A while. Accounts verified to belong to government officials are noted as such. (Unlike blue check marks, such verification cannot be bought.) Officials may also have unofficial, personal accounts.

The "official account" policy was an issue with TFG. Portions of Twitter had policy concerns about moderating or suspending POTUS' account, even if the president was violating Twitter's TOS.

Twitter yesterday enacted a large-scale ban against anyone promoting or adding visibility to a pro-trans event, "Trans Day of Vengeance." Ostensibly because it was a violent event, i.e., "vengeance" was in the title. But the event was mostly being magnified by anti-trans people, like Greene. As a not so subtle incitement.

I don't think Greene and her ilk's efforts were legally incitement. But Twitter isn't the government; it can make its own rules (mostly). Twitter made the correct call, IMO, but those wanting to spread mischief could easily work around the filters.
