "Statistically speaking, the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] says that the firearm mortality rate is actually higher under your administration than it was under your predecessor's administration."

DeSantis' touting of Florida's "50-year low" in crime has been a key aspect of his presidential campaign, even as experts say the governor's statements leave out key data.
An irritated, flustered DeSantis blamed the rise in firearm morality under his administration on the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Excess mortality? Is that what you're saying? Well that went up everywhere in the country," DeSantis said.

Welker pointed out that the CDC stats specifically related to firearm mortality.

I went to their website and visited the "about" page. Most of them look like hicks in their ball caps. Not a professional organization by any stretch.

Yep, all 100% Trumpers.

I tried to give them a donation but their link breaks with a "500" server error.

However, the store link works. They give you a code to get 10%-OFF. It's a 3rd party MAGA store.
